I don't like being more of a beta tester then I was in FF11. They had 8 years of MMO exp its clearly not thier first BBQ. The way paymeants are set up, wouldn't be so bad if you could buy game cards as a option. The very in your face way they limit how fast you can level. Passive ways to slow you down like high TNL low level missions that might pull you away from leveling all or ok since you would likely over look it. Having slow level as a way to try and trick people into thinking theres more content to the game when there is none is poor planing and dev.

Because upon my first hour of playing it, I saw a taru "Justin Beiber". I immediately logged out and shook my head, and logged back into FFXI.

I have to say I hated what they did with some of the races, Taru are really cute in FFXI, Lalafell look more like deformed midgets and have an eww factor :( Mi'quote look pretty but they lost all the character Mithra have when they animated them to move like a hume race. Sad they spent so much time making them looking pretty but lost the character the models they based them on had.

I think they used motion capture in FFXIV and it shows, in a bad way. FFXI movement animations were far far better, they are higher res/higher poly models but ultimately they messed up the basics.

There is nothing wrong with the animations, and i've never heard of motion capture being a bad thing. Lalafell look fine, and I could agree with mi'quote if I gave two farts about cat girl races. The only real problem here is the Roes dont have tails. In some ways it's good as it makes them more different, but I liked the galka because they were the least human-like, and I'm playing a fantasy game so I don't want to be a human if I can avoid it.

SE seems to be really upset that they screwed it up, and they have invested a lot into trying to bounce back. It has had some good secondary effects on XI as well, including an increase in communication, so I wouldn't fault XIV for too much.

Obviously this is going to dcome down to tastes, I personally hated the way the 2 races I mentioned moved because it seemed out of character to what the originals they were based on did. Mithra are a cat race and move as such in FFXI, Mi'quote are a human race with a weird fluffy tail and pointy ears.

Motion capture is bad if you are making fantasy races and they all move the same and move like human races, they didn't even try to put some acting into it to give off some character to the races. FFXI races look and move like they should, in character FFXIV races don't.

The increased communication is barely better than what we got before, the actual information is minimal. I see no difference in the actual amount of important information from when we got Q&A from fansites and the teasers on playonline.

You've clearly haven't been playing FFXI long.

Example:

We get an update, 3 months of silence follows, then tidbits resume right before another update is set to go, we never got Q&As etc, nor did we even get ANY type of communication unless it was vanafest, or a random interview on XI.

So unless I've been dealing with a different Square since the 1980s, pretty sure communication is a hell of a lot better than what it used to be, especially since 2001 - 2006 FFXI era.

You must not be paying attention or something, because it's LOADS better.

The difference since FFXIV release really isn't much better than it used to be. They got better over the years but not just because of how FFXIV failed.

We had road maps before FFXIV. The only stuff the staff on here talk about is stuff most players that have been here a while know already or stuff that is coming in the impending update. They don't answer hard questions or things people genuinly want to know, you just get bits and pieces.

There's too many concrete reasons for me to waste time listing here.

But the biggest reason was how the Beta and subsequent game launch went. It was clear that there was hardly anything in the game to do and the systems needed lots of work but they didn't care. The problems were too big to be ignorance or something else. That spoke loudly to me saying if their fundamental character dealing with the game would be such than there's no good reason to expect any better. I don't see myself ever playing FFXIV I'm turned off for good.

The game just way to laggy for one, no content, no ah , gear is basicly worthless, no real job uniqueness, no airships or chocobos, no auto attack, surnames suck and make sending a tell more of a hassel then is should be, linkshell systems sucks badly. Need i say more because thats not all.

I have a toon there. I didn't like the bugs at the beginning. I check in every now and then. Especially when there's a "patch" released. I like the changes Yoshi-P and Co. have brought about, but I want to wait til there's more content. When I play there full time, I want it to be when I have enough to do there, that I can leave FFXI for good. I hope that is soon cause I bought a $3500 macbook pro just to play the game on. Either more content or PS3 release so i can duo box is what I'm waiting on.

I still have my XIV account active but the two things that annoy me the most:

1- No communication / Search.

2 - Terrible, terrible music. I used to love Uematsu, but he needs to take a break or change careers :( Weird electric/synth music in battles in a fantasy setting is just too weird for me ...don't get me started on Ul'dah's music > EW!

I do not understand how you can sit there and say "we learn from our past mistakes and will have seamless zoning.." when that is not the case. Frankly I feel lied too, i feel it was made in a vacuum of information.

I think ul'dah's music is very fitting, The boat city is strange to me.

music is prob the best part of the game lol, along with the class system ideas.
the mage jobs are strange though, it would be FFXI equivalent of having 2 SCH with slightly different spells, and using the other spell set to complete them.

