here's a question on everybody's mind--will RUN get access to any plate armor? Hoping they aren't totally screwed in the STR department since it's been said they can DPS a bit.

I'm pretty sure its a yes on both of those fronts. They are like Tanky Dark Knights, it seems like. A union between a trifecta of Red Mage, Paladin, and Dark Knight.
I'd say their highest stats will be:
MND > STR > INT > VIT
Here's hoping Runes use MND. I never get to stack MND.
I'm actually doubting Rune Fencer will get heavy armor available to PLD/WAR/SAM/DRG.
From what I've seen so far, the idea seems to be this:
Imagine two intersecting, orthogonal axes, one horizontal and one vertical. The intersection point, the point of origin, is Red Mage. The horizontal axis is magical abilities; White Mage is to the right, Black Mage is to the left. The vertical axis is newish and describes melee abilities: Paladin is up and Rune Fencer is down.
They're denying Rune Fencer Protect V just as they've denied Paladin Shell V. I don't expect Rune Fencer to have better (melee) armor options than Red Mage has.
By "heavy armor" I had in mind the stuff available to jobs that get proc'd by weapon skills in Dynamis. I'm expecting Rune Fencer to be limited to armor you'd see on jobs proc'd by job abilities.
I think it might be interesting to have a two-handed job that uses medium armor, now that both two-handed weapons and medium armor are worlds better than when Dragoon was in that position. Of course, there's a chance that will also make Rune Fencer's Resolution set the bane of all inventories.
Your point? If its a tank or if its a DD, it should have the ability to use a TP set in either case, in case you haven't noticed, PLDs use TP sets too... But ok, its a tank, your still lacking a ton of tank gear on RDM. You lose access to Twilight, Nocturnus, Mekira Mek, Ogier's Helm, Laeradr, need I go on? Heavy armor has the most -DT stats per piece of any gear out there, a tank not being on it is like a healer not being on the best cure potency pieces.
PLD uses TP sets because they can't actually tank any more; their only option is to pretend to be a DD. That will hopefully no longer be the case after Dear Developers implement the Brave New World of Enmity.
It's a magic tank...Quote:

They are not getting rid of damage based enmity completely, some damage will need to come from the job in order to maintain hate, JAs cant do it all by themselves. Also, the job is using Great Sword as their main weapon, damage output is to be expected in some form, if they are only taking damage while dealing very little then they should be using Shield and Sword like a PLD, or something with more defenses built into its weapons and weaponskills.
Every piece I listed is a Damage Taken piece, not a PDT piece. The only exceptions to that are Nocturnus, which has Magic Absorbtion, an amazing stat, and Twilight, which has a ton of INT & MND, as well as Auto-Reraise, stats that are amazing for magic damage, and just generally surviving. I understand the idea behind it being a magic tank, I also understand however that it will not go well if it does not have the armor to do that job effectivly.Quote:

You mean the evasion tank which gets access to a ton of evasion gear, as well as fast cast gear to speed up its shadows cast speed, not to mention haste gear which lowers recast? Yes, I know, it has gear that accentuates the fact it is an evasion tank whos method of tanking involves not being hit, rather than being hit and taking much less damage from it. Rune sounds as though it is going to be one of those tanks who expect to get hit, but take little damage from it, part of this is shown in my opinion by the fact it gets Phalanx. I suppose I did say it in a way that sounded differently than I intended, so allow me to clarify. A job not on the primary gear which accentuates its traits to the fullest sounds crazy and irrational, if its job is to tank magic the best, it should be on gear which is the best for doing just that. Putting it on other gear seems foolish, and only asking for it to do worse at its job then it should.Quote:

