As long as I some new things sprinkled here and there (not just old content renewals), I'll probably still be playing, but it also depends on how FFXIV 2.0 turns out.

Honestly the only things that are keeping my attention at this moment are perfecting WAR in every situation, and dreaming about Ryunohige if Nyzul makes Alexandrite remotely feasible.
Almost done with WAR too.
Noone will be playing after December 21, 2012.
I'll probably be playing this into 2013, and until they unplug the servers, even if they don't add more content.....which will probably hasten the plug-pull. I still have fun with this game, and there is a lot of stuff i am doing (especially since i never really did the egls endless grind thing), and a helluvalot more stuff i can and will do when i get around to it.
If you've done all you want to do, seen all you wanted to see, and have noone around to keep you interested in this game, well i guess it's time to quit.
There was a post by one of the DEV's moogle friends in another thread saying that they understood players wanted new content and that they were gonna do there best down the road to provide it, but they they needed to explore stuff like ps2 limitations and stuff, but they are well aware of it and the post sounded really postitve that they will brew up something in the future for us we just need be patient.
However, it better have harder content if it's gonna be considered 99endgame, I get that theres new content to make things more casual and I'm ok with that but just dont leave the hardcore gamer out in the cold while you at it SE.
PS- by new content they were talking about entirely new zones too, not just reskins. They are well aware of wht the people want and are trying to give it us. As long as people keep playing, we will get what we want.
The thing missing for me, and the people I play with left over from the HNM scene is competition. I like most of the changes since 76+ except the complete removal of anything competitive. I enjoy Voidwatch, in the same way that I did abyssea b4 we learned the stagger system inside, and out. Looking forward to new tiers of it. New fluxes in WoE, and the revamp for the ToaU areas.
I hope that they roll out new 99 HNM's ala DI, and SW. Somethings with some screwy spawn times, and/or conditions to make those fights feel spontaneous. The competition between shells is sorely missed. As much fun as voidwatch is the event is missing that element of sportsmanship, and that feeling you only get from competing with a rival group. Vs comparing yourself to just the group you're doing an instanced event with.
A revamp, and relocation of PvP in a hub (WG plz!) would be fantastic as well. It would go a long way toward being diversionary, and stretching out content. Instead of everyone hungrily devouring, and beating new content to death a revamped centralized PvP experience would allow people a vacation from the grind. Whether they just love PvP, or they wanted to see some new techniques, or for the people who are capped out on the few jobs they specialize in. The ones who like their 4-5 jobs, and have no interest in leveling or gearing anything beyond those.
I understand the Development team has had, and will have their hands full for some time yet getting us to 99, and the nightmare of balancing all that once we cap. So I'm being patient. However w/o any competitive angles being reintroduced into the mix I'm not sure I will make it past the 2012 mark.
I only get on to help people get empy and +2 items. The game has long since ran out of content that's worth the time to do for myself personally. I've yet to see a quality update since abyssea. I'm personally just helping a few more people get empy weapons in my LS since a few of those seem to be having fun - then I'm seriously going to think about cancelling my account.
