Bandaid for ailing PS2's: Cutscene textmode

Many (if not all) PS2s (and sometimes 360s) are experiencing blackouts during some cutscenes.
Would it be possible to add a text-only command or switch, so that cutscenes can be 'watched' without PS2s going up in flames? This wouldn't interrupt the flow of the cutscene, so any quest triggers still activate, but it would allow PS2 users to continue a quest or mission without waiting for weeks, months or even years until the problem is solved, or give away their login data to others so they can advance the quest on a PC.
