1. 1k = 1000 yes; although k is short for kilo-, however, you would never read it as "10 kilo gil". (-k is used with regards to 100- denominated currencies. For those with 1,000-denominations, there is no "-k" equivalent, but rather a different name entirely for the 1,000-piece. In the case of gil, there is no penny-to-dollar, pence-to-pound; it is more closely related to how the Japanese Yen is written. (See below).
2. 1M (capital M) is for million, not mega, contrary to popular belief. Currencies do not follow metric rules.
3. There is no Giga in currency, it goes Million/Billion/Trillion/Quadrillion, etc., so "1G Gil" basically does not exist. (See below).
As a few side notes, just because I'm anal-retentive:
1. There is/are no such things as "Gils". Gil is both singular and plural. Again, similar to the Japanese Yen, ¥200 is read as "two hundren Yen", whereas $2 would be read as "two Dollars" or €3 as "3 Euros". Note the lack of plural suffix for Yen.
You would read/say: "Hundreds of Gil" not "hundreds of Gils" or "one hundred Gils."
You could say: "a Gil's worth in Echo drops" (like "a penny's worth of salt" however notice where the apostrophe is; you would hear the person say "Gils" but grammatically it would not be "Gils."
2. As far as FFXI is concerned, 1G is 1 Gil, as the capital letter "G" is the symbol for the currency itself. So when you say "1G Gil" you're actually saying "$1 Dollar", or "One dollar dollar."
