Reason for the payment system change (Found it!)

if i had to guess to why we have to use click n buy is because SE set up an agreement with them for FFXIV since no one is paying for FFXIV atm SE needs to start putting money into click n buy's accounts or run the risk of having to go to court over a breach in contract or maybe lose them as a partner in either case atm were stuck with it

it does not matter weather visa acquires play span, there are TONS of companies that will help with direct billing that involves all cards..

I'd have to agree with david, it really sounds more like some contractual agreement or security breach with PoL or something else. I highly doubt SE is changing this because they want too, and considering how sudden all this is they were probably forced too do it.

We know for a fact ffxi was planned to be switched to this system for a year now. It is the same system they initially set up for 14 with the intent to bring ffxi over so they had them all on the same system. This isn't a "they were suddenly forced to".

It is more likely either a. they are getting ready for ff14 to go to p2p and wanted to get them on the same system beforehand (since that was the original intent), or b. they put it off while trying to fix 14 since it wasn't going p2p right away, and they just now got around to doing it.

There could be other reasons for the timing, but this was a planned thing for quite some time, not a rushed job.

The community team recently posted to note that the 3.9% fee does not apply to payment collection for Square Enix.

This settles my primary reservation with C&B (though there are other reservations, such as lack of reasnoable customer service)

Sudden? People can hate cilck and buy, that's fine with me, but SE was very up front about this change and notified us WELL in advance. There are a lot of things to criticize SE for, but lack of notificaiton is not one of them.

Did you mean to quote me? Because that has pretty much nothing to do with what I was saying. I was asking the OP to explain why his nutty theory has anything to do with ClickandBuy.

The OP thinks there's a conspiracy caused by Visa's acquisition of PlaySpan which is what he thinks is the root of this whole billing change scenario, when that has nothing to do with ClickandBuy at all. Or anything else for that matter. The only reason it's relevant is because the spacemen living in the OP's air conditioner told him that it's relevant.

it's all a moot point anyway...JP regions are able to continue business as usual, as well as getting access to the additional payment methods while everyone else is being forced to completely restructure. All of this COULD and SHOULD have been idone consistently across the board. I could easily rage on for probly 3 pages on this, but instead, just gonna link the wall of text I posted on it in another thread:

Scroll down to section 7. Notice it is basically to select payment method. It's graphics so not translated, but they get option for CC or Crysta--note it is just a standard MC/VISA logo. Now go to section 8b:If you choose a credit card. Note that they can put their CC information directly in, and also note the 3DS and VbV logos in the lower panel. Also note the text under those graphics that did translate:

Essentially, they get to continue doing what we are doing now in addition to using Crysta.

At step 7, you get to choose either Crysta or Credit/Debit Card via Click and Buy--note that this step shows the C&B logo, not the generic Visa/MC like on the JP page. Now look at step 8b. You have to go through Click and Buy--no direct processing for 3DS or VbV cards.
