The people who come up with conetsts are different people than the ones who provide tech support. It's highly unlikely they owuld have known in the first place.

The stuff you're *supposed* to read when you sign up both for a POL acount and for an SE account tells you this. Unfortunately it seems like incidents like this are the only way to get people to read the legalese.

It's unfortunate, but like Alhanelem mentioned, it's them rules.

It would probably be a good idea if they could somehow allow limited separation, or re-assigning of PlayOnline accounts. I am sure many people living together went for one account without knowing better.
It did also 'screw over' the people who pay for multiple POL accounts, but went for one SqEX account for convenience, and/or didn't think of the possible restrictions that would follow.

Personally though, I would still enter with just one account for events like screenshots or what have you, but when it's something akin to the Bonanza, I think I would want to enter with all. I don't think I would bother with separating mine, though, even if it became possible. I have a feeling it wont, since there are reasons to why it isn't possible in the first place.
