I do believe you win the internet for making so much sense, that I'm going to fall asleep now. (this is not sarcasm)

I've tried to get my girl friend on the PC for so long. Her PC is quite capable of running the game, and it's only like $5-10 on steam. But she refuses. Why? Because she wants to type with a controller. That's girls for ya. Oh well. I'll see if I can get her on the 360 when she moves in with me in the next couple months. >_>
Dropping PS2 support due to ram limitations is pretty much required in order to keep adding content to the game at this point. Xbox 360 version is full of bugs, alot of these bugs arnt the cause of SEs lack of attempting to fix them, but Microsoft themselves and the way the 360 functions. If I'm right, M$ will not assist SE in fixing said bugs. As a PS2 player, i would prefer to play on a console, but with the issues of the 360 version i cannot. The same goes for my GF who uses my old PS2 while i use my PS3. After attmepting to fix her 360 several times only to have another bug freeze the game hence making it impossible to shut off properly and thus unable to run due to the bug that makes the disc unreadable, I've given up hope for playing the game on the 360. However I would be willing to upgrade if it were in the best interest of the game.
No. It's it's Ferrari vs hybrid, while sitting in bumper to bumper traffic. Yes the ferrari is faster, but it doesn't really matter, because you're not going anywhere anyway.
I used a keyboard for about 5 years, then started using a controller from time to time, because it was more comfortable. I probably used the controller about 75% of the time. While yes, obviously keyboard is a fair bit fastre, it really doesn't matter at all, because by the time you can actually do anything, a person using a controller will already have selected their next macro and be ready to use it, as soon as their previous action finishes.
Just play a music file, and it'll start right up. Don't ask me why, it just works.Quote:

who in there right mind would play this game with a controller. Why are we comparing the ease of the game with its controls when they are exactly the same. When i play on my PS2, i use a logitech mini keyboard that actually came as a giant controller with a mini keyboard in the center of it, in which, idk where the big controller went, i just have the mini keyboard. Point is, if ur playing with controller to begin with, then u fail, plug a keyboard to ur PS2 or XBOX and throw that stupid controller away, its useless and nothing is faster than keyboard macros ALT+Number or CNTRL+number, BAM ALT-E equip screen open, BAM ALT-i inventory open, ALT-J right to my job abilities, u get the picture here, everything can be done instantaneously on the keyboard, and not 1-2 menus away.
And if you dont play with compact settings then you just really really fail, the most comfortable position is the WASD movement, standard to all people who are familiar with FPS games, and most games that utilize movement for PC games
oh i forgot, all melee casts spells too, darn, sorry. Actually the flow of battle isnt where most of the speed is required, but saving your friends is.
Being able to access a spell via alt or cntrl number command and push the corisponding F1-F6 to them is very very fast compared to a controller. Initiating combat is much faster when your mage friend got agroed and is getting his faced kicked in while you press the R1 target button to get to the mob thats hitting him only to press it too many times and have to cycle through everything again, where as a keyboard, BAM F8 auto target closest agroed mob, and BAM ALT-A to initiate combat, and u can save ur buddy. All in all in terms of battle speed, nah, keyboard makes no difference, but saving peoples butts, and initiating combat as quick as possible is where its all at.
Next time ur low lvl friend gets agro and u fail to target the mob killing him, u wish u had a keyboard!!!
If they wanted to update the game they could of added a massive update which was ps3/xbox/pc only, people will upgrade if there is a good reason to.
Square decided people would not do this or it wasn't worth the effort then released another MMO and expected people to still buy a new platform to play it. Duh?
The 360 is the worst version of the game. The bright text that irritates the eyes, that split second delay in controller input reaction, not to mention how terrible the 360 controller is for this game, the manual adjust you have to do in the Xbox settings for screen res. and the lag. PS2 doesn't suffer any of those.
If you play on 360 I can tell you, you're not playing to your full potential.
I own all. PS3 yes. Xbox can be retired for this game and it would be no loss.
The crappiest part about all this is that FFXI was released exclusively for PC. That's the way it was, that's the way it should always have been.
Everyone arguing over the control scheme of xbox 360 controller vs. keyboard is wrong :/ I use both, just a fluidly as the other. Stupid argument is stupid. If anything, using BOTH simultaneously is the fastest as you can que up the next macro in non-dire situations with the 360 controller and switch to the keyboard (if you really feel that's better) during dire situations. I absolutely hate ASWD controls, i'd much rather being using my left hand for macros and my right hand on the numpad to move.
I'm going to at least say what I think of keyboard vs controller, because I've made the decision to buy a gamepad. I was originally a PS2 player, and with the PS2 limiting the game, and I sold my PS2 anyway, it was going to be more to of a hassle to play on the PS2 than it would on the PC or XBox. I don't own an XBox360, and I have a pretty good computer for my Photoshop skills. All I really needed to buy was the game, for 10 measly bucks.
Loaded up, started playing the game, and went with the keyboard as my controller. Maybe it was my comfort level of being on the PS2 version so long, but the keyboard controls suuucked. I even went to configure different keys to different controls, and was getting better at it, but it was still a pain. So I went to Best Buy and found the only gamepad sitting on the shelf for $19.99. Set up the controller, and I will seriously switch back and forth between the two controls due to some lag from the gamepad after I switch windows on the PC, but I mainly use the gamepad.
I restarted playing early Feb 2011. Every PS2 player should follow my lead. If you have a computer that can run FFXI, spend $30.00 to get the game played there. If you don't have a computer up to snuff, put some money aside and get one. You'll do yourself a favor by upgrading in more ways than just for FFXI.
I never had any trouble stun claiming NM's with my BLM using a original PS2 controller via a $5 USB converter I found on clearance at Wally world...actually got GM's called on me a few times. And movement/camera angle adjustment is just more intuitive with the dual analogs.
The trick is having things set up right for you. Stun, Drain, Sleep, etc. are on the edges of my macro banks and spells go down in pirority so I am almost always just one macro away from the critical ones. Always worked for me. And worst case scenario, if I'm not able to claim fast enough, I could just reach 1 foot away to my trusty trackball to click-target and hit the CTRL/ALT combo to fire off macros.
But... ultimately, it comes down to personal taste I guess.