Im playing FFXIV right now. Currectly Rank37 MRD and 26 PUG and 20 MIN & GOLD. I think besides all the spaming problems, claiming enemys, interface, texted, and lack of content theres really nothing to do in FFXIV right now besides grinding, behest/1hr raids and doing 8 leves every 37hrs.

What the game needs is Chocobos and ways to obtain good equipment which is hard to obatin.
Most of the games Rank50 equipment or any is pretty easy toget from leves and from doing leves and behest you spend alot of anima which is a way to teleport to these Leve locations. Game could also use some solo NMs which give out good gear kinda how Leaping boots was in FFXI. Right now theres 2-3 NMs in FFXIV which you need max level and about 18 players to kill.

Even with those theres a problem with fighting over items since theres no treasure pool in FFXIV. It gives items/equip to party members randomly after defeating a monster.

Right now FFXIV is in a pickle because there fighting to fix FFXIV but at the sametime theres no content beinging made for the game.

I know many diffrent groups work on diffrent things in the game but the content beinging brought out is very small or not worth doinging at best. They added 20-30 quests in the last upate but all rewards iv seen them pump out for rewarding you are all weak items.

I loveee the music. I do feel some of it is a bit out of place. Basically what you pointed out. The synths are a bit much. However most of the music is simply gorgeous. The missions theme song "Answers" with Susan Calloway is ridiculous.

They don't care about the people playing right now, they are using them as beta testers. That's why there is no proper content being made. The push is to make the game good for P3, it's cheaper to get the current 14 playerbase to test it than pay for beta testers.

FFXIV will ultimately be advertised and pushed in Japan, it won't be a success or even really taken seriously anywhere else. FFXIV will ultimately become a JP only game, if that.

It might be a good idea right now b4 May update for FFXI for you to start playing FFXIV because anima takes longtime to recharge back to 100. 4hrs for 1 anima.

Why I say this is right now all you can do really is exp on a class and you wont be doing anything else anyway when you do jump on FFXIV for the first time or contuning. Its still a fun game but gets kinda old after you do samethings over & over again.

The game right now is like Play a week-take a week break-play a week-take a week break repeat and rinse. Thats because of all the recharging and delays you need to wait for to progress. You dont need to wait but be less hassle anyway.

Because the game needs fast travel. Using Anima is like cheating. What FFXV needs is you need ALL the leve locations in the game b4 you can even start chocobo quest to use chocobos.

Chocobos are still used FFXI in terms of fast travel to some locations. Of course you been pampered in using Abyssea teleports.

FFXIV music is kinda werid but I think we been used to hearing FFXI so much so we expect it to be the same. I think because the battles in FFXIV are so fast paced and short you cant even lission to the full song in battle useless you take your time. Some battle songs are like 5-7mins long and battles are like 1min tops.

The Forest outside of Grinndia is far by the worst song in the game. Its more of CS song.

Another thing i dont like is the areas themselfs are so big just for the 1 Area song. I really dont like how they copyed and pasted the game also.

It's hard for me to think of the avatar I play in an mmorpg as a character. They don't have a personality... you're not playing the story to learn more about them or their relationships with others. It's easier to call it a toon because it is animated. I would agree with you in offline FF series that you usually play a character (although it's a bit hard to say that even for the simplest FF games). Yeah there's a story in FFXI and you are the hero of the story but the story is never about your toon.

My personal reasons for not playing XIV mainly just revolve around lack of content and a very crappy battle system. The game is going on it's first year in a few months and it doesn't even have chocobos available. The player base is so low you have to solo 90% of your way to 50, the only decent mobs to solo (Coblyns and Doblyns) get old after the first 2 hours (let alone 2 months of grinding them), and one of the recent updates tripled their HP making the only thing that game has to offer even more painful and boring. It has less then 10 NMs, Weapon skills and spells look pathetic (Almost every single MRD Weapon skill looks exactly the same), the lack of auto attack makes it more of a button mashing fest, whilst at the same time trying to activate your JAs usually has a 3-4 second lag, and by the time you use them all they are already starting to wear off. Synthesis is rather annoying, people claim it's one of the game's best features but I think it's more of a hassle and not very interesting. And of course, lack of an AH makes finding particular weapons and armor somewhat frustrating to find, esp since you can't search specifically for +1 / +2 items in the current function. The game needs a lot of work, I keep my account open since it's free atm anyway, but I rarely ever log on, and when I do, it's usually for no more then 10 minutes because I quickly realize why I stopped playing to begin with.

Edit: Oh and how can I forget, their lack of a search function. They rushed this game like microsoft rushed xbox360, and now they are suffering from this pile of crap, the sad part is, we all know our XI monthly fees are just keeping XIV on life support rather then fund more expansions and content. And once they do fix XIV, they are going to toss XI in a gutter.

Lies! My Character is a Character.

