Seriously people need something better to do with their lives. My personal opinion, the game is finished. When and if they get the servers up, which by the way it looks won't be for a long time, the player base will have dwindled exponentially.
Think maybe it's time to hang up my weapons in FFXI and go for FFXIV, maybe they can make that a better game. Not really interested in forking over more money to a company that doesn't care about it's customers enough to make sure the games stay running though.
By the way, I extremely enjoyed the 3 hour ban I recieved last night, it was an exhilirating experience to be told by the secret word police of SE that I cannot freely share my opinions on these forums, so this will be my last post. (in before yall flame me and say good riddance). If we can't share our opinions freely w/o the threat of banning then there is no use posting here. So everyone, have fun dealing with SE's "oh we may be up on TUE, nope, wait, next TUE.... oh crap sorry next month!".
It's been fun but it hasn't been real fun.
I don't think the game is done for..
even if say.. half the population quit the game (i find this unlikely)
they could still merge servers and continue to make money off monthly subscriptions....
its not like it takes an investment of money other than paying the monthly power bill lol
As long as its making money after paying for monthly operating costs.. it doesn't make any sense to shut the game down
SE must be touched that so many people here care deeply strictly for the sake of their profit margins, and are not wanting the game back online because they can't handle cold-turkey.
Also, why is there another thread where people are demanding updates (even though they said it'll still be a few more days to know more) and then once they get an update saying they will have to re-evaluate in a few more days, they are mad that they got the update.
Also lol at the people who are pulling numbers out of the air about how many people are quitting for life because the game is off for 3 days. This has NEVER happened before anywhere. It is impossible for any of you to know how many people might be quitting for good or not. Making up numbers is the quickest way to let everyone here know that you're just making up facts to try to bolster a losing argument.
Japan needs time to get their power systems back up and running. It has nothing to do with the nuclear problems at that one station. It has to do with the 50 other plants and making sure that they are still safe and also that the lines are repaired enough to transfer the power to the rest of the country.
For anyone that wants to leave because of this incident, just shut up and go. We would be much happier without you in the game when the game is back up.
I am on here cuz the game is down. yep. I am wanting the game back on. yep. SE most likely is happy we want the game back but I bet they are starting to wonder if they have unleashed The Crazies. lol and no doubt I am one but at least I do still have enough control to be waiting not whining. Crying maybe but hopefully not whining. ^^ And posting yes. It keeps my fingers up and nimble enough to play whm albeit maybe not all that well.
At this rate, the date the servers come back up and the next update will be one and the same. lol
Yes, it's perfectly natural to demand updates. Even if they update states they have no new news, is still better than no news at all. I'm not upset that they released an update saying wait two more days. I'm upset that they're most likely going to pull this crap, wait two more days, wait three more days, wait another week, rather than tell us they can't see the servers coming up in the foreseeable future.
If they have uninterrupted power (which they kind of hinted towards while they were considering taking down the servers) and they're keeping the servers down till the whole of Japan is stabilized with power, let us know that. If they do not have uninterrupted power and are keeping the servers down to prevent possible damage from a failed switchover to backup power, let us know. As I said before, some news is better than no news at all.
This issue has been debated over and over in lots of threads...currently, it's been going on in these threads:
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/th...-an-Earthquake
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/th...n-Update-Delay
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/th...-Tues-22nd-JST
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/th...-the-situation.
...and that's just off of page one. Go on to page two, and you see a couple more still available:

http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/th...Backup-servers
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/th...ne-in-2-months
There's one formal request for a more detailed update looked like it would maintain it's civility and purpose, as it's structured more in a petition format, but some just couldn't resist the urge to hi-jack that one too:
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/th...to-Square-Enix
Hopefully it will get back under control again. Just state whether you agree/disagree in that thread please. Don't need any arguments--just simple /signed will suffice, or even just a /no or |Thanks for the offer, but I have to pass.|

