Will we ever find out where this goes to?
What will happen to the community reps and localization team?
THF pops up impressive numbers but a good MNK still does about the same damage as a good THF when you take DPS into consideration and as a bonus doesn't get oneshot by delve bosses the way THF does.
Yeah but EVE is basically the 4chan of MMOs.
Pay closer attention: the Norg ship is a barge, not an airship. It was noted several years ago that, shortly after it leaves dock, the Selbina/Mhaura ship is attacked by PIRATES. It makes sense that a pirate raiding ship would use a secret pirate towns secret dock as its home base.
Because now I have to spend MORE money, and I already have an alien ware for gaming as well as 5 pcs that I use for gaming,my problem is now in order to play i have to spend more money to replace hardware as well, and when you multiple accounts on 1 device, the game runs significantly slower which is why I play on consoles primarily and not my towers. Not to mention that xboxs can't get viruses....
Believe me, over the last 10 years I have fully explored ways to play ffxi (from using my portable ps2 , to using my swivel/cinemin video projectors and playing it in my expedition SUV) the reason I'm not so happy about them taking away xbox support is because I have found it to be the best way for ME to play the game. The reason I bought all these devices was to play ffxi on a console, when I travel out of the country playing it on my very pricy Alienware (which I customized online and bought from the AW site specifically for ffxi) is more ideal however I enjoy xbox ffxi at home and It sucks I have to say goodbye to something that I still currently use on an everyday basis.
I literally have spent a lot of my earnings and stipends (I'm in entertainment) on enjoying ffxi as to the max, when I purchased my first house I made an arcade room where I could comfortably sit and play ffxi (as well as about 10 stand up arcade machines which mainly run on RAM/ROM) it sucks that I'm also going to have to modify my arcade room as well if I continue to play ffxi.
The other benefit to playing on xbox and NOT running all my chars on 1 system is when I have friends over , they can sit at a ffxi station in my arcade and play the game on xbox with me.
As I stated I have multiple gaming pcs and laptops and game copies so quickly acclimating myself to this change wouldn't take more than the version updates, however I have always found ffxi to be superior on a console due to the ability to not screw up ur laptop / tower. The more third party programs you install on ur PC the more risk u have to viruses which can't be fixed with antivirus software and it's tedious removing viruses.
Lastly, I usually move 2 chars at the same time (which is easy with practice since I play piano) so I prefer to have full access over my chars vs letting a program use them / alt tab, I've always been anti PC games and pro console games so I am heavily effected by this
My favorite way to play ffxi: 2 xbox controllers and 1 keyboard
What happened to the new UI that was planned? Is that still planned under this project?
Well when I first read it, it was my understanding that they are making it so both windows and pc players can communicate and play together on the severs with the characters you already have.
Honestly there was a point in my life when I wouldn't wanted the FFXI game to come to a end like all of you players out there but with my real social life dwindling, relationships in person never formed, a broken relationship or relationships after all the years of play, I've come to a reconsideration of everything i've ever done wasting my time away on games and just seems its becoming a great blessing that i'll be getting a more productive social life for once... as i've been trying to get away from games for a long time in which it looks like I will be able to buy stuff from david wygant finally after the game ends which would help my social life in various ways and who knows the mobile version of ffxi implemented with another name in an expansion form just might be what the doctor ordered to get out and be social while still able to play ffxi on the go everywhere you are with a mobile device.
An Interesting note as to what could've been on the game creators minds when they decided to go into mobile with ffxi: If any of you ever installed the nvidia experience program/app on your computer's, you all know about there incorporating a system called game streaming with their Shield Tablet or Shield Portable Devices that allows you to play a game on your computer but can instantly switch it to the Shield Tablet/Portable and continue playing right the exact moment you're at in the game or left off at the point on the pc.
This is what I was thinking about when they mentioned about the economy market of the changing times, there is now a lot of devices out there in which they'll allow you to watch movies, etc. say from your cable/satellite tv moving it on over to your mobile phones to continue right where you left off watching the movie/show and even some games out now that have implemented this method of play into their system/game and what this does is makes me wonder if this is the exact method they have planned for ffxi going into mobile?
