Uhhhhh yeah you can. THey're both MMOs. They're both RPGs. THey're both Final Fantasy games. They're both made by SE.
If you want to talk about comparing how successful they are, you need to take into account a lot of factors, sure, but that doesn't make it impossible, it just means a little effort will be required.
If they focused on making everything pretty and decided not to fix these NPC freeze-ups and blackouts I bet you'd quit within a week.
You know they already have high detail character models for FFXI, they are used in the character creation screen. Why can't we use those in the actual game on the PC version?
I'd be satisfied with the same models in a better graphics engine. Better shading, lighting, reflections, a bit of HDR, and better texture filtering. That would get us a long way.
I'm also not sure if the character creation models are compatible with all the gear models we have in the game. They might have to redo a lot of equipment to make it work.
I don't have a problem with FFXI's graphics. Sure it'd be nice if they did some quality enhancement, but I'm sure that would introduce problems for the PS2. For a game from 2001, FFXI has aged incredibly well.
e. The idea of copy/pasting the character creation models is kind of sort-sighted. What about everything else? Unique NPC's, monsters, environments, architecture, etc... the game would look horrendous with random high quality characters. It would have to be an evenly distributed overhaul.
Could use some DX10 lighting and shaders. They wouldn't even have to touch the models or textures. They're already highly stylized and artistic as it is.
