Yeah, people used to sub /DRG so they could use the Wyvern earring and shield for an extra 5% (think it was 5) haste... Although.... Judging by the price of Wyvern earrings, I guess people are still doing that lol..

Crafting used to be profitable.
There used to be these places that were LEVEL CAPPED. Yea theres still a few, but back in the day I felt the need to level alot of jobs to 50 just so I could get in a pt for CoP mission whatever.
Storylines used to be good! Ok wotg has a great story, but getting it 5 missions at a time sucked!
People used to power level! /shout PL 50k/hr <do you need it?>
Only DRK used to be able to cap red curry.
I got alchemy to 100 and spent all the time getting the guild points done. Yay I can make Crimson/Blood gear now! 2-3m for HQ WOOT! Now, lol 300k-500k, though... the synth mats are pretty damn cheap now too, so it can still be a nice profit. Many a wasted hour farming bats for dragon blood (was like 150k each), when you can get a stack now for like 20k. However, I'm lucky to sell 1 piece of HQ in a week anymore... you'd think people would still want the fast pants, oh well...
-Exp gained from monsters was capped at 200, including chains.
-Multi hit weapon skills used to be absurdly overpowered. For example, lets say the first stike return is 10 TP on your multi hit weapon skill. Well back in the day it would also give 10 TP on top of the base for each additional hit landed. So let's say that was a five fold weapon skill, you would essentially get 50 TP back. If a SAM was using Penta thrust they could nearly spam it non stop, it was insane.
-Rangers didn't have an axe skill.
-Rangers could attack from anywhere and deal the same damage, there was no sweet spots. Ranger was hit by the hardest nerf on a job in XI history as well.
-People used to Ballista.
-SA and TA had to be stacked before Assassin was added.
-We used to have to count shadows.
-CoP was only completed by skilled players.
-Soloing wasn't viable after level 10.
-You had a new xp camp every few levels or so, since there was no level sync.
-The amount of XP needed to get from 1-75 was double what it is now.
-The economy had insane inflation due to RMT's. IE: NQ Hauberks for 12-15 mil.
-You needed to spend countless hours farming, NM hunting, crafting, BCNM's in order to have gil to level.
-You could attack->disengage->engage in order to increase your attack speed.
-There wasn't a bar you had to drain down when fishing, you only had to press confirm and there was no fishing music.
-People actually rode Airships.
