As another Summoner enthusiast, I'd like to add a few of my own solo experiences. Some of the Abyssea NM's I've tackled have already been mentioned - And handled in much the same manner! - so I'll stick with ones not yet brought up. If I can think of others later, I'll be sure to add them here.
Hm'Zdei - Abyssea Vunkerl (Tier II VNM)
Avatar: Ifrit, for ice resistance
BPs of Note: Meteor Strike and Inferno Howl
Atmas: Ducal Guard, Mounted Champion, Minikin Monstrosity
Notes: A very easy solo, for those who need to get to the Tier III VNM. No need to re-summon or even use a curative. The pull can be a little tricky, however, as this NM likes to hide near Lord Varney and the hoard of sound aggro bats.
Ketea - Abyssea Vunkerl (Tier III VNM)
Avatar: Shiva, for ice resistance
BPs of note: Rush
Atmas: Ducal Guard, Mounted Champion, Voracious Violet
Notes: Ketea absorbs magic unless his mouth is open, so I shied away from Ifrit (As far as I remember, Meteor Crush has a slight magical element to it, and I wasn't willing to risk my Tier III VNM pop to find out it would be absorbed). Shiva and Ketea were pretty much even for most of the fight, as far as HP percentage goes. I used one dawn mulsum at around the 50% mark, and finished the fight with no problems and no re-summons. Overall, the fight took about 15 minutes.
Smok - Abyssea Attohwa
Avatar: Leviathan, for fire resistance
BPs of note: Grand Fall and Spring Water
Atmas: Ducal Guard, Mounted Champion, Minikin Monstrosity
Notes: This fight took a long time solo, and Smok was well into his full rage time when he died. Once he is raging, his Tebbad Wing can get very nasty. Make sure to time your blood pact commands in between Smok's TP moves so that you don't get caught in Tebbad Wing's AoE radius.
Titlacauan - Abyssea Attohwa
Avatar: Ifrit, for both fire and ice resistance
BPs of Note: Meteor strike and Inferno Howl
Atmas: Ducal Guard, Mounted Champion, Minikin Monstrosity
Notes: With Ifrit easily eating most of this NM's spells and abilities with his elemental resistances, there are only 3 things to worry about with this NM - Silence, Death, and Comet. Echo drops deal with Silence, leaving only those last two. Keep Blink, Stoneskin, and Aquaveil up at all times in case you need to re-summon! There is just enough room to kite this NM East to West without drawing aggro from the Hounds to the North or the Skeletons to the South. This would also be much easier as a duo, since only Comet would then become an issue.

Thanks so much for adding this, especially on those NMs I have not yet fought, this is really helpful!! Keep it coming if you have more. I was wondering with Smok perhaps use Noxious Fang for more water damage up to 3k or so? Since you used full tanking atma. If you have the magian trial water staffs and tons of mp temp items, you could use Noxious, Razed Ruin and Ducal Guard OR swap Razed Ruin for Atma of the Stronghold (regen, defense, attack).
-
You are very welcome!
At the time I killed Smok, I was lacking the -perp Magian Trail staff, so I needed Minikin to keep my mp up (I am now only missing fire, earth, light, and dark -perp staves). Noxious Fang would make a nice third atma to round out my Leviathan tanking set, now, though. Some of my elemental magic+ atmas are still lacking, so I think it's time I worked on those...
When solo, I've always tended to err on the side of caution - hence I often pair Ducal Guard and Mounted Champion. A taru's HP pool doesn't leave me with much margin for error! I've only just recently learned about Dawn Mulsum (How did I not know about these awesome things?!), but now that I do, I'll start dropping Mounted Champion in favor of more offense. And speaking of full offense, I've just remembered this fellow:
Es'euvhi - Abyssea Attohwa (Tier II VNM)
Avatar: Garuda, for wind and earth resistance
BPs of Note: Predator Claws and Whispering Wind
Atmas: Voracious Violet, Razed Ruins, Gnarled Horn
Notes: Pure offense! The above atma set is my preferred when going for pure Predator Claws - which takes very satisfying 4,000 to 5,000 pt chunks out of this guy's hp. Garuda resists all of his spells, so use Whispering Wind liberally as needed, and you won't even need to re-summon. This NM sometimes opens with Break when you spawn him, so I'd recommend subbing Whitemage for Barpetra, just in case. He also sometimes spawns in antlion territory - between Confluxes 2 & 4 - so make sure to keep sneak up when you find yourself over there.
As a further note on the subject of VNMs - the Tier 1 guys in Abyssea Konschtat tend to fall over dead when I introduce them to Predator Claws, so they make a very nice target to upgrade to the Tier II VNM pop item.
-
You can swap Mounted Champion with Atma of the Stronghold, it gives regen, defense, and attack bonus. So in essence a very good one to pair with Razed Ruin and Ducal Guard for attack, or good for defense overall. I agree that Minikin is a must have unless you have those avatar staves. Do keep more post if you have other NMs you fought as SMN, its great to see how others do it with their strategy and experience, wish the community here is more sharing lol. Pet based jobs is quite fun as much as they are mostly the bastard child of SE development team....