Assuming the information thus far about Rune Fencer is spot on, I'm not sure what use the job would have for equipment used to cast Enfeebling Magic, Dark Magic, Elemental Magic, or Healing Magic. Surely, the Development Bros wouldn't put a new job almost entirely on equipment that does nothing for it...
...abandon all hope. Kill the children now so that they will not have to endure what is to come.
In all seriousness, I fully expect Rune Fencer to be a heavy armor class, simply because the game has comparatively few heavy armor classes. To wit, compare the list of jobs that can use the Nuevo Coselete, the Mirke Wardecors, and the Royal Redingote.
Really same could be said of any of the sets which have come out in the last few months, they all have about 6 Heavy, 6 Mages, and 8 Light. So Rune is probably Heavy and Geo is probably Mage, be a bit more balanced then between the 3 as well.
Play RDM?
PLD has much better TP gear than RDM. Don't see how Rune Fencer would have bad TP options. Only thing that slows PLDs down is their Shield, something Rune Fencer isn't looking at.
Yeah, I'm scared of that. CDC gear is the reason I don't use CDC on RDM. No space.
I hope they have the gear of BST instead of PUP. BST is on so much stuff. Phorcys + Skadi+1 = Happy.
I hope they add them on to stuff like NNI and Salvage gear. It would be hard to image them doing well without that or just really broken AF, Relic, and Empyrean.
looks like they're using XSI to create content, so probably xp. Don't think vista was ever officially supported.
Greetings everyone!
The Community Team has journeyed deep into Ulbuka to explore all the brand-new content Seekers of Adoulin has to offer. We're happy to say that we are currently planning to hold a live stream in the very, very near future to show off and comment on some of the new aspects that can be found in the expansion. Once we have a confirmed broadcasting date we will be sure to update you all, but please look forward to joining myself and the rest of the Community Team for some awesome live stream action. :)
Please please please PLEASE refer to the person who is function as the camera as Mr./Ms. Camera the entire time.
:D
While this is good news, we are but 13 days from release, and we are still waiting till the "very, very near future" to see things, this for some reason does not make me happy or feel better about the expansion.
You do release Demon, that before all we got was pictures of new expansions and barely that. We should consider ourselves lucky we are even getting this. I for one took off 6 straight days from work to play. Going to be epic honestly.
I do realize that, but its still pathetic on many levels that it took till this close to release that we will be getting some video about it in the "very, very near future" especially when going by their normal speed on things. This sort of thing should have been here already a month or more before release, not a week and a half. Besides that they have showed off very little so far, what we have actually seen was a trailer, I honestly don't think the English side of things has seen anything else or at least not much.
We should be excited about the new events, looking forward to what is coming, they originally made some things sound very new to the game and as if it were completely different than we have seen before, like the exploring, being able to remove obstacles in terrain. Rather than showing any of this off so far, we have seen nothing, we have had some words thrown at us, but more from third party sources than from SE and the official site itself. So while I am still looking forward to the expansion, I feel like it is a hollow excitement, its like a kid excited for Christmas, I could open my present to find the best thing I could have wished for, something that was worth the wait and excitement. At the same time, I could open my present to find a lump of coal which I hate and despise, only proving more to me that my parents do not care and that all these months of excitement about my presents was only setting myself up for a massive disappointment.
Basically, I feel this is long overdue, and I feel like its to little to late, we should have saw a lot more of the expansion and what it has to offer by now, and at this point it feels like a hollow gesture to give us a little video on it when most of us have spent our money on it already if we were going to, and it will be out in less than two weeks.
What's more amazing is that this close to release, people in the EU can't even preorder or buy the digital edition of the product yet. You can preorder an Xbox disc... yay.
Why they wouldn't just let us purchase the expansion code on the account management website and have the client download all necessary data is beyond me. But that's how it's been for more than ten years, no need to change, right?
While I agree that is ridiculous that EU players are getting that kind of treatment, the reason for not letting us download it from the client is simple. Look at updates the day they come out, the amount of issues people have downloading it, the speed it goes at, if it were a full expansion doing that it would take much longer and it would be hellish wait times for people. When a new update happens right now it takes about 2 hours for a larger update which adds things like Neo-Salvage, many people are forced to wait a while because the servers can not support that many people downloading it at one time, so they are disconnected either during the update or before they can start it. If it were a full on expansion being downloaded, it would take more like 10 hours or more and it would also end up being a much longer waiting line because of the time it takes.
Or at least, thats what I believe, if I am wrong someone please correct me.
Wow what a bunch of negative nancys! Thanks Camate for the information that the COMMUNITY TEAM went out of their way to film and narrate a video for us only a few days after there were multiple forum requests. Considering the DEVELOPMENT TEAM was probably extremely hard at work making sure there weren't a large number of glitches considering you guys developed the entire expansion in maybe 6-9 months. I wish I could take 6 days off of work as well and I would if it were up to me. I only hope that all of the new gear introduced in the expansion doesn't make all the recent "best" gear obsolete since I just finally got nearly completely pimped. From what I've seen on the SoA website though, I'm stoked about the HNM type fights and hope they invite some of the old school strategy killing again.
Last thing though, can you tell us if the new 1-Hours and embrava/perfect defense nerf are coming so that I can sell all my enhancing gear to buy it back in 2 months. Thanks!
Camate,
Can you please tell the Camera man to tab around frequently, be in THIRD person view the entire time, and for the love of Altana...PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE DO NOT USE THE MINIMUM GRAPHIC SETTINGS. I've watched the JP stream recording, and quite frankly, it made me want to gouge my eyes out.
Is it going to be a set of NA representatives, or will it be Matsuiakihiko and Mocchi in english?
SoA was announced at Vanafest on June 23rd. That was 9 months ago, and I am sure they had some work done before they announced it, so its probably more around a year or more that they worked on it. Not saying your wrong about them working hard on it, but I still feel as though they are giving us to little to late so far as informing us what it will have, which annoys me for a few reasons but outside of that it seems like a wasted opportunity they had to get this game some more players which is something our producer said he wanted to do earlier this year. Rather than using the opportunity that this gave them they instead kept quiet about almost everything since it was announced and only now that it is so close to release are we finally seeing them tell us we will get some video in English of the expansion being played. Mind you I also expect the video to be full of things we already know, giving us very little info, that part is negative on my part but the rest I do not think as being negative, but rather realistic.
In fact, buying the expansion on an online site (for NA there is the official Square Enix store but the European one doesn't have Adoulin) would make you download the expansion as an installer, lessening the amount of data you have to download when the patch goes live.
That would, however, require the expansion to actually be purchasable somewhere :D
Camate, you still didn't answer the burning question.
What is that operating system that they're using?!
I just want to know one thing. I got the Final Fantasy XI: Ultimate Collection -- Abyssea Edition through Steam. If I pre-order Seekers of Adoulin through the official site now, and I do the download and installation, will it work? Or, do we need to wait however long for Steam to get Seekers of Adoulin as DLC or whatever?
need to find some way to get Fujito involved in this, that guy is a boss