anyone know exactly where the servers r located in Japan? saw someone saying Tokyo was hit, i was under the impression Tokoyo was hit with minor aftersshocks coz i saw some videos of a tower swaying Tokoyo didnt look bad at all. if anyone might be able to answer my question that would be apperciated
Raist = Charitou? Or just a 3rd cousin?
From what I've heard Tokyo really only has rolling blackouts to deal with at this point. Not much in the way of structural damage.
yes avina i know and understand that. but people still work and have lives and have jobs to go to. im not saying get the servers up now, just wondering where they are located. not that hard of a question to answer, but thanks for posting for no reason with any form of answer. i can understand if they want to shut the servers down b//c of blackouts or they want the power diverted else where. thats obvious. my whole thing is people still have to work. even SE is still working. if u dont think that ur crazy.
Read a newspaper. Or just google the situation over there at the NY times. Or maybe that doesn't fit into your schedule of sitting here and writing your hate that your video game is down.
And for the record if there is any MMO I am concerned for in this, its XIV. XI has been going for nearly nine years, and has been on a bit of a resurgence in the past year with all of the new awesome content, meanwhile XIV doesn't have enough of a game there at the moment to even charge people and has a perpetually dwindling population... if any of the MMOs were to die from this its XIV hands down.
Oh and goodbye lol. All I can say is though, call your trolling opinions and whatnot but its trolling nonetheless and I'm glad SE is cleaning up.
after doing some research i found out their main office is located at:
SQUARE ENIX CO., LTD.
Shinjuku Bunka Quint Bldg. 3-22-7 Yoyogi,
Shibuya-ku,Tokyo 151-0053, Japan
don't know if the servers are there or not.
Jeez dude, calm down, I was trying to address what I thought you were getting at with the rest of your post, given that you didn't only type "Where are the servers located." But whatever, my bad, I guess? Calm down a little and don't be so edgy.
I think the servers are located in Tokyo, or at least, I've never heard about them being somewhere else.
All I see is you telling everyone you can that resistance is futile. How many times do we have to say it? Those of us that aren't happy with Sqeenixs' approach are sympathetic to the seriousness of the situation the Japanese people face at this time. But that has 0... absolutely 0... to do with a business handling their business.
im very calm, we not in abyssea, or dyna or doing a NM to not be calm. thanks spamtastic.
I thought you were leaving?
Something that you are failing to realize is that this isn't just a business, its a Japanese business, which is very significant to this situation. Unlike in America, where we are extremely cut throat and have no problem screwing over the little guy, the Japanese as a whole view each and every one of them as having a social responsibility to one another. You don't put yourself on others, you don't prioritize yourself over others, and it would be a terrible PR move on SE's part to go and run their servers anyways when there isn't enough electricity available to effectively treat the sick, of which there are lots.
But even if we cut that out, and just say, how feasible is it from a purely business perspective, I already made a rather lengthy post on page 9 that lists a lot of things that SE would have to overcome in order to move their operation, which you seem to have just kinda breezed by and not addressed at all and prefer to just make the same broken argument.
You folks really need to stop White Knighting.
A week's grace period is fine, but after that it becomes Square Enix dropping the ball and not having a proper disaster recovery plan to maintain uptime and that is unprofessional.
No Avina it is you with the same broken arguement/fanboy approach. They are doing nothing in the way of rectifying this situation to a satisfactory level for a number of us. And no matter how many "down on bended knee" post by people like you are made.. people like me will not agree and do not care. Period.
its really only gonna be an extra day to reevaluate on the 22nd because they are going by JST which is a day ahead it is the 19th there already.
wait... did I miss an announcement from SE where they detailed just what they are doing to rectify the situation? What is it that they said they are doing that is unsatisfactory?
To say they aren't doing anything satisfactory implies you know what they are doing. Pray tell... where is this juicy nugget of information?

lol so nothing about the post I made on page 9? Right... I'm the one with the broken argument. btw what happened to the hot chicks you were going to go and visit?
And like I said before, I don't really care about convincing you. You said you were going, goodbye. I'm posting so people don't actually buy all the stuff you are saying. The only thing you have said in this topic so far is "they should be doing it better" without any sort of logical consideration for the situation in Japan and the difficulty for moving the servers. If you have an actual point to make then feel free.
Are we going to get reimbursed for the time that the servers are down? I think it's only fair.
If you had paid attention, you would already know that you've gotten 4 weeks free already.
That's not really true now is it? They said we wont get charged for april.. BUT what if after the 22nd they still dont get the game back up and it doesnt go up untill the middle of april? Then what? we get a whole 1-2 weeks free? Honestly i dont care its only $13 but i do know people are going to complain.
Well its could be like FFXIV Rocman lol it could be sooooo bad that they just make you not pay for it till things get better XDDD btw its been free since september of last year <3
