Port Jeuno congestion...

The /yell feature should be linked to the Port areas of Jeuno and the 3 cities. Remove the /yell being linked to the rest of Jeuno. Personally I hate the /yell feature but it isn't leaving so I can just give my suggestion. Also add Magian Moogles to the 3 cities in the Port areas. This way we have Abyssea, /yell and Magian Moogles in the Port zones and people can return to their home nations and not miss /yells. We do not need /yells in every single zone. There is no reason to have that. If people are that lazy they cannot go to one single area in the home nations that is really sad on their part.

Also why not have a main bazaar hub similar to the Auction House. Same categories as the auction house but when you look for items you will see the name of the item, person selling and the price. Then give an option to buy. Maybe have it automatically go to the Delivery Box or something. There has to be some way to make it that people can check bazaars from any location regardless of where the seller is.

This is one major lag issue and putting a tax on a bazaar does not help anything. Why not remove the tax from the auction house. Most people that bazaar auction house-able items bazaar them because they want to save the auction house tax in order to make more profit.

Having Whitegate be "the place to be" is far more ideal. SE shouldn't be afraid of too many people moving back there.

The reason is simple: In port jeuno, you're packing 300+ people into a fishbowl. In whitegate, you'd be packing the same number of people into a much larger space. Though certain spots such as around the moghouse would still be congested, the rest of people would be a little more spread out.

I can't understand why anyone would "hate" the yell channel. It removes the absolute need for players to all gather in one small space to communicate and group up, and it has a reasonable cooldown to prevent abuse. Since it isn't good for normal conversation, it doesn't get used for anything other than what it should be: forming groups and trade.
Regardless, just because *you* don't like it is no reason for it to be removed. You have the power to turn it off if you don't want to use it. Your suggestion removes the whole point of the yell feature, which is to connect all the areas of a single city to make it easier for people to not have to cram into one of those areas, not one area of all cities which forces everyone in each city to use one area of that city most of the time. Not to mention the fact that the port area isn't the most popular location in all cities.

Won't change anything, everyone will just congregate in another zone. The biggest problem is that all the bazaars are now in lower jeuno. Just bringing back bazaar taxes would probably be enough to relieve the congestion.

This was never a problem when lower jeuno was the hub and the population was 500k instead of the current 300k so I fail to see what exactly the problem is. The real problem is that Rolanmart moved into Port Jeuno.

I haven't looked at the actual per server census numbers, but I'm guessing that server merges have kept the relative population about the same.

Add bazaar tax in Port and Ru'lude, and limit AH use in Port and Ru'lude, keep Abyssea npcs in Port/Ru'lude. I think you'll find that it will go a long way to fix congestion when bazaars and AH people are taken out of the picture, because it's the only way to fix congestion. It's sad that it's come to this but it is futile to ask people to do something or to make compromises with them. They want you to force it on them or else they'll stay lazy and content with complaining about congestion while never doing anything to solve it themselves. Some do, I guess, but it's a pretty low number.

It's like trying to get someone to stop complaining about how easy Abyssea is and that there's no challenge. Don't wear buffs or atma. Make a challenge for yourself and stop waiting on SE to do it for you. Do they do it? Hell no. Because it isn't forced onto them. Force it on them. Problem solved.

How about dropping PS2?

That'd fix a bunch of problems.

From experience, people answer shouts more often because they ideal in the hub or have their hp in the hub so you can catch walk ins or people who have just returned to the game quicker since you can /shout every 1.5s or w/e it is, not once a min... a lot of people zone in and out of places in that time... maybe soloing a lower lv job or something, they arent going to wait for those minutes to do a pick up group for items they're after.

Ever since the Tax was lifted on all Jeuno areas everyone moved inside. Now instead of 100+ people standing outside one of the zones you have all those people (and more) standing in every Jeuno zone (mostly port). Put the tax back on all Jeuno zones and everyone will go back outside. That removes all those people from all Jeuno zones.

Move the seal guys to Upper since there really isnt anything in Upper worth hanging around for.

Port keeps Abyssea warps.

Ru'lude stays as it is cluttered with magian people.

Lower stays as it is with MMM (for those that still do it)

And have the /yell to all of Jeuno and the city zones where abyssea warpers are.

Fixed.

Just removing the bazaar people alone would help things.

Im usaly not one harp on the dev teams reasons behind certin things. But you started with nothing in terms of aby tele npcs. Then added port jeuno. Then added The Gardens. Then added them to all the starter towns. And now your saying adding tele npcs to a few areas (primaraly lower/upper jeuno) would by to hard or take a ton of work? I dont by it.

I can understand adding taxes again as a small help. And i can understnad why players are tired of ppl haning around, in the way, just to bazzar.

If you want to releive conjestion making 20 little counter measure arnt going to solve the problem. You have to look at it from the begining. So if the problems is conjestion (to many ppl in PJ) You have to look at 'why are ppl going to PJ all the time?' If those reasons cant be added to several zones then ppl will alwyas pick the one zone that has the most, and hang out their. Its always been that way, and it always will be unless multiple zones have the same options, and same comminucations. - When i started it was lower jeuno. Then it was Whitegate. Now its Port jeuno.

