Looking at the wiki page for U-verse, it looks like their best plan is 3 mbps up? That isn't even close to usable, and it sure as hell is not fast.

Fyi, you can get 1 gbps up/down for under $100/month in japan.

3mbs is not usable?

wow, spoiled much? i had to play on dialup for about 3 months, so trust me, 3mbs is MORE than enough

and unless your seeding for torrents, 3mbs is more than enough for pretty much anyone

You seriously think 3 mbps is good enough to run ffxi's servers, with upwards of 50k+ connected at once? That'd be 61 BITS per second per user. No, that is not even close to usable.

A single 1 gbps connection wouldn't even be enough.

As far as personal use, i've got 5 mbps up myself, and no, it's really not enough. Even when i'm not seeding torrents, i easily cap that out, and wish i had more. If i had the money, i'd definitely pay the extra $50/month ($100/mo total) it'd cost me to upgrade to 100/15. Which still wouldn't be enough for me.

Rog, please...people fly back and forth between japan and california on almost a daily basis - square could easily move the hardware to their headquarters in california if they needed to. BUT - i was fooled by a friend of mine that services had been suspended till the the middle of May, so i was somewhat the victim of a cruel prank :)

Topdogg, most of japan is still perfectly intact, and there are many functional airports through-out the country. Let's not exagerate shall we.

Oh right, because if people can easily get from japan to California and back, then CLEARLY they can easily move hundreds (thousands? i dunno) of servers there, set them up, find an isp willing to provide them a dedicated 1 gbps+ line, installed same day, and canceled 1-2 weeks later, set the servers up, get them running, and then pack them up a week later, and fly them back to japan.

Well Rog, if it's only a week then you have a point - but like I said, i was a victim of a prank and was under the impression the suspension of services would last well into May.

But I still think Square could make the move if they needed to without too much hassle - but if it's still just a week i agree, better to just wait it out.

Really tired of these threads.... I was shocked the servers where running on the day of the quake and 2 days after. they have plants in trouble so everything not important got shut down.

why are people shocked SE shut the game down? if a word wide disaster that did not affect you personally would you insist them to move their servers to the moon?
Btw I googled to try to spell disaster and what do you think the first hit was?
