Question about Food

Something that has a raised a little concern for me, though may seem trivial to the rest of you. What exactly is in the food our characters eat because in game years we're all pretty old now, and some of the food we carry around is several weeks/months old, in some odd cases maybe even years. Yet still tastes freshly made with no ill effects. (i know they never programmed it in, think of it as a potentially fun conversation)

Going by the passage of time in the game, at one point I had some stacks of butter that were over 60 years old.

We're in the year 1152 Vanadiel time.
Game's been out 10 years, 1 year of that being JP only.
So if you started at or near NA launch, your character is about 1000 years old.