I perceive those proposed changes by the development team to urgently require a response.

• Please, no more taxes, ever. Auction house prices have already inflated through the roof. We don't need more gil taken from us.
• Leave the auction house in Port Jeuno. We need something to occupy our time while waiting.
• MAKE THE YELL FILTER DEFAULT TO OFF. Currently, because players have to go out of their way to enable themselves to see yells, most yellers also accompany their yell with a shout in Port Jeuno.
• Make Jeuno easy to get to. It's currently the most inconvenient major nation to reach. That way, we have options for our home points.
• Are there still synergy furnaces in Port Jeuno? Take those bad boys out if so.

• The crest/seal NPCs in a different zone is a good idea. How about our home nations, near the outpost NPCs?

Maybe they should just add another zone specifically for bazaaring, and make it accessible from every town in the game. Sort of like chocobo circuit is now, but made for bazaaring rather than racing.

I somewhat agree with most of what you said except for this. Turning off the yell feature would clear up the chat log for the few people who don't want to see the shouts, but haven't turned it off, but it would do nothing to alleviate the lag.

Add jueno to explorer moogles. Make them permanent. Put them outside every mog house. Make yell work in all cities. Then we will all gladly set our homepoints in our personal favorite town :-)

Just use a certain websites Shout log reader function and stay away from jeuno lol

Regardless, just because *you* don't like it is no reason for it to be removed. You have the power to turn it off if you don't want to use it. Once again to fail to read and understand people's posts and just think you are some important person on these forums. If you would learn to read peoples post you will see that I never said remove the /yell feature totally. I said link the 4 Port areas together instead of just linking all of Jeuno. The point is it will make it that people do not have to stay in Jeuno, they can go back to their home nation if they are concerned about /yells. People will have all the necessary things other then 1 single place to bazaar. Instead of 1500 people in Port Jeuno, or 1500 people in Whitegate as you want the lag is the same. The bazaar count is the same. At least if the /yell feature was split between the 4 Port areas you might be able to cut that 1500 people (or whatever your server has) from 1 zone into say 400 people per zone. Far less lag, still have the /yell feature, still have Abyssea NPCs and add the magian moogles to the port areas and there you go. Less lag.

And idk about your server but yes people do have all out conversations in /yell. Also what is the difference between moving people to Whitegate or moving people to the home cities? Moving people to the home cities will be FAR less lag then moving people to Whitegate. Also I can turn your statement around on you, Just because *you* like the yell feature doesn't mean *I* have to like it. That's my opinion and I am entitled to it.

I'll just stick with hanging out in upper. Luto makes a decent conversationalist ;P

Thats not the first japanese post asking about using an PHP esque array (also found in python iirc) to alter the yells... though the question is, would SE be able to make such an array system with their current code with out over extended the 3 guys they feed cocopuffs >.>

It looks like you don't understand the reasons behind inflation. It's because there's too much gil coming into the system and not enough being taken out. The more gil exists in the game, the less it's worth hence inflation. Bringing back taxes will lower inflation not increase it.

Bumping this idea for the Community representatives to read. This would be great. I spend more than half my current daily playtime trying to bazaar Dynamis currency to buy another type that I need for my relic weapon. And I am not the only one who does this, by far. I think this idea would get rid of a lot of idle bazaars and thus congestion, while also making the game a lot more handy and fun. I really hope something like this happens.

i know what we need a bazzar zone in jeuno lets call it the Jeuno Bazzar

lets get get a zone ware off of port jeuno ware bazzar's have a 0 tax but put a 10% tax in the rest of jeuno

I've always thought it would be great to just receive and reply to shouts while your in your mog house in Jeuno area or Whitegate and to atleast be able to toggle it off or on while your in there

I would like to take a moment and elaborate on my previous post and add some other suggestions for relieving the Port Jeuno congestion. It is my hope that the developers would take these ideas into consideration.

Going back to my point on the AFK Bazaar situation. One point, as mentioned previously, was to implement a Vana'delian Bank would facilitate the selling and purchasing of non-Gil currencies. There could even be a "Safety Deposit Box" type of item similar to the Moogle Porter Claim Slips for people choosing to store currencies for later use.

The way I see it, the Bank would work like this:
Choose to either Store, Sell, Buy, or Trade currency
1) Store currency: Use the Deposit Box item.
2) Sell currency: Offer any number (singles, full stacks, or incomplete stacks) of currency for a single price point.
3) Buy currency: Purchase currency at the requested rate, if available.
4) Trade currency: Offer one type of currency for another, if available. In order to keep things fair, restrict this to same-event currencies only. (I think this would only come into play for Dynamis).

For Buying and Selling currency - similar to listing something in your own bazaar, list the price you would want for a single unit. This will allow flexibility in allowing people to sell exactly what they have and allow people to buy exactly what they need.

The system would then function like the Auction House in regards to selling at cost, lowest to highest, without revealing the true price of the listing.