Mx,grah - Abyssea Misareux (Tier II VNM)
Avatar: Garuda
BPs of note:Predator Claw, Whispering Wind
Atmas: Ducal Guard, Minikin Monstrosity, Voracious Violet.
Note: Very easy, go pure offense, pop during blunt time if you want to get a chance for Apollo flute to drop.
Tristitia - Abyssea Misareux (Tier III VNM)
Avatar: Ramuh or Titan, for thunder resistance
BPs of note: Chaotic Strike, Mountain Buster, Earthen Ward
Atmas: Ducal Guard, Mounted Champion or Stronghold, Voracious Violet. Can use Minikin instead of MC if you low on MP.
Notes: Rather easy to duo with Titan and Ramuh. Just make sure to stay away when it is casting its AOE spells. Nothing to worry at all, easy to proc with a black mage in party. Drop plus 2 for summoner empyrean legs.
-
Ah! I had wondered how easy Tristitia would be. Nice to know Ramuh or Titan can handle him well.
I'll have to see if I have Atma of the Stronghold in my collection. Sometimes it's hard to keep up with every random atma that comes my way, and I'm afraid I've missed noting one or two of the actually handy ones.
We've been doing a lot of Dragua lately for our Monk's Verethragna. I'm tempted to see what Garuda can do to him, but it's likely to take longer to kill him than would be worth while. Still, sometimes you just have to find out what you can do... He should come back around in our rotation in a week or two. I'll let you know how it goes.

Another NM I fought some time ago:
Bakka - Abyssea Konschtat
Avatar: Shiva, for ice resistance
BPs of Note: Heavenly Strike.
Atmas: Ducal Guard, Mounted Champion, Minikin Monstrosity
Notes: Shiva laughs at this NM's ice spells, and his weak melee hits are barely noticeable. The only tricky part of this is getting a clean pull. Targeting an imp in the middle of a bunch of other imps is... tricky. Once you can give the Assault command, you can move back to the safety of Conflux 8 and give the Hold command to pull your avatar (and the NM) to you. After that, this NM is a pushover.
This solo was very early in my Abyssea NM solo career, so my gear and atma set was lacking. If I were to go back now, I would likely swap out both Minikin and Mounted Champion for Beyond and Baying Moon.
For anyone lacking the mighty nice Atma of the Ultimate, Baying Moon offers a reasonable +30 Magic Attack (as well as +30 Physical Attack).

Tunga - Abyssea Attowha
Avatar: Garuda
BPs of note:Predator Claw, Whispering Wind, Wind Blade
Atmas: Ducal Guard, Minikin Monstrosity, Razed Ruin, or Atma of the Gales.
Note: Tunga can be a bit tricky to solo due to its hate reset and breakga chain spell. Garuda as usual resist all its stone spells and more often than not its breakage and Predator Claw does a nice 5k damage with Razed Ruin and max summon magic. You must pay attention to its hate reset and poison effect to your avatar, make sure healing salve and clear salve is in your inventory plus mp/hp recovery temp items in case of emergency. Other than that this NM is quite easy. The other two NMs for the zone boss KI pop set is best to duo war + whm for red proc.
-
Dragua is not push over, you could duo it with two Garuda's, have one set up as Wind Blade with Atma of the Gales, and the other physical BP with Razed Ruin. Do take caution of its wing AOE moves, it is super deadly for taru summoner. You want to buffs before going in for Bps or you may get caught in it and die. 2 Smns and Blm for proc should be fine, or have a thief if you want 2 scales. Fights could go longer with Smns duo. Empy weapon melee DD and Whm probably can do a faster work out :)

Carabosse - Abyssea LaTheine
Avatar: Garuda
BPs of note:Predator Claw, Whispering Wind
Atmas: Ducal Guard, Minikin Monstrosity, Razed Ruin, or Stronghold
Note: I duo-ed this battle with beast master using Dipper Yully, make sure as Summoner you sub scholar, use dark arts and dispel all Carabosse's buffs. Pretty much easy battle, predator claw often, have the beast to sub white mage to help with status removal. Cara will benediction and cure itself but it should not pose too much of a threat. Duo took 15 mnts or so. I would imagine it would take too long for it to be useful when you solo. Trio would be much faster kill, if you are doing empyrean, would be best to gather 1-2 other people. Watch out for her various mode, and keep your distance, she can spam Breakga and will petrify you. If you are duo-ing as summoner, Garuda + Fenrir is good combo, mainly you want to use Fenrir dispelga BP.
