As for me, I'm quitting XI, for at least a short time, to try other games - so I can see if my theory that half the jobs in an MMO don't have to be underpowered and broken is correct.
Reasons:
-Refusal to fix BST: ridiculously expensive jugs, jug-pets that are broken on release (hallo apkullu), refusing to either make charm relevant again or slash the call beast timer, refusing to rework skills that serve no purpose anymore (TAME), failing to address how unbuffed pets cut the total DPS of player+pet in on-level and especially hard encounters, failure to add more options for gear that buffs pets, refusing to make BST USABLE AND USEFUL in voidwatch, leaving BST crap tier for the entire lifespan of the game, etc etc
Failing to reinvest subscription money into the GAME I PLAY: XI should not have a skeleton crew on development. Period. If they are spending more money on XIV, which brings in nothing/next to nothing than on XI, that's wrong, period. My subscription isn't a charity donation to a company that made bad decisions - it is a FEE FOR SERVICE, service which I don't feel I am receiving. Everquest 2 has a smaller paying playerbase than XI and still receives full on expansions including BRAND NEW ZONES (not reskins or battlefields)

id quit because SE constantly nerfing certain jobs, overly buffing others. not bringing cool new stuff to the game. no interesting storylines like they had been known for before. the general laziness of SEs staff when it comes to development. no truly defining fight or moment or boss or enemy or anything since cop. it just really feels like SE doesnt care about the players, now the new nerf for war and the empys ive put time in are getting gimped too? giving us power and taking it away is such a terrible thing to do. why not give more power and make useful stuff? they cant do that, there are other games out there that will do this for their players.

How about just quit and save everyone the trouble of your crying bitching and complaining so the rest of the player base can actually get on these forums and stop seeing all the "I'm quitting and here's why" threads. For the small amount of people that actually use this forum compared to the total number of subscribers I'm sure its a minimal percentage. Your not going to make SE change anything with constant bashing of the dev team. Blame whoever you guys want to blame so you all can sleep better at night. It still will not change the fact that SE is in control of the game. They will move the game in THEIR direction not yours. You pay to play their game. It is not our game. They own the rights to the game, the servers we play on, and ALL the content on those servers. you basically rent a virtual world when you pay every month.
When this forum was first introduced there were TONS of people that posted lots of ideas. Some of those ideas were actually put into play. Others were straight up stupid. Instead of all these "I'm quitting" threads and "The dev team doesn't know what they are doing" threads, how about making a "Whats good about FFXI" thread and get people to actually give positive feedback, instead of all this bashing of the dev team. You guys make all these posts about let the replies be constructive, but sit there and bash the dev team? Bashing is constructive? How?
There is more then one way to inform the dev team about disagreeing with decisions they make. Bashing isn't the answer. Instead of just rage posting on here you guys should learn to sit back and take a couple days and make a logical post with good statements on how to improve the game. But no everyone wants to just say the devs don't listen to us. Well guess what, its up to the forum team to feed over the information they seem fit to send over. Try making a non-rage post with good solid facts and positive ideas with non bashing of the dev team and maybe you will have a better chance of getting feedback. -

They don't currently ask why people leave, or even notice for all I know. I think most people don't cancel. Furthermore, people DO make some very constructive posts here, but it seems you just perceive this as "bashing the development team." Wrong. The amount of threads that say "ZOMG TANAKA AND THE DEV TEAM SUX WTF" are minimal at best. I see a ton of "I don't like that you did *this* and here is why." That's the ENTIRE point of the thread. People have been asking for change for a very long time. When these boards were first introduced, player feedback was valued and acted upon. Doesn't seem that way anymore--something has changed (I wonder what THAT could be...). Now change is not happening, now people are leaving.
So therefore, if they intend on quitting, think of this as an exit interview. Believe it or not, its a common business practice to ASK your customers, or for employers to ask quitting employees, why they are leaving. If the feedback is good, or indfferent like, "Oh I don't have time to play anymore," so be it. But if they're leaving as a result of being unhappy due to poor decisions, then they're going to have to hear that too.