You see, Karbuncle was once a mighty Warrior in the Mithran homeland. however her life was empty as there were no enemies who can stand against her Knife. Eventually she became restless and began looking for new Enemies.

She finally came across a Legendary Sandworm. It was a Sandworm that had said to shoot lightning from its massive mouth, and had taken many from her Village. her goal was To defeat this and claim its teeth as a trophy. However Karbuncle was eventually bested by this beast, and just barely escaped with her life, able to seal the Worm in a sunken cavern beneath the southern deserts.

However the beast was still alive, her confidence shot from not being able to slay the beast, she vowed to redeem herself by becoming the most powerful fighter in the world, as such she set out for Quon continent, after hearing the recent turmoil of the war-torn country from Mithra returning from fighting in the Crystal War.

She then came to land in Bastok, and from that day would train until she is strong enough to defeat the beast that dwells beneath the depth of the southern desert, locked there by her own hand. Her Resolve was resolute.


So yah, Character. Just sayin!

When I think of "fun", I think of mashing 11111111111122111111111 on my keyboard, I don't know about you all. There's something magical about having basic attacks and your DPS being reliant on the repetitive mashing of the num pad. And to encourage this, when you press it too fast, which you also need to do to ensure DPS, you are greeted with an error beep that is most certainly NOT the stuff of nightmares that some perverse developer went out of their way to make as annoying as possible.

Also, having a target-less target system is brilliant. While the people of Vana'diel had to trudge through using the Tab key or the D-Pad to quickly target nearby npcs/mobs and then being able to lock onto them, instead the overjoyed people of Eorzea get a much more random experience.

Oh, and FFXI players have continuously decried the institution of Secure3D, billing errors, and having their accounts banned for disputing legitimate overcharges. There was great hope that the billing system would be greatly improved in FFXIV.... and it was. Now players get to enroll in a payment system based in London that they need to send a written letter along with ID forms to cancel recurring fees. Simply having a subscription based service that a person could simply pay with Visa/MC/Paypal would be downright nonsense.

Also, instead of dealing with the headaches of lush, huge fields ripe with monster and adventure in FFXI, every map in FFXIV looks like it was designed by a novice Dungeons and Dragons DM. Narrow trails make up 90% of every map. Small "glade" areas, slightly larger than the alleyway roads exist, where a dozen or so mobs are available after a short 10-20 minute walk.

Taking a cue from Sarah Palin, players at launch were greeted with a couple dozen "Road to Nowheres". Fancy gates patrolled by NPCs that you could barely or not at all interact with. Where they might have lead, I'll never, but it haunts me sometimes. Also, there are some great looking decrepit buildings in remote areas.. but they're just that. Devoid of any NPCs or anything interesting at all.

And finally, all the bowing, scraping and vows to "regain player trust". You had our trust completely before game's release SE. Our trust didn't matter much when you thought you could push out a content barren alpha product for some advance player fees.

Becuase it sucks. point blank.

I played the beta like many others and graphically, I was blown away by XIV, however, it was the only aspect that worked for me. Absolutely every single other thing in the game drove me nuts. Honestly, what I wanted was essentially FFXI-2, not a completely new vision of a MMO. And with the rehash of the existing characters I honestly thought that's what SE was going to give me.

For what ever reason they chose to create the horribly sluggish interface with its endlessly excessive menus I'll never understand. Navigating multiple menus in XI is slow enough, I expected XIV to be faster, not 10x slower. The horrible software mouse only made things worse. In my opinion the keyboard control system designed for FFXI is quite possibly the most easy to use system I've ever encountered for a MMO. Why SE chose not to replicate it precisely for XIV is beyond me.

And then there was the simple lack of content issue. The intro, while pretty, didn't really grab you at all, you were left with no idea of any semblance of story or plot. While I dislike the false impressions XI's intro gives, it at least sets the mood a little better.

All in all everything that was wrong with XIV, and it was a lot, comes back to my belief that without Sakaguchi, Square-Enix just isn't really a story teller anymore. Every RPG they've made in since 2001 has fallen short of being impressive when compared to the previous entries. The only reason I continue to play FFXI is because I enjoy the community, not because I think the game is of sound quality.

I could say that "it sucks" like others have, but honestly it is not that cut and dry.

I do like FFXIV to be honest, but there are still a few things that need to change before I am willing to go back, and until that happens, I will play FFXI to tie me over.

The crafting needs work, and in turn weapons and armor need work, for me that is really it, other then that, I love FFXIV.

If your going to use vocals in video game music do it like Nier did and use a made-up language.

I am not playing ff14 mainly because my pc cant run it unless it looks worst then ff11 (not sure how that works) the lode times are ungodly long and it feels like no one plays it. I am not sure what was going on but it would not let me zone out of a circle unless i did an event or go to the right spot this is an mmorpg dam it the ideal is to go where you want and do what you want.
