Choose wisely from the new payment options

I know this could be put into the other thread regarding the new payment options but that seems to have degraded into the normal sniping among the regulars.

Make sure you check out all the payment options before selecting the one you will use. Especially if you are not from the US / not paying in US$ (I'm in Canada).

I just did the transfer yesterday (lol at my timing) and have chosen to purchase Crysta. The options are still Click and Buy or Ultimate Pay. If you select Ultimate Pay, you can see the new payment options, including direct use of a credit card instead of indirect through Pay Pal.

Selecting to pay by credit card directly costs $20.67 CAD for 2000 Crysta. Going through Pay Pal (and also using a credit card) costs $19.69 CAD. Same currency. Same card.

Make sure you look at all the options!

Note that the price changes throughout the day as FX rates fluctuate. The above prices were when I checked this morning. I just checked now and the prices are slightly higher. Guess the CAD dropped a bit through the day.

Current exchange still has us in Canada above the USD today, I just checked.

From what I've seen, it depends on who does the currency exchange that matters. If the exchange is done through your credit card company (direct payment) or PayPal, its not too bad. However, letting UltimatePay do the exchange (ex: buying Crysta from the prompt on the SEAM) makes you pay over.

I'm pretty sure the exchange rate is still factored in. I bought 2000 crysta last time, and paid 18.84 (with the tax) for it.

This is usually due to the conversion rate that each payment process is charging for that conversation rate. PayPal charges 2.5% in additional to the actual conversion rate provided by their bank and that's where the difference is. What numbers they are using for the converison and how much they are charging additional to convert those funds.

I think the warning was about using your card directly on UP while letting them do the conversion instead of your bank or PayPal where they seem to charge more.

And yes Malacite, I am aware that UP takes the exchange rate into account but like other companies, they don't always do update within the day or realtime like a bank may. Plus, they may have their own fee that could be higher than using PayPal for the conversion.

Just to clarify, the numbers I used in my first post were the amounts that would have been charged to my credit card. Both were charging in Canadian dollars - there was no other exchange rates or charges to factor in. Pay pal was cheaper by almost $1. That's a pretty big difference on a $20 purchase.

The smaller the increment you purchase in, the less the fee is. in USD, there is no (transaction) fee for the $5 and $10 levels. International payments (since you're using $CDN to pay $USD) are subject to exchange rates, this is nothing new.

We getting new options be mid fall you can always change payment methods.
