I thought the servers come up in 11 hours... 7 am EST
I think you missed most of my post, if you think there's no way a company could be prepared for this... Should I support my stand more?

There's no reason for a company, that makes millions of dollars per month and has been established for years, to not have a disaster-recovery plan. That's my professional opinion, and I believe that most professionals in the IT industry would agree.
Oh ya definately! just making sure I had the time right :D
^ to Raist's post :D
The RELIABLE low latency solutions required to support the real-time replication on the scale of both the FFXI and FFXIV projects were not even available until recent years--Infineta released theirs in 2010 I think, and that carries a HARDWARE cost of upwards of 250k per cluster you upgrade just to run the software. I and others have already looked at this extensively for the arguments in other threads.
Again, this has been debated to death in other threads... please stop. If you want to start up the debate again, please search the forum for threads on the topic and post there.
This is NOT the place for it.
And again, I counter with... other companies are up... Are you honestly still suggesting that disaster recovery is out of the question? You do realize how fast fiber optic lines are, right? 500k+ users isn't very much, and having them spread out over 30 machines makes it even easier to handle the load... Have you ever considered how many people use Google, Yahoo, or Microsoft? Do you think they would go down for a week and a half, had the same thing happened at their primary site?
Stop defending the situation when there is really no excuse for it... other than greed... There's not a financial, technical, or otherwise-understandable excuse for the extreme amount of downtime...
SE isn't solely responsible to you, like all of us it's also responsible to the community in which it operates and to me shutting down the servers voluntarily & at cost to the company was very responsible & for the devastating scale of the disaster only being off-line for ~12 days seems more than reasonable to me. They've rightly waived your fees & kept us pretty well up to date -though of course we all would've liked daily updates because each day without FF stings like a snake bite. They're donating 1mil yen to the disaster relief fund & amidst trying to get their own house in order they've found time to put together fund raising projects across multiple platforms to help the community. To my outside opinion they seem to be fulfilling their obligations to all their stake holders pretty well.
Don't forget FF isn't a hospital or a school it's a game service SE sells you & just like your local supermarket that doesn't stock your favourite brand of peanut butter one month they're not obligated to sell it to you. You wouldn't start protesting outside your local store if they stopped selling your peanut butter for no reason, complaining “but they're a multi million dollar company they should sell my peanut butter!” So why are you complaining about SE suspending a game when they have a very good reason? Also SE does more than just FF XI & XIV both projects I'm sure would only be allocated a limited amount of SE resources.
Sure SE isn't just their servers just like your life isn't just your house but you have your neighbourhood levelled then see how many dinner parties you throw that week. If my friends came around while I was trying to help put my neighbourhood back together demanding dinner & drinks I'd tell them to either pick up a shovel & help out or gtfo of my rubble!
Why don't you use the time you spend lamenting your brief lose of FF doing something constructive to help the real victims of this terrible tragedy? Contact your local Red Cross I'm sure they can suggest something to fill up those hours of boredom.

Please donate if you can or contact your local Red Cross & ask how you can help.^^
you are clearly a troll that is just trying to stir up crap, please leave, like RAIST said we have discussed this to hell and back, and again and again....... No company would have been prepaired for that kind of disaster, and I am sorry but they did have recovery plans, but their community was more important, as it should be.
we where out of access of a GAME for roughly a week and a half, boo friken hoo

Forum search is a wonderful thing. This is just one of the many threads where ALL of this has been researched/debated until our eyes bled.
Please, no more feeding this troll... one post already reported.
They said it would be down a week, and posted an update 9 days later >.>
They're donating 1 mil yen, but can't afford disaster recovery? Strange...
If my local supermarket gets hit by an earthquake, I can travel to another one... I don't have to do without for a week and a half...
If I made enough in one month to pay for a house in another country and I could live there temporarily without losing my paycheck, I would pay to have the house rebuilt while relaxing in my other house.
While it is certainly tragic, SE could have had servers up in another country while their primary servers were down in Japan (and thus still conserving power and helping out their community). As for helping out, I see that you are spending way more time here than I... Perhaps the community would be better served if you got a shovel, especially since you're protecting the interests of the company making the profits, rather than the interests of the stakeholders that are paying for the product. ;)

Unfortunately, this forum does not have a Private Messaging feature, so I am going to have to publicly ask you once more to please not troll this thread. There are plenty of other threads debating this issue. Again, I point you to the search feature. Search on a terms like Disaster Recovery Plan, Backup Plan, or even just Data Replication and I assure you, you will find more appropriate threads for these debates.
That's your last handful of peanuts. Please, everyone-no more feeding the troll.
