I hope all you guys Lying in some meaningless forum makes you feel good inside.
Not just a JP issue!
Ok after reading post after post I see alot of sides here. The one that gets me is how almost everyone mentions Japan and SE, but only mentions California when they talk about servers. Has anyone taken the time to wonder or even ask.. IF SE is shut down in Japan, what about the other SE sites? I mean how many people in SE's Cali. office are currently out of a job? Seriously think about it. There is currently no need for GMs, SGMs, Acct. Reps etc etc. Maybe we should offer our support and prayers to these individuals as well, whereas most people in NA at the moment live paycheck to paycheck.
Just another post to put things in perspective. This disaster is NOT limited to Japan.
So on behalf of myself I offer my condolences and prayers not only to our Japanese friends, but also to our SE California workers.
I have read replies saying things awful to Japan for FF shutting down. How selfish are you guys? People > Game. Japan, I wish you the best in everything. I hope you all will get better. I am sorry this had happened to you all. ; ; I don't know if this will help but, /hugs /comforts. Please, be well. And you all are in my Prayers. Your lives are more important than some game, so please, take your time with reality.
Nothing, but last I knew he was in Tokyo (I think. I hadn't talked to him in a while, but I'd see him on Xbox live, so...)
I am just hoping no news is good news.

I think its a terrible situation over there in Japan right now SE and our thoughts and prayers are with you, your families, and everyone who is living through such the extreme devastation. I would LOVE to see April's fee's, which you have already agreed to not collect, still be an optional charge where 100% of the funds collected for April would go to rebuild or help the people in Northern Japan and others whose homes, livelihood, and families were affected the most. I would gladly help out where I could :) If this is an option for us, please consider it SE! Could be a great way to allow the members of the vast gaming community a chance to help!!
So just reading in general or novels? Btw kraatos this is the same Lithera you know on the doomed to merge server of Alexander. :p also she just said a book, that dun mean novels only ya know. Again I hope that everyone in Japan is alright and that they get the power situation underhand as soon as possible, not just so I can go back to playing the game but so that all of the people effected by this disaster. IE companies outside of japan that rely on things from companies that are based in japan. Like the Japanese car companies other offices for other gaming companies, ect. can go back to work.
Lol not if I trip you with my staff 1st
My compassion goes out to all the people affected by the quake and tsunami of Japan. This is the worse consecutive natural disaster I've seen. I'm worried about friends that I've lost communication with in Japan throughout the years and praying for their health and survival of their families and loved ones.
I'm hope the best for Japan. The images and videos on the news are absolutely heart breaking.
I am not upset they decided to take the servers off line. I fully support the decision and commend them for doing so. Operation Yashima sounds like the whole country is pulling together.
If they need to be offline for a week or for several weeks, it will be okay. I wouldn't even be upset if they kept charging for the three accounts we have because it's not very much money and I was expecting to pay it anyway. I don't think that it will be harsh on me or any other player.
Shame on those of you who have stated they are angry about this.
I've been left without words to describe everything I've seen, heard and read about the current disaster in Japan.
Anyone here as a heartless human being to express anger, I'll even almost give you one benefit of doubt-- it's true that some escapism can be good in times of stress. When lives are still very much on the line, however, even that "excuse" is wholly selfish and disgraceful.
Personally, I would have understood if the servers were going down even for grievance purposes (and was surprised this didn't happen). Because this is out of direct appeal from the Japanese PM and Government on the whole to conserve energy in the wake of the catastrophe, I would hope all players would be understanding. The adjectives I'd most like to use when referring to players expressing anger are certainly a breach of forum rules, lol.
Like many others, I hope that some kind of donation feature can be included either directly, as a directory of charities that Square-Enix support, optional April billing-as-donation, or some in-game item for "purchase" to express solidarity. This could start off the official homepage even before the servers are turned back on, and hopefully it'll be available soon.
Ooh, how about something like a charity walk/run where people offer pledges and the entire player community could participate through some sort of in-game event of quests, monster defeating, etc.? Something like "$1 donation sponsored by _____ per Dominion Op completed". That could be done with some degree of creativity.
The fact that the worst since the disaster may not even be over could put the servers out even longer than what they are planning. If they lose their reactors, what backup do they have? They should consider moving the servers to china or somewhere nearby if power would be lost for a long time.
I do wish Japan a speedy recovery. I'm with everyone here. Stay safe out there.
I love when trolls expect not to get trolled for their trolling behavior.
Wow, he put the brakes on so hard I can see smoke! Also, Nietzsche would be ashamed, both at your failure to grasp nihilism and for backpedaling and claiming some kind of 'social experiment'. Pretty sure nobody sent you "DIE MF'er" death threats...but I am sure that a forum full of people called you an a-hole...and, rightfully so.
So...no.
I will put this game over human life everytime.........if the human means absolutely nothing too me......I have friends over in Japan atm but what truly can I do........nothing.....so instead I would love to be playing FFXI, they are a business they should have of thought of contingency plan to not have the servers be dropped.
What truly can you do?
Ride a bike.
ok I am a sony fan... but that has nothing to do with this post... WTF!?!?! did you just deny sympathy to the dead, injured, or affected, simply cause you a have a petty grudge against a company!? you may have been trying to be cute but its not funny. thats like saying "i dont care that your family died in a freak car accident, cause your a Lawyer and i hate Lawyers..."
wait no i dont im not a dick like you... my bad
THIS IS A GAME!! There is positively NOTHING you can say to prove that shunting down the servers was wrong, cause it wasn't. case closed.
About being prepared for this kind of disaster... ARE YOU STUPID!?!?
point 1: Not cost effective to put redundant game servers in multiple countries for an international game. maintenance is easier if the servers are in the same place.
point 2: NO ONE goes over board to make sure a GAME (sorry if you have no REAL life) will still be running in case of disaster.
one more thing to point out is that the power plant aren't only no giving out power. there liable to EXPLODE and give off radiation fall out
