Any plans for new mounted methods of transportation beyond Chocobos?

I think as technology continues evolve and allow Game Developers new tools and methods to design for games like FFXI, things that were not possible years ago could see new opportunities for implementation. It was probably one of the most overlooked details packaged with the WotG expansion, but I was more than impressed with the expanded facial expressions on key NPC's throughout the story line. I kept wondering if the Devs were going to update our legacy playable characters with similar upgrades, cause it would be awesome to see those expressions throughout the player base.

Perhaps if it was coded similar to that of a mini game like fishing, chocobo digging, or chocobo racing vs our everyday battle system, fighting while on mounts could be easily designed and shipped with our next couple of major expansions.

Has nothing to do with technology, has everything to do with coding.

Oh I know in terms of the possible fighting system itself, yeah, but I was referring to the trend of how storage requirements and methods change nearly every 2yrs allowing for more space to design (code) with.

That has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that they can't change the proprietary engine and source code that FFXI is running on. Technology getting better is completely independent of the Devs' ability to "upgrade" FFXI. If I were to hazard a guess, I'd say our new storage abilities have a lot more to do with server merges and reallocation of resources than any upgrade in technology.

They aren't going to be able to code anything that isn't within the bounds of the original, 10 year old code and engine base.

Dont think anything coding wise was changed, they just added something new that can hold up to 80 spaces.

Exactly. I just mean we likely have the extra space on the server (80 items for 500,000+ accounts = a decent chunk of memory) because of the reallocation of server resources that the server merges provided. The Playonline Registration server has been running significantly better since the first server merge as well, if anyone remembers just how horrific it used to be trying to connect on Update days.
