It's pretty much those jobs that are most wanted, Monk Hundred Fists are all the shouts. If you have none of those jobs, pray you have LS members who actually willing to help you or hope you get lucky for random shout party. The other alternative is just level monk to 95 and get a decent hand to hand to 300s which should be easy if you do it since last Thursday.
And the fosilized bone is rather hard to farm as well from IT mobs to lvl 95 - you can't expect to duo zerg like abyssea. Welcome to the dark ages of FFXI again, from now one everything would be "BARANCE"d so that hamster wheel type of activities will be the norm.
Sorry, but I didn't actually ask what you did it on whenever you did it. I inquired as to groups that are intending to do the fight in the near future who are willing to try the fight with different set ups, as I am looking to partake in such a group.
Unless you're actually painfully shy and that was your attempt at a friendly invite for me to join you and your group at a re-run of the fight which somehow backfired on you and, I'm sorry to say, came across as you being a little rude to me, may I suggest you also learn to read? :)
I guess I'll see if I get lucky. By the time I level something else to the standard to survive the fight I'm worried everyone else will have done it!
The bone is the one item I haven't been able to get yet, proving to be a bit of a pain. (Also, so glad I'm not the only person who like to exclaim "BARANCE!")
Even some of the worst gimps on my server have beaten the fight now. It's one thing if you never got to attempt because you aren't invited despite it being easy enough to win with whatever semi random jobs. It's entirely another to claim it's impossible to beat when people so renowned at being gimp that nearly all pickups now refuse to let them in misc "endgame" events have beaten it.
JADERATTLESNAKE beat the fight and there's a youtube tribute to how shitty and retarded he is. You could outdamage his lv 99 characters with lv 60 or even possibly level 30 character in a fight. He thinks utsesumi stacks with itself so you can charge up bonus shadows.
That's what I want, that chance to attempt the level cap that everyone wants to do. Just getting a little frustrated that I can't get a crack at it where I've only got a couple of jobs levelled so far (THF and RNG 95, play time is still less than a fortnight). Seems wrong to need such a specific set-up to complete a quest that everyone essentially has to do to progress further!
So I just wanted to pop on the board to say if anyone sees me hanging around Jeuno and wants to give me a hand (getting the bone first lol) having a go at the fight even thought I'm not a BST then any tells will be more than appreciated! Trying to find new combinations of jobs and set-ups to take these quests on is all part of the fun right? (Let's have a nice sense of community spirit and help each other out too, huh? Like I said, I'm still fairly new).
Also where I'm not that familier with the game and the community, I don't really care about the forum politics or who's arguing with who to be honest. All just noise going over my head!
I never said the damage limit from the tail was a bad idea, i said making him run away was dumb.
I actually solo'd the items with almost no problems. The fang and stones drop like rice pattys in D.Wardi off of monkeys in the far north of the map. I fought two monkeys and one crab and those dropped no problem. Then I saddled up and ran out to R. Pass entering from the glacier end. I grabbed page 6 from the book, reraise and regain and went to town on the bats and then the eye mobs. Got the bone third monster into my page and was all done. Granted that was better luck then what I had the previous farms because there is almost no one farming items any more.
As for the actual fight I did do different set-ups most were shout parties. They did not want a thf so I went as a whm 91. I did all the buffs and even stone skin cures. Problem I noticed out of all three times was hate control because as much cures as I was giving to our main man in two of the three attempts could not keep hate & the taru came full board on me. Now I was not spamming cures because he was a pld; he could throw some on him self to regain hate or what ever it is plds do for hate control. (I don't know I am not a pld player.)
Now I am still looking for a party to get this fight done and over with and even working on my pup while searching. I am not bitching or crying because the fight is hard. Crap I wanted a challenge. XD I like it the way it is but I just wished that people would be more open to the fact that even throw together parties that don't want to listen to people with plans is going to end in disaster.
Yes I did read to look over the old CoP fights, yes I did read over where others are having troubles as well, and heck yes I read over people who had won for the ones struggling to shut up and grow some. I well understand that but here is something else for those people to think of. What about the people who don't have a linkshell any more due to people who tried this fight and quit because they didn't like the fight? They are kinda in a bit of a fix sense their friends that did stay and did win the fight and won't help them out. What about returning players who came back after hearing the game got a challenge for the last level cap but their linkshells are long gone and friends long sense moved to 14?
Now this ain't to be rude or to even be taken that way but how many on here said they would be willing to turn around and help other people out on their server and not actually do it now because they thought it was a total waste or time or too difficult to turn around to help others? I am just curious about this...
Dunno why everyone is crazy about having MNKs to hundred fists with. Most people should know by now that it actually gimps your damage if you're doing it right :/
Any particular reason you don't just go THF? Fast attacking 1handers are great. Can't find anyone going with that setup? Make your own.
Er what, Hundred fists sets you to the delay cap.
Although I guess not benefitting from outside haste is a detriment if you don't realize that.
In our case, we just SV'd minueted the mnks and the sole dualwielder (me) got marches.
think he's talking about the DoT factor I guess....punching away at base delay versus gearing for TP gain and spamming weaponskills.
Well yea, you'd actually need to make a new set for HF being up, but I doubt I've seen many mnks actually do that.
