Cid's Teeth

i think lilisette should be added as a DLC charachter for duodeciem >_> she would be freaking AMAZING to play as >_>

Ok for the record Cid's teeth was badly damaged by Orcish beastmen in the last great war. Gvodibandod Teethdegrader used some forbidden methane gass bombs that reduced Cid's teeth to nothing. And now hes using special alchemist guild created floating dentures that protrude from his mouth.

Sounds legit

Since moving back to San d'Oria I've been able to have a few chats with our local specialist of biology and wildlife, Atelloune, who let me look upon some of the research done by her mentor, Professor Chanoix. Upon viewing these documents I found something quite interesting.

Behold, the marid. I'm sure most of you have seen these before lumbering about in Bhaflau Thickets or Wajaom Woodlands, though I doubt any of you have gotten close enough to notice these:

These are the teeth of an adult female marid. Let me line it up with another picture for comparison. (just don't ask me how I got it)

Could Cid's teeth be modified marid dentures? It's not completely out of the question. Bastok has been known to have trade connections with Aht Urghan, and especially with the presence of the Tenshodo, such a thing wouldn't seem so preposterous.

But whether they are marid molars or not, one thing is for certain.

They sure are creepy.

As a taru and starting out in Bastok, I have to admit, Cid was both awesome, and yet horrifying because of the rip in his pants that always greeted me.

i just noticed last night that all the beetles have one backwards foot. the toes on their right foreleg point inward toward the body and on every other foot they point away. dunno if that was intentional for square-enix.

I TOTALLY agree with everything said in this thread. Cid's character design is distracting, and personally it creeped me out during the CoP missions. His jaw is dislocated, and his pants are split in a way that whenever he walks we get a full screen of major wedgie. Easy fix for SE, please!!

The hole in his pants is the gateway to oblivion. Gaze upon it in horror, knowing the true intentions of his creators. The portal to oblivion caused all tragedies that have befallen the once peaceful world of Vana' Diel. His teeth are but a reminder of our mortal coils tethering us to this world. The fear you have is warranted, for with those teeth, he can crush your immortal soul. Pray to the dawn goddess, Altana, that your soul may remain intact after the visit with Promathia's apparition of terror.

OMG you are so right, this is one thing in the game that i try to avoid. *crosses fingers* she will not have too many more cs's with him!

I agree that the safest option for any new adventurer not wanting to lose their sense of security at the sight of his mandibles would be to take said mandibles and shove them up his never-ending arse, patching it up afterwards, but at the same time...

Have you guys thought about what it'll be like without Cid's teeth and pants? Just a long-talked about legend that will eventually be questioned as to its credibility after many Vana'Dielian years pass - something future generations to come will only hear of briefly and never be able to relate to us over.


TLDR;

If this is fixed, I might miss the familiarity of being terrified of poor Cid's "flaws"...

I roared laughing at this thread. Cid's teeth are undeniably the scariest thing in Van a'Diel. Maybe he used wooden parts from his airship to fashion them, who knows. Metalworks needs to have a Dentist's Office......or a movie set, those teeth would make a great horror movie!

Na they aren't babies. See Cid's mouth is like a sharks, or a Goobues, the teeth grow back when lost. Each weekend his assistant helps harvest his mighty choppers to make airship parts with.

His mouth always resembled a nutcracker doll, to me. I ma more horrified by the split in hie pants... So many close-ups /shudder. Please, SE, have him invest in some underwear.

Explains how he got that airship together so fast in CoP to fly you to Al'Taeiu. *shivers and is scarred for life*

On a more serious note, if they do alter cids mouth (face model), I want a Holloween mask helmet that makes me look like I have cid's head and his old mouth when the next Halloween event comes around. It'd be perfect for scaring taru children off my mog house porch while threatening to make tarukabobs.

Cid has a split in his crotch too.

Been like that for years. Cockatrices have one broken toe too and orobons have a glitch in their teeth where a few vertices in the geometry is attached to the wrong part of the model's skeleton. One of Fenrir's eyes also has a similar glitch.

I think I figured out where Cid's teeth came from. He stole them from Volker, who has no teeth.

TL;DR

Maybe they were drawing inspiration from his FF4 iteration?

Ne'er really had an issue with the teeth per se~ but it was always rather un-settling how they would disappear and appear again while he is talking.
