Raist your back! ... I do have to say i agree, giving all i have read i have a whole new respect for all of japan... not just b/c of the servers coming back on and the sacrafice nec to do so... but b/c of how they have dealt with everything. I cannot say i would have been able to do the same. I hope in the end this will not cause further distress just so we can play. I will show full support for further adjustments and am excited to continue with ffxi for a long time to come. thankyou everyone at SE.
That's good news! I say this because it would mean that electricity would be somewhat stable at least. It may not be fully but at least it's a start! I've been watching the news from TEPCO's website about the Daichi reactors and knew they were slowly getting things back (with outside power) I just didn't think it'd be this quick. Certainly some good news. :)

thankyou SE but isnt it snowing out there why would they have A/C on anyway lol
TBH SE thtas amazing that you guys are trying everythign possible to get our game bk online even with everything that has happened, i was expecting atleast 1-2month being down idc how long is sad whats going on over there
To our friends and moderators at SE:
In response to the general opinion on this forum as well as several others in regaurds to the current situation in Japan would it be possible to build an "opt-in" button" on the POL or FFX main screen to donate the waived April billing fees to the Red Cross or Other humanitarian organization currently helping in Japan. Thus making a one time mass contribution from your customer/fan base shortly after your servers come back online.
Greetings from Carbuncle! Let me just say I returned to FFXI after taking a couple month break from the game. I am a veteran player and left and returned with bitter-sweet feelings. I enjoyed my time off but, but missed my friends and the COMMUNITY feeling that SE has provided us with in playing the game WE choose to pay for. If you aren't happy with their decision, BOYCOTT them then. To the people at SE, I hate abyssea, I think it ruined this game, but please take care of yourselves and families and don't rush anything on behalf of some of the idiot americans I'm sorry to have to share this country with. So to all of you selfish, simple-minded fools, I hope SE decides to cut service till June just to give you all time to seek the professional help you need. It is disgusting to see players of a game that relies on teamwork and community to show such childish behavior. It is disappointing to see what I thought seperated us from WoW players seems to be a bunch of BS.
Wow thank you SE. No AC and your still in your offices never heard of anyone doing that.
Let me also add, I took some advice from a couple fellow posters on here and contributed my April monthly fee to the American Red Cross for the disaster relief effort. Exe, you a good guy and had a great suggestion with your "opt-in" idea. I encourage other players to show what kind of community we really are and help Japan move past this and continue to prosper and create the games we love to play.
thank you SquareEnix for sacrificing your own comfort in the Tokyo offices to be able to bring the FF online severs back up! I always thought you were the best game developer and this confirms it! Good luck and love to all in Japan!
Just imagine how many computers are running in that building. Everyone working there has at least one, and they're on constantly for them to do their jobs. Printers, scanners, copiers, and all other electronics too.
Electronics generate heat. In office buildings with that much tech running, you generally keep AC on almost constantly to keep it all cooled.
Even if it is snowing outside, they'll be a bit on the warm side inside in certain spots.
why does FFXIV's forum say 4pm and FFXI's say 4am? :9
@ Vokl:I know it's easier to quote me and see a flaw in me challenging our spirit of community. I am not judging you, you are judging me friend. If you are offended in what I say then perhaps you should re-read what you actually posted. I challenge people to think and my comments were simply to have them question their own selfish priorities. One player on a later post was commended by me for sharing that same idea of community, to help prove me wrong....so prove me wrong bud. Make a donation to a charity to support Japan with the 12 bucks or w/e SE is saving you instead of attacking me for trying to send a positive message to people with entitlement issues they have. If you are showing sympathy for Japan, then I wasn't talking about you in the first place bud.
i've personaly donated my aprils FFXI payment and lots more. I love the community of this game, played it since PS2 NA beta. And it's the one thing i've seen slip into nothingness in the recent years. Kudos Thiront!
Four years ago we wouldn't even be debating this lmao! People would just enjoy the break and kick some money to Japan to lend a helping hand. Unfortunately most of them quit and now the people we have brag about level 90 jobs they leveled AFK in abyssea so I'll let you figure out my point XD. And Haglaz, me too bro, I started the same time you did, thanks for showing me that there is still hope left!
There was just another quake in Ibaraki-ken.
getting the impression that the power supply may be improving soon. Latest overview of TEPCO's sites:
http://www.tepco.co.jp/en/press/corp...1032218-e.html
If some of these sites that are down for inspection/repairs can come back on soon, things will be looking better.
Lol SE squinting & sweating for their players! Thanks guys & thanks for the update I'm glad to see things are improving enough for services to resume. My thoughts & best wishes to you & to all of Japan for a quick & full recovery.Quote:
We have shut down our air conditioning system (8.8%) and enacted other power conservation measures, such as reducing lighting in our offices, to achieve over 10% in energy usage reductions. With these energy saving measures in place, we will be able to bring our servers back online and restore service to FINAL FANTASY XIV, FINAL FANTASY XI, and PlayOnline on Mar. 25, 2011 11:00 (GMT).