 Now how cool is that if you can continue playing your pc game right the exact second you're at in the game on your mobile device if something arose where you had to get going in where you had to leave the house?? I'd think it be a brainy-cool idea for FFXI gamers playing the game. :o
Edit: I'm sure the creators/?sponsors? considered every option or avenue in there players and anticipated the questions they may receive before going ahead with there decisions with futures of ffxi and I wouldn't doubt its the reason they gave a year in advance notice to give everyone time to prepare for the switch and even maybe purchase what needs to be done ahead of time before the set date arrives for permanent changes to be perceived.
We actually got a sort of official response on this :)
Yoshitsugu Saito: That’s a good question! (laughs) But putting all jokes aside, Norg has its own burgeoning markets in addition to its den of piracy, and as such often engages in trade with nearby islands. As such, it occupies a place similar to Mhaura and Selbina—there is no one set location.

There will be no ps4 or Xbox1? Will you fix the game for window 8.1?
My question is only potentially related to the Vana'diel Project:
Now that the development team will not be making new content anymore, what will their next task be? Will we get another full-fledged (non-mobile), Vana'diel-based game? Or will the team disband and go their separate ways to other projects (FFXIV, DQ, FFXVI...)?
Basically you have to liturally manually turn on the Legacy Features in 8.1 by going to control panel, Programs and features, and finding "Turn Windows features on or off" and here is the link with instructions on how to do it: http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/forum.htm...12467588909672 but take careful noting that you do not have to reinstall windows 8.1/8.1 pro to do this method. Also it may require the windows 7 windows playonline viewer install that can be found on the playonline's website but I can't help but wonder with windows 10 coming out not to long from now, if it might be part of the cause for change/taking a different direction for the ffxi game.
Q1: With the change in direction towards a more mobile platform, plus the direction of producing no more content for Final Fantasy XI, will the subscription price be changed?
I'm wondering if there are any plans around the time of the final phase of updates to release or sell any type of memorabilia for the game. Would be great to have an art book or a compilation of behind the scenes information about the game during the last 13 years and would give fans something to look back on.
Q2: Will there be anything new added to the game after November? Abilities, weapons, armor, etc. Will there be any sense of progression?
Q3: Assuming that there's demand, will an ARR-type upgrade be possible with FFXI now that it'll be on PC only?
Edit: Just to clarify, I'm not asking about FFXI being like FFXIV: A realm reborn. Rather, I'm asking if there's a chance to do a major graphical/UI/gameplay upgrade like what happened with FFXIV to ARR.
What's the life expectancy after the updates complete? Will there be a server merge? I've lived on Fenrir since day one of the NA PS2 release we absorbed Unicorn and it's still a a very light population. I have 0 interest in playing this on a phone will the phone game be essential to playing ffxi?
PS2 and Xbox 360 support from the console manufacturers is ending next year. How is SE supposed to keep supporting it when official support channels are closing. They did the same thing wwhen Win98 and Win2000 were dropped by Microsoft. You're complaining about first-world problems that most people don't have. If you set up right, you can duplicate the console experience on an inexpensive PC. PCs usually have a 5 year lifespan, while consoles usually have a 5-10 year life span. Well PS2 will be 16 next year, and Xbox 360 will be 10. You could always play on your smartphone...
i see alot of questions and not alot of answers lol. ADDRESS THE MONSTROSITY QUESTION WE DESERVE TO KNOW!!
I want this. I could care less about mobile support. Even if FFXI has to go down for a few months like FFXIV 1.0 did, I'd be totally fine with that as the finished product will be worth waiting for. You make a two-for-one subscription to FFXIV and basically bank on two horses at once.
Can a single player version of this game be released? I go back, sometimes, and play all of the other Final Fantasy games. To have XI, the one I have the most fond memories of, be unplayable ever again would be depressing.
At the very least, if you do end up shutting the game down, one day, can you allow individuals to set up their own servers without suing them into stopping?
