How is asking an LS mate, and looking it up on wiki any different?
You need the wiki and other ffxi info sites in order to even play this game. But I dislike how the community and togetherness this game was originally built on is now gone. The easy thing has been if anyone in your LS even talks it seems the response is... go to the wiki. No one seems to want to even do things as a team or LS or group for a few years now and SE seems to be supporting that kind of culture. Nothing you can do i guess.
Have any of you non-wiki players considered just making conversation? I believe that if I met a guy on the street asking for directions, I would gladly help him. But if I see the same friggin guy looking for directions every day, I'll tell him to go buy a map and piss off.
On the other hand, if he just has some comment about the olympics, the weather or that chick at the bus stops ass... we might actually have a conversation.
just sayin... asking for help is cool, but Elvis helps those that help themselves.
Sorry, you guys are being really rude and elitists. You can't handle the truth that Altana is a melee SMN.
I'm going to join, and secretly answer every question they have... from wiki
That would easily be the derpiest server known to mankind. Good lord I can't even think of the level of derpaherparoo on that thing.
I would play my BRD/WAR tank all day long, while the WHM/WAR in full Seers at 60 kept me alive using Cure I spam because they don't know where to get higher tier scrolls or how to unlock their level cap (or even know there is one). What fun that sounds!
As much as I think the idea of this thread is silly...
I think alot of players by nature can tell some things, like what wouldn't tank, what would be good to heal, the fact that lv50 is the original limit not 60, that there is better gear than seers in NPC shops... but either way, just sayin. :x
This is a server that has players that have never played FF, and there is 0 information on the game outside of it. You know how long it took people to step away from the official guides? Years :(
Seasoned players would be fine, but I didn't even know how to move my character when I first started, and spent 20 mins getting angry at an NPC for being an ignorant high level player unwilling to offer advice, as it walked back and forth passed me (yes this was my first real MMO).
Chains of Promathia, 5.3 "Three Paths"
and Zilart Mission 5 "Headstone Pilgrimage"
Good Luck being trolled by SE. :)
Obviously. People did better without a guide than they did with Bradley's. That thing was full of extreme derp.
Who knows! The server might be the most brilliant of them all! People will be forced to figure everything out on their own, therefore they may actually try things we the playerbase haven't yet because wiki told us "lol no".
Maybe that WHM/WAR combo we laughed at so hard in the Bradley strategy guide was the secret combination to making Absolute Virtue fall to its knees and beg for mercy! And theAmishnon-wiki playerbase will be the one to find it! Unfortunately we'll never know of these rare findings because they don't believe in sharing such information with the rest of the playerbase...
Actually FFXI promotes theorycrafting more than any other MMo I have played, purely for the fact you can change your job and sub job and have to focus on one single character.
I often go out with crazy job combos to see how effective it is. WHM/WAR is not bad at 99, but kind of useless :)
Modern MMO: All right, <Player>. We have a dire situation here. Go talk to Maudlin Irontoes in the Dwarven District of Stormwind to find out what we can do about the price of ale in Elwynn Forest. He'll be standing there with a giant yellow question mark over his head. You can't miss him, and if you somehow manage to, check your map and you'll see his position marked for you with a similar mark. You know what, just for the hell of it, keep the quest highlighted and a magic arrow will point you in the right direction.
FFXI: <Player>, Promathia is going to destroy the world and all your friends have scattered to parts unknown! Well, good luck with that!
LMAO. So true.
I bet some guy went "If we don't give them direction, they will talk to all the NPcs and learn about all the other amazing quests and missions we have made for them! :)"
Then some other guy said "brilliant! That could never go wrong! Let's go eat some paint and celebrate!"
Day 90:
OH MY GOD GUYS DID YOU KNOW WHAT F8 DOES? THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING!
That reminds me of when I first started playing and didn't know how to /heal, so whenever my hp got low I ran back to my mog house - did this for almost 2 weeks before someone found it in their heart to enlighten me lol.
....not to mention trying to target stuff with the mouse cursor of all things.... lmao
This is just sad lol.
/grins Oh it was such a big big world... north gustaburg, (game started in port for my poor bastokian taru) I managed to get so lost. deathga from birds, murdered by quadav, ran in circles thinking it helped dodge, it took forever to get to level 10. (finally managed to get to bastok markets @ day 2.) vomp hil, droping beastmen seals becuase they took up too much space.
(see this this was for you)
waiting forever to learn a spell, wondering where I could buy a "pheonix down". O the days of being new. /em shudders
It was a "wonder" how anyone could know so much about so much and what have you, I still don't know enough to willingly help someone without looking at the wiki/ bg etc. prior to making sure the mission is flagged by the person wanting to do it .. /facepalm lol yeah wiki is gooooood.
I got to page 6 and gave up... basically threads like this is why the dev's can never answer serious posts, they have to read through this CRAP.
Alla's advanced search (premium member feature, initially, not sure if it still is) is nearly identical to somepage's at this point, though it's not perfect, since it separates shit like "enhances double attack effect" and "double attack", but it does include food/meds in searches for stats that don't specify a slot, or specify the "inventory" slot. Just sayin'
This is a beautiful analogy that caused me to laugh for about 5 minutes.
It's funny because bards actually used to tank Faf/hogg way back in the day, before SE nerfed mazurka's enmity generation. Marzurka spam gave some serious enmity build up, and brd does have access to a good bit of melee gear, and by extent, gear to add survivability (in those days, we're talking osode/genboob's kabuto/etc)
I'll never understand why in the world people don't change the default posts/page from 10. 10 posts/page is just stupid, and only causes unnecessary pagecount inflation. 40 posts/page is so much cleaner.
I beat my wife and kids relentlessly before I found out about wiki. Please don't force me to resort to domestics again. The kids can take a punch, but the wife has a glass jaw and the hospital bills are astronomical.
This is either the dumbest idea ever or a very good troll topic. Either way there are plenty of clueless people that play without the help of wiki. You could easily shout on whichever server you're on and have a full LS in no time.
Just make sure if they have good gear and Empys/Relics/Mythics you kick them quickly because they obviously use wiki. Don't want them poisoning the bunch!
Congratulations are in order. you reached level 56 RDM w/o any help! I found a new hero~
Probably deleveled while running around trying to do LB3 - without looking it up on wiki, of course!
