Possibly returning.

I'm an old player who is considering coming back for fun. I played FFXI from it's NA release on PC up until March of 2004. I have not touched the game since then. When I left I was a pretty solid 75 DRG on Lakshmi in the guild Fallen Angels.

Anyway, I just activated the 14 day free trial and I'm leveling up, attempting to get a feel for what the game is like now. I have been using the Field Manuals to my advantage (the regular solo ones).

I've completely forgotten most all FFXI terminology, and certainly don't know any new terms / areas / etc.. Other things I'd like to know are where & how to level up efficiently without having to take a huge chunk of my time. I wasn't fond of that back when. I have been reading up on some FFXI websites, but a lot of the information I'm finding is written to an audience who already knows the content of the info. I feel like I'm really behind the 8-ball here simply by perusing those sites.

If anyone could be kind enough to help me get started speedily on the right foot, I'd greatly appreciate it!

The majority of leveling is done in alliances with grounds tomes via grounds of valor:

Generally you'll find the first leveling spot (at least on Ragnarok) to be in Gusgen mines, page 1, right at the entrance. After that at around 34?(someone correct me if I'm wrong) we head to crawlers nest.

You'll level up fairly quickly this way, but please don't forget to take the time out to keep your skills up to date so when you get to abyssea at 75~ you'll actually be useful!

Try to find a group of people to hang out with to show you the ropes of things. If you're not dead set on your current server you're welcome to mine (Ragnarok) and my shell.
