Yeah but like every other game, GMs "could" tell you it's your own fault for trusting the person you handed over those materials to. That's why I question what to do in this case.

So you don't want more gearing options for everyone? Weird. You don't want to support your local crafters? Sad. You don't want less people running around in subpar gear? Mindboggling.
