Look at how this system is abused on Allakhazam to see why it's a bad idea. On paper it looks like a great idea but in practice it's terrible.

Its a bad idea, More times than not people will rate "dislike"/"Like" Simply based on rather or not they like you. FFXIAH's system and Ala's System is proof of this.
Some people will be "Liked" Simply because they're a familiar name, right or wrong, This could be very misleading to a new player who would use the like system looking for advice.
It'll pretty much degrade into a High-school popularity contest that it is on Ala/FFXIAH. Where the right and good Information can be rated down simply because the person is not popular amongst the website users, and those who are wrong are liked because they walk on glass trying not to upset anyone to become popular, rather they know what they're talking about or not.
But I can't knock it until its been implemented, Maybe it'll be different here =x?
BADDD idea i get down rated all the time by the user name i use on other ffxi forums just because one of the members in the LS don't like who i am but because he has a hard on for being a moron he down rates my post no matter what i do or say and this can be a real ego fest for some people and they will just do it for their ego or against people they don't like....
They say why fix something if it isn't broken
I don't see the harm in a like button. It works well enough on facebook and guildwork. It allows people to show support for ideas without the popularity contest of a rate up rate down system. It will still be pretty arbitrary in terms of what gets liked but at least it will save people from posting with a quote of what other people said and then saying 'This.' OK actually they'll probably still do that lol.
Please see they're adding in LIKE and not DISLIKE. So its good :D
the like button as a measure of player response is a mediocre effort at most. The reason is that it is usually the unhappy that respond to anything; those happy with the status quo tend to be silent. if you can keep that in mind, then it can see some use.
so long as it is for the original post so it is a vote for the idea, I think it holds a lot of merit. Most of the problems everone is presenting as a con are related to systems that allow you to rate individual posts (and by proxy the user). Voting like/dislike for the THREAD (ie, the original post) is a nice compromise.
