there is a risk involved in reworking XI. XIV was rushed and look at what happened. They are coming out with a test server for us players. They could use that server to test radical changes like graphics, new quest mechanics, etc.

I don't think FFXI needs FFXIV's graphic because anyone who has played FFXIV knows the game doesn't run as smoothly as FFXI in many ways. Though I could see FFXI getting an HD make over that would look exactly like this:

In an Interview with Tanaka he said that the tech demo codenamed "Rapture" (that ended up becoming FFXIV using the crystal tools engine) was the product of him asking the devs to make an "HD FFXI" so that is exactly what this 2005 screen shot is.
I find it similar to the new 3DS remake of Ocarina of Time, redux models/textures and areas with "more stuff".
I like what EQ/EQII did with their graphical updates. They insanely overhauled the graphics to the point that even super computers will have a hard time playing EQII with everything turned all the way up.
BUT, they made ever last bit of those tweakable to make sure that any computer can run them if you turn the graphics down enough (and the low graphics aren't worse than the originals). It's very easy for you to alter ever last bit of it until it's maximized for your particular computer.
However I doubt that's possible with the lolps2.
