No thanks. I hate having to run around from store to store hoping to find a card in stock. Hard to even find nintendo cards... SE cards would be a nightmare. Stores don't want to stock something that maybe 10 people in town want once a month.

Working credit card/debit card system and paypal is perfect. Pay in my pajamas, at home, no biking all over town required.

Yeah I don't get the people bashing paypal here. I've done hundreds of transactions no problem. So a few scammers charge back or something? I don't care, scammers gonna scam, they will find a way no matter what payment system you use. Hence why stuff like counterfeit money exists.

Dude pressed the wrong button on ebay and blames it on paypal... okie dokie. Also I had a wrong address on my paypal before and it took exactly one note to the seller to get it sent to the right place... not weeks of anguish... maybe online shopping is just too hard for some folks.

It really doesn't even have much to do with scamming, it's more about horrendous customer service coupled with some shady practices (like the one that caused me to unknowingly make a purchase before I was ready to do so that I explained before). I haven't been scammed by anyone in particular (yet...), and in fact the seller I dealt with in the mentioned incident was very understanding and said "ive had a few issues like that in the past, don't worry about it).

Also something really stupid, apparently when you send money to someone (not a purchase) the recipient pays the fee. For instance, I won a big contest for a company once. They sent me the cash prize via paypal. The amount I recieved was less than what they sent me, because paypal deducted the fee from the transaction amount, rather than charging a fee to the sender.

The lack of eagerness to take your money is weird with SE, that much is for sure; I really don't know why they're dragging their feet in offering additional payment methods- because gripes aside, it will help a lot of people give them money. FFXI may not be that big but it would also affect FFXIV which also uses the square enix account system. So my guess is as good as anyone's why they haven't done this, even if it is with a company I hate.

I don't understand people not having the means to get a card though. There are prepaid cards you can just buy at any major store, no credit rquired. I got a debit card on my checking account the day I turned 18. I got my first credit card (with a pathetic limit but a card nonetheless) not long after- it's not hard to get one, you just go to a bank and apply or ask. Either is far safer than cash, especially for me as someone who tends to... lose things. It depends a lot on your country though, to be fair. Some countries have plastic so prevalent that they may even be eliminating physical money in the next 20-30 years. Other countries love their cash and checking accounts and cards aren't so common.

While I do use paypal for a few things like Ebay (since you're basically forced to), Paypal is a really crappy (for lack of a better term) company- They are able to act much like a financial institution without all of the same regulations and I find their customer service to be worse than SEs and I really don't want to use paypal unless they don't take anything else- And, even when I use paypal, my credit card is the funding source for my paypal account. So it's really no different than just using my card.

UP/Playspan is still a business, and up and running. They just stopped doing their Gamecards. Basically, we got zero notice that paypal/other payment services were being removed (other than Ultimate gamecards).

I have in total about 6 different credit cards. Two of them are visa debits tied to my bank account. I use them with no issues everywhere else online. I have several other actual credit cards, again, which I use online and in stores with no issues. I also went out and a) bought a visa prepaid card, following the additional step of registering it online with my address so it would have an address to check and match vs my SE address, and b) went through more hassle than I should have and got a brand new visa credit card not tied to any financial institution I'm currently affiliated with. Not a single of these options worked. I got 500 crysta to go through once on my main visa debit in about eight months when I was just jokingly testing to see if it would work. (In hindsight I really with I had tried to buy more).

I've tried every browser, tried different computers, even tried different internet.

SE's payment system is full of more holes than a block of swiss cheese.

PS: Paypal really isn't any more or less shady than most american banks. Just sayin!

It's their system, unfortunately, I've tried pretty much everything humanely possible to try and fix it. As far as I can tell, there's a LOT of people that are having the same problem (there's a 120+ page thread on the 14 forums about it) and they did just finally release an official statement confirming the problem. It's just a very, very poorly implemented (and overly zealous) fraud system.

Just give player the option to buy code with CC/paypal. The issue with Paypal/CC is that it doesn't work very well in certain region, with game time code you just input a set of code and done.
