Most of the "Rune" weapons have a large job user pool(mages could use things like handle and whatnot). These types of weapons also had a -3mp drain, which increased particular stats as long as mp was available.
What I'd like to see is a serious of gear to include, all body sets. With extra stats. I'd like a "golden, paladin-like" set of runic gear that mages could use. Perhaps some of those funky color style from aerns?
