I corrected myself later and stated that it was a weapon used by calvary, not against them.
It is also far more sword like in terms of blade, not spearheads.

What about Barrett's arm canon? Go /NIN for dual wield but it makes you unable to use items or open doors or chests lol.
how about some 950,000 volt blast knuckles?

Swordchucks, yo.
Unfortunately due to the fact that it would take approximately the same amount of manpower to create these new weapon classes as it would to create a full expansion pack, the development team determined it is pretty difficult to do this. Apologies :(
Let's see... 12 new weapons skills... Something like 10 animations per race plus 3-4 more for WS purposes... and then an idle pose... then designing about 15 different base weapon designs with 40 different color variations and other tweaks... Not to mention coming up with stats for about 150-300 items per category... and then gear that adds +xx skill to the weapon... Not to mention testing time, and effort to create graphic animations for each weapon skill... Oh and then the little icons for the equipment menu...
Yeah. I could see that.
When was the last time they actually added new weapons anyway? Rise of the Zilart? And I'm sure that Katana and Great Katana were already partway through the design process anyway.
Even without adding new "weapon types", some of those would still be possible without much extra work, making use of existing weapon types:
Whips can be added as a "Ranged weapon" and would not need a "new" animation (at most, maybe some special particle effects for elemental whips or something.) They could appear coiled in the hand like Chakrams, and have an invisible strike.
Whips would clearly be equippable by Bst, Smn, Dnc
Dual-Glaives (Manes, Double Swords/Spears, Double Voulges, Swallows, "Thief Swords", Bisento, Zanbato, Guisearme) could all be a new variation on Polearm, even sharing the same weaponskills.
The heavy spear-like versions would mainly be for Dragoon and the dual-broadsword versions would fit Samurai, but the light Swallow blades (Thief Swords) would be for Thieves, like Zidane. (this would mean adding Polearm skill to Thief, but only given access to Swallows)
Don't give up on new weapon types entirely, please!