Please donate if you can^^
You guys need to stop having earthquakes! I know it seems kinda tough but lets get you all fixed up instead!
We at FFXIclopedia also have an IRC chat network with many users, you can simply point your favorite IRC program to irc://irc.ffochat.com
Popular IRC clients include mIRC, chatzilla (just google 'em) and many others. www.mibbit.com provides a web-based IRC client, but using a dedicated application is ideal and gives you a lot more options. There are people online at all hours of the day. Come chat with us! :D
Damn, that was a tough call. Personally, I would rather for you guys (SE) to get some sort of stability first. Besides having to conserve power by cutting backing on things, including the usage of the A/C, there is a possibility that the servers may go down again. Well, I hope this idea was well planned. Not saying the servers should stay down longer, but I hope there isn't any gray spots in this idea to be over looked.
Yay! Looks like the energy crises has found a way to keep its head above water and the servers can go back up. Everything is going swimmingly.
Never mind the fact that blackouts continue to be a problem, and even more energy could have been saved with these new energy cutting methods plus keeping the servers down another week.
Ah well, if I see any Japanese players on, I'll be sure to greet them warmly. Just not with a /wave, they hate that for some reason.
try a /bow
Working with no ac half lighting to go to a shelter afterwards doesnt sound great to me. But i can see the other side of the coin. Going to work would allow some sort of normal activity and allow people to take there minds off the disaster. I say take your time and dont rush the servers back up just to turn them back off.
You want to give any particular examples, or you just posting to be insulting? And the -entire- game isn't built around co-op play, or they wouldn't have made a solo oriented job like BST. Frankly, I hate dealing with people 90% of the time, because of people's 'childish behavior'. If I ever seem hateful towards others in game, just think of this. Been on since 2002, on three servers, with at least 30+ dyna LS's. And I STILL DON'T have Windy OR Jeuno wins! Some fkin idiot ruins the run towards the end EVERY time. So yeah, I get sick of people easily. Ok, off topic, going back to bed. Later. ~.~
cool game! for gukumatz from japan

With all of the flaming and sympathy going on, I believe there are some things being overlooked. SE is a multi-million dollar corporation. The company I work for is also. SE is down. My company is not. My company is based in Hong Kong. While I understand that Hong Kong isn't in Japan, that certainly isn't the point. The point is that a global company that relies 100% on its servers for revenue should have backups in other countries. For most educated IT leaders, that's just 'common sense'. I think SE just realized that perhaps the costs involved with disaster recovery might be worth it, and they currently look like amateurs. They haven't updated anyone on the current status. Their main site still says it's down for maintenance. The Playonline portion of the application still tries to connect without any appropriate feedback about the earthquake. If we measured their company by the rule of nines, I wonder where they would fall this year? Is there any idea on when it's going to come back up?? They said a week and it's been longer, but I guess looking as if they have an idea of what's going on would be too much to ask?

With that said, I do feel bad about natural disasters happening. It's a horrible thing.
I am guessing you haven't read a lot of the posts on this forum. All of this has been hashed out in exhausting detail in other threads...so here is a bit of a recap for you:
They've been working on a reduced crew, as a considerable portion of there staff left the area to be wtih family or went back to their home nations. They share power with critical systems on their same grid (practically neighbors with both a hospital and a police station). Government and power company requested they consume power in their 23 story building, so they complied. It was a decision reached in roughly two hours, not a whole lot of time to take action to replicate all their data on short notice. This has been the only incident to hit Japan on this scale since before SE was even an idea, much less constructed (many say the worst since 1923). They most likely did some sort of cost analysis towards off-site replication of their 4 divisions housed in that building, but determined the cost was too disproportional to try to replicate 30+ servers running two-way data transactions data gobally to 500k+ users at any given time off site in another country, and likely elected a localized backup strategy instead.
Oh, and by the way....they already announced two days ago that servers come back online on the 25th....in roughly 8 hours. They are going to be cutting off many features throughout the building--including the building's main AC system and reducing the amount of lighting used-in order to offset the additional electrical load folr running their servers.
