Sound effects, but no music

I recently came back to the game. Bought and downloaded it through Steam. I've run into a peculiar sound issue, though:

While I'm hearing all the sound effects just fine, there is no background music. I have the music turned on in both the config utility and in the in-game config menu, and yet the game plays as if I had the music muted. Furthermore, the intro cinematic is not playing on game start-up, either, in spite of the fact that I have it set to play in the config utility.

Any help with this problem would be very much appreciated! I've been finding that having no music takes away from the experience, especially during cutscenes and whatnot.