SE is basically used up the majority of the space on the PS2 hard drive partition. They can't make it bigger just by the way the PS2 file system was designed. Its so full they have to download 1 file at a time install it delete the temp file. Soon there will be no room. Their choice is this, no new updates, shut down FFXI, or drop PS2 support and continue to have updates.
But with the majority of Japanese players still using PS2 I do not think they would do that.
Really never had an issue saving a player from dieing with a controller or a keyboard sounds like a personal issue. I've moved to pc becuase ive been on both ps2 and xbox360 find it way better for pc and using a controller for it that me though. Alway's hearing the Ps2 limitation issue tell's me that they need to eventually drop support for ps2 to make way for improvement of the game.
im really starting to think im losing brain cells reading these forums
Think before you post. It is the fastest on the grounds that you are still using the keyboard...like you said, "the fastest way". I completely fail to see where your problem with my post is. It is still the fastest, they both are...cause they're the same thing? My solution is infinitely better, because you can also use the comfort and macro stacking on a controller to boot, which you agreed with, confusing me further.
OK guys its a sad thing what happened to japan but thats not the discussion of this post . . . .and another thing who cares how many times you guys seen the post stop crying and just talk about it the more post that SE sees of the same topic the more likely they will do something about it so stfu lol.
lol tsukino XDDDDD
FFXI DEV Please listen! SE needs to make a PS3 port! Put it on Playstation Network and slap a 5~7 dollar price tag on it. Also, do not use the PS2 version. Instead use the XBOX 360 version port but fix Besieged and Campaign. The freezing issue is "Impossible to gauge!" SE has already done this with FFXI for PC via Steam, why oh why can we not have one for PS3? Thanks ~~ Cupofnoodles of Asura
I wish cup i read an interview with them in a game informer saying there is no way there will be a ps3 port because the producer or w/e said they would have to re do the whole code and graphics etc . . . . so it would take 1-2 years to get it out on ps3 . . . . . which is stuiped D:<
ps3 port. Impossible. Half-Serious reason? ps2 limitations (had to say it).
Actually your wrong Zyeriis they even said making it for ps3 would be like making a whole new game . . . Not because ps2 limitation just because the time it would take to actually make it for ps3 . . . . 1-2 years lol
You misunderstand. The code itself, must also work with the ps2. Thus is it part of the problem. My post was mostly a joke however.
