In economic systems, k (lowercase) represents "n x1,000"; M (uppercase) represents "n x1,000,000; B (uppercase) represents "n x1,000,000,000"; G (uppercase) represents "n x1,000,000,000,000"; and so on.
This is different than scientific quantities and should not be used interchangeably.