I have this question too. I fear that the mobile version will use a cash shop and introduce new gear, higher iLvl etc that will carry over into the PC version...so since i won't be getting the mobile, i see even less reason to continue playing when i suspect
1) new content will end for PC
2) progress we do make will be obsoleted by the mobile
I guess the main diff is the company has 2 other major and far newer MMOs and the board saw the subs for this one continue to dwindle and that the last expansion only lowered the # of subs. They probly want 11 dev team working on the other MMOs. We're getting to the point that they had to decide between raising the iLvl or wrapping it up...and they chose the latter
Other diffs is the issues with sony/microsoft over adding new content with limited resources. Cut off ps2/xbox as they're doing and you might see closer to EQ numbers. In addition, they may hope that some # of 11 players will move on to 14 long term.
The newer consoles aren't backwards compatible. This would take an investment and cooperation and a percentage from microsoft. Also some of the 'minor' updates after november might include things the consoles can't handle, ps2 especially (much more storage space etc)
Wasted? Nothing lasts forever i'm afraid, including $. So many of us would've spent more than $500/yr at a bar or other games. Well guess what, that is "wasted" just as much. You know what's not wasted is the memories
Will Matsui answer some of our questions on the next freshly picked Vana'diel?
Your assumption does seem realistic, based on the process and timeline in which FF14 was introduced. However, if i were the one making the decision, and I dont presume I know the intricate methodology of their business, I would simply cut down the development drastically, BUT continue developing the game and continue reaping profits, because it in fact has proven itself to be very stable given the sheer amount of time people have been hanging on to the game.
It wouldn't be a great loss financially to divert a majority of the developers over to 14, if they so wish, and simply create a schedule of perhaps one content update every 2 years, even once in 3 years if they like. That in itself would not be received extremely well by the community, however the psychology is sound in that people see a foreseeable future for the game.
To hope that some of the 11 players will move to 14 long term is a risky endeavour at best. Essentially if 11 players move on, there are no extra profits involved in that it's merely swapping one subscription for another, and the high likelihood that a lot of people dont even move over and either stop gaming or play other games.
In addition, they absolutely must see that FFXI is a game that holds extreme longevity, and that the theme park model of ff14, while very well received at the moment, may not offer similar longevity, given the lack of socialization and community, which is pretty much what binds people to a game in the first place. It seems a terrible mistake to bank everything on ff14 on the premise that at this very point in time, it offers higher margins on a sales chart. That seems to be like a horrible lack of foresight and a risky gamble.
Of course, if ffxi in itself is not making any profit and creating losses, then i fully understand their decision. However, in comparison with other games, we can safely assume they are making a profit, even though small. They just seem to not want to be bothered just to earn smaller profits, and in the end alienating their loyal players and creating distrust. In the end, is that worth the damage to their company reputation as a whole?
If they could do this to ffxi, I wouldnt want to go to ff14 either, because it's a vastly more volatile game by way of subscribership and they could shut that down at any point in time too.
Remove nexus cape restrictions, allow all zone previously visited except abbysea.
I can only imagine the amount they made with Seekers, it must have been decent. I have no idea why they feel this will be the most profitable but to me it doesn't seem so. A new expansion could easily increase sub numbers provided ps2/xbox are dropped and we see big changes, they probably didn't think it was worth the time.
Once the PS2/Xbox 360 versions cease to exist, how long do you plan to keep the PC version servers up and running?
I'm confused by this note. I installed FFXI on my 8.1 laptop last December and also on a surface pro 3 a few weeks ago. It plays beautifully on the laptop and better than I expected on the Surface Pro without changing any windows legacy settings or anything else special that I can think of. I just installed, configured the display settings and joystick, and played. I thought it was easier than the past.
Are job point categories and gifts going to be expanded at all?
They currently cap out at 10 points per item and it was originally stated they would expand up to 30.
I would like to see them expanded to 30pts per category and more gifts added.
My favorite jobs have 100-150ish job points currently, I like the jobpoint+gift system and would like it to be something that continues to allow small increments of character growth for those of us playing beyond the end of 2015.
are we going to have a New Way to farm heavy metal plates maybe from the new addon expansion VW is dead!.
