They've already mentioned the Thief's Knife getting an "upgrade." And if you check the notes here: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/th...334#post497334
They're adding a Cap to the TH that can be added from equipment, which means that TH+ items are more than likely within the next couple of months.
But Personally, I'd rather upgrade something I already have and clear/keep my inventory space equal to what I have now, rather than add more to the mix. Upgrade the Evoker's Ring, Upgrade the Yinyang Robe. But that's just me... perhaps...
I did read that post about Pet: TH , and there was nothing to assume. It was blatantly stated that we would be able to enhance Pet: TH through gear. There was no way to misunderstand it. Now I don't blame Camate for what he said. He goes by what the devs tell him. I think the devs just changed their minds and tried to sweep their previous statement under the rug. Thankfully the power of the internet makes that impossible.
ANYWAY, back on topic. Being able to upgrade older weapons sounds pretty nice to me. Before it was released, I thought that's what the Magian system would consist of. It's still a good idea.
K club is a piece of gear that needs to stay a purely trophy item and left to rot. As for upgrading old gear as long as it is just as good and not better then new gear all for it. I personally hate "upgrading" old gear it just come off as lazy in game development. The costume system(sure codie Os is getting in the way of a proper one) would be a better way to fix the problem of people not looking like everyone else or simply having more then one gear set with the same stats and are the same difficulty in obtaining.
I can see what you mean about upgrading old gear can come across as a lazy dev approach, but also there is the nostalgia factor when a game has been around for over a decade. I have weapons in my MH I farmed back in 04~ and some weapons I used for five years almost every day. For me this has made me very nostalgic about certain weapons, they carry a lot of memories dating back a whole decade of my life. I would love to be able to use at least one of them in the iLvl era, alongside the new skirmish+2 weaps etc.
Obviously if SE have decided that this is not the direction for them, I can totally respect that decision, as I will go with any decisions they make as long as the game is popular enough to still be available online. I am still working on my relics, mythic etc. but I would love to upgrade my "Concordia" to the same level as the lolsparks sword, for example. Or my "Heart-snatcher", nostalgia overload lol.
yeah it sucks that can't change look of weapons with the costume system. Most of my weapons are uggggly these days.
Also sick of how they reuse models, not that they are reusing them but the ones they are reusing. Really so sick of the Ice lance model and the mezq model they have been using since 64 ish(what ever level the drk mezq is for drg). While V.fork gets left to rot on out dated lances. Drg is not the only job to suffer from this though just the one that sticks out in my mind. Again if only SE could untangle the mess of code they have the costume system would be a great addition to the game instead of a close but no cigar, that basically does what a third party tool would do better.
I would love to see implementation of "+ (x) skill" on a lot of older items that have since lost their use in the newer content where accuracy is a huge concern. Kraken club for example is an extremely niche weapon and just is purely a trophy item these days, it would be nice to see a way to make a 80M item actually usable again in new content. It would also make the weapon more valuable as the item would become un-tradeable. The people who want to spend 80m + (x) hours upgrading it and making it a permanently held item for his/her
Character.
Also older rare/ex items that people worked hard to obtain, they'll put the time into it to make them on par with current gear.