Another point to alleviate AFK Bazaars is a rather simple request. Make any Bazaarable item, sans currency for reasons outlined above, sellable on the Auction House. There is no reason why there needs to be a "Black Market" of sorts to sell items like Kirin's Osode.

As an aside, there are comments regarding levying taxes on Bazaars in Jeuno again. I don't intend to turn this into an economics debate, but if it is necessary, tax the items posted to the Auction House as a sort of "restricted" item fee, and/or against the buyer. Simply levying a tax on all Bazaars is simply going to push the Bazaars outside of the taxed zones, and pushing the congestion somewhere else, and eliminating the point of taxing bazaars in the first place.

Conclusion (or tl;dr): Helping players facilitate buying and selling Bazaar-only items will help alleviate congestion in popular zones by removing a majority of the players with a Bazaar while AFK.

Another point being mentioned here on the forums (as well as in my previous post) is about how Jeuno is difficult to travel to. I feel this is also causing some congestion, as people would rather have easy access to a popular hub zone than have access to other things available in a home nation.

I have a few simple ideas that may help.

1) Airships: Departure intervals and travel times are too long. Shorten these times to help facilitate travel to and from Jeuno. Increase fees if necessary.

2) Direct travel to Abyssean Cavernous Maws: Right now, the only method is to use Horst and the others to do so. This requires traveling to a city and using them. Instead, allow one to use Cruor to purchase an item to allow travel from the field. The item could function similar to Magian Specs. Use it, pop a book, select your destination, bam!
Cruor cost could be equivalent for the amount of charges on the item, or charge cruor per use.

While this doesn't help for parties requiring a Job Change, every little bit counts, right?

This is a good idea and theory on paper but they tried this in FFXIV. I'm not sure if you tried that game yet but that system doesn't really work that well. Nice idea tho but in practice it doesn't seem to work. In any event what it comes down to is lazyness. The search functions with comments is a great way to get parties or whatever your seeking to do but the problem is that no one likes to search threw all the ppl looking for groups to read comments. /yell is a great idea but I think should be designated to cities or make it were all the teleport moogles to aby or whatever is in all city ports and you can do a /yellport from one city and it shows up in all city ports? Another thing for jeuno would be to either tax port jeuno bazaars. Make it so the lower or upper jeuno are the only bazaar places and port jeuno is just that for porting around other areas.

The congestion isn't even just because of bazaars, it's also largely because that's where most people gather and thus where most people shout to find other people. so people recruiting for events or people looking to join events tend to loiter in the zone... (You remember Lag Gate?)Also, people running afk bazaars generally want to be where they have the highest potential consumer traffic,so they also park there. Implementing the /yell command was definitely a step in the right direction, and I think expanding upon that idea may help far more than simply re-introducing taxes to alleviate congestion. Being able to view shouts/yells from inside one's mog house, as well as being able to view yells from different cities means that people would no longer have an excuse to all gather in one zone in order to group up or find people. One way to take this a step further even would be to implement the ability to invite people to party/alliance from within different main cities as well. In regards to people running bazaars trying to find the consumers, perhaps implementing some way for people to use the /search command to browse what people have in their bazaar and at what price and where to find said bazaar? These changes would, in my opinion, do far more to alleviate congestion anywhere than simply removing the auction house and re-introducing taxes as they remove the excuse or need to gather together as one large mass anywhere.

I don't think bazaars are really the problem, rather the sheer amount of features that Port Jeuno has compared to almost any other zone.

1. Airships.
2. The only access to Qufim Island.
3. Abyssea Teleports.
4. Beastmen/Kindred seal storage & conversion.
5. Chocobos.
6. Synergy Furnaces.
7. Probably something else I'm forgetting.

The zone was clearly designed to be a hub; if the FFXI infrastructure can't support it anymore you either need to a) redesign the infrastructure or b) start removing the reasons people gather in the zone.

Btw, I know the FFXI dev team is down to a skeleton crew (thanks mostly to FFXIV I'd imagine) but from the various statements released by the devs it really sounds like there's just two guys in a basement working on it >.> You might want to think about how that information is published because it's not exactly filling us with hope for FFXI's future.

Nice necro bump. I will comment anyways due to the fact that in the last month, I have noticed that 99% of bazaars are just currency now.

I know that a substantial amount of money is made by SE from people who pay for mules just so that they can sell / craft crap, and that SE doesn't want to eliminate that income. SE also keeps people engaged in the game world, by giving them the incentive of making Gil while away, as long as they don't log out.

To that end, I propose a new Auction house type of facility that requires that the person be logged in for their item to be available (just like a bazaar), but does not require them to be present. Or, They could be required to be in a certain zone, but not in the actual zone where the purchase is made. IE. In order for items to be displayed in this new warehouse, the seller must remain in their moghouse, or home town (or where ever the developers think that the traffic would not be a nuisance).

This new Auction House would only sell items like currency, plates, mirrors, geodes and other popular quest items / currencies that are sold in bulk, and other bazaar only items.

This would keep the people / mules online (and thus paying their fees), and keep them out of high traffic zones.

More importantly, it would make finding / selling these items a lot easier, and clear up a lot of traffic in congested zones (if that's even an issue anymore.).
