[dev1003] Abyssea Adjustment - BST gets to Trigger

along with the short list that is being adjusted with Abyssea I would love to see BST actually being able to do something to trigger a weakness in a NM.

We have pets fire off elemental based moves along with pets that use various types of moves that can trigger blunt, slash etc..

We can solo majority of the NM in Abyssea, but can't trigger things as easily as most jobs.

If we could solo then we should be able to do something creative to allow us to trigger a mobs weakness :)

would be nice.

After coming back to FFXI from a long break, I figured I'd try out and give the new Abyssea areas a chance.

Went out there with my LS for the first time, only to stand there in AF2 with my sheep out twiddling my thumbs while everyone else worked at killing the NM's. Every time I tried to sic my cute wittle sheepy on it, I was instantly bombarded with, "DONT TOUCH IT OH MAI GAH. LET THE TANKS AND BLMS DO IT." I was a useless lump for 2 hours. D:!

While the stagger system could use some spells added to it I think this would be completely wrong. The situation your describing bobeflo is a problem with your ls not the system. After yellow and red is triggered in my ls, which is usually in the first 1-2 minutes even before we got discernment, all DDs have free range on the mob. Especially pet jobs who are free to melee without getting the main character hit by AoEs.

Yellow is for magic, AKA mages. However I would not be apposed to square adding a "Pet time" to blue staggers and making it so that during that period weaponskills from bst, smn, drg, and pup are what staggers them.(Obviously it will only be a handful of weaponskills that are learned close to 75. Which means jug pets close to 75.) Although Dragoon might be to much of a random effect to have them on the list. However they are the only ones that can do all of blue for lance unlike the other jobs who either cannot do all of blue in their specialty or simply other more popular jobs can do their specialty blue.

All I am saying is leave yellow for the mages. And tell your ls they need to chill out after you stagger I can't imagine WHY they wouldn't want you to help them kill it faster. Just go farm time like our ls DDs do while yellow being triggered.

the cool thing about our pets is they use elemental based attacks and physical based attacks.

We have pets with Wind Traits, Water Traits, and then Physical as in Blunt, Slash, Pierce etc

while I would like to see the pets more useful for something like that (not just BST, but all pet jobs)... it would create a bit of a problem if it's part of the normal red/yellow triggers. It's hard enough getting things organized sometimes as is--some mobs just get beat down too fast if one person is having to build TP to do a lot of WS (even with regain atmas it still takes a bit of time to build the TP). So, we get all kinds of jobs together to spread out the list so typically no one needs to do but 2 or 3 for the trigger so we can knock most of them out right away while everyone has TP at start. If we had to do the same with pets...then we would HAVE to make sure we had a DRG, a BST, a SMN, and a PUP for every run. That could prove problematic at times.

I could go for something like a new stagger that is pets only that increases seal/card/coin/stone/jewel drops directly or something.

My question is why did they have you come and not assign you a WS to do. BST can use more than just an Axe after all...

I agree 100%. a stagger change is really needed. kinda funny that some of these shouts ask for a certain job to fight a mob that drops nothing for them. every job should be able to do at least have 3 stagger abilities

The way I would have expected them to design the system is that:
1) The NM that drops seals and items for +2 gear should be killable by a group of the jobs that use them.
2) The abilities, spells, weaponskills, etc. that stagger a NM should be from those jobs that require the drops. So like if an NM drops dancer seals, the dancer step or flourish abilities should have a chance of trigger a stagger of some kind. Not this limit to weapon skills and spells.

But alas, that's not how they did it. And I'm not sure why. Anyone have any ideas?

Maybe because it was too much programming or complication? I actually don't mean that to sound sarcastic, it may be SE's reasoning, or they just didn't know how much the trigger jobs would take off. Although it would be nice if each job had a trigger, alliance only hold 18 people and there are 20 jobs. Since most of us prefer to fight NMs with 4 or 5 people if there were endless triggers it would make triggering so much more difficult. I would think if anything they cut back on job specific triggers, say take away AMs and ga3 spells so scholar, red mage and black mage would be interchangeable. Stuff like that would be better than adding more triggers.

I am not overly familiar with bst but I am sure there are some weapon skills beastmasters can cover if skills are capped. Unfortunately alliance killing is mostly people standing around. Maybe you would have more enjoyment low manning with friends than being part of a large shell? I believe beastmasters have excellent tanking pets these days. It would seem a bst would be able to hold a NM in a small group while others go from the trigger. There are a lot of opportunities in abyssea for different setups, don't be bound by a large linkshell.