EDIT: I actually went back to confirm, and it seems HF does set you to the delay cap, the old figure of ~75% haste or w/e was because martial arts wasn't being factored (it's straight delay reduction). Mnk didn't seem to get another tier post 82, so it doesn't seem to completely hurt them without Dnc in pt at minimum (potentially SV too actually) if they aren't using anymore MA gear. There is some fractional difference between the 2 going by cream/failure's testing.
We just won with: WHM SAM MNK BLM BLM BST
We used two tails right from the start, and blms nuked. Fight took 3 minutes, 22 seconds.
Damage I dealt as BLM99/RDM49 was:
Blizzaja 1778
Blizzard V 1628
Thunder V 1661
Firaja 1616
Blizzard IV 1072
Aeroja 1540
Recycle spells. Went incredibly smooth, so if you can find 2 BLMs with their 2hrs, and can get 2 tails, I'd highly recommend this route.
Good luck!
Indeed it seems like it is not possible to get them after finishing the quest.
Whether or not this is intended, would be nice to have confirmed.
The items for it can be quite rare.
Specifically the Bone was very elusive to me, more so with TH ironically than without, lol. Tried the Puks for a time, and then hours of killing the tigers at Kuftal. I do hope I will not need more of them, lol. >.<
This thread is still going on lol. If you haven't beaten this by now you should just quit.
As GreatGuardian mentioned somewhere earlier, it is precisely because MNKx3+/SMN does not require you to do it right (whatever it might refer to) in order to win this fight that makes it so easy and popular to recommend to players about whose skill we can't speculate.
Most people also don't have the stuff necessary to get to the point where 100 fists declines to uselessness (Yes, "most people" have low end gear and dont know how to play their job)Quote:
Most people should know by now that it actually gimps your damage if you're doing it right
Well, we have gotten our entire linkshell through the limit break with the mnk x3 , SMN + 2 leech strategy. Gone 6 times so far. Set or broke a record every time, except the time we brought a war. Idiot proof is right, and when you have a bunch of people who expect their linkshell leaders to help, I prefer easy.
I can!
Statistically, skill is likely to be "below-average" with the closest outliers being "unrelentingly awful", "good enough...maybe", and "I think he or she has a level 60 weapon equipped." I'm not sure how the average is calculated such that the majority can be "below average", but it sounds right to me!
Given that, I can definitely see the benefit of a totally idiot-proof strategy.
It was already determined that Reit was working with an outdated definition of Hundred Fists' effect. There is no possible way for Monk's 2hr to work against them. In the worst case scenario, it provides 0 benefit. This only happens when you are hitting the delay reduction cap from gear and outside buffs, and you are unable to swap out Haste gear due to a lack of better non-Haste alternatives. Since this doesn't happen, Hundred Fists is always a benefit to the player if they bother to change their TP set while it's up.
To those of you crying about not having 20/20 jobs, empyreans weapons, etc. etc., you can kiss my shiny gallant ass.
Paladin is my ONLY job over 90. And BLU is my only other job over 75. (No gear, procs only)
5/5 +2 Creed. NO EMPYREAN WEAPON. Honorbound and Siegneur shield. Pickup group, one weakness item.
No linkshell.
Do you know how often PLD gets to do anything? "Wahhhh! They don't want my job!" Shut the hell up. Suck it up, put your own damn group together and quit your bitching. Its time you stopped following like a damn dog and put your own runs together.
I thought the whole ordeal was hellish and unnecessary. It may be ideally suited to people who have busy Linkshells and an arsenal of fully leveled jobs at your disposal BUT that is not the *entire* player base.
I can imagine that this quest will do the horrible misdeed of putting all the players who don't play extensively, or during US/JP popular hours into an unenviable spot of having to seek a full party in a game full of players that are level 99 and not interested in doing the fight over and over
Okay finally done with it. Now to help others. Went in 91whm, 4 95 blms, and 95 bst (hippo pet) and owned him. We used two tails (only had two) but a third would of kept one blm from dirt napping. whm buffed group prior to entering & tossed reraise on just in case. Entered bst sic'd pet on taru as Blms 2hour nuked his booty. After first nuke went off we used a tail then waited 31 seconds. By then he was at 45-35% hp and we tossed the 2nd tail and continued to nuke. Healer did devotion to lowest mp blm so they could keep nuking. @ 5% tail wore and we lost one blm as whm/blm stunned and others nuked the last 5%. Everyone including the dead blm (had reraise on) got the victory. We killed him in about 3 minutes. Except for the occasional cure and that one stun whm probably wasn't needed from the looks of things.
It was a fun fight though I still got to say. Only 3blms, bst, and whm had empy gear on, other blm was in teal set. After thinking about it the fight wasn't hard at all just needing a plan that everyone listens and goes with from the get go. Can't wait to do this again for others. :)
I expect, eventually, the easiest way to get it done will be to level mnk as there will always be parties looking for more mnks.
I can not see why your sam won't be invited to do this fight if you have a rdm or pld come join you on the fight. That is my thought though sense last time I do recall sam can deal some major damage and with a spammed stuns and tails going you should be able to wrestle him down. Just a thought though.
Won this fight today. Gonna swallow my pride here and admit I was wrong. While it was challenging, it was not excessively difficult. All my failures came from banging my head against the wall and trying gimmicky zerg tactics (multiple MNK with Alexander and multiple BST tactics). One of the things about the multiple MNK tactic is that it's not gonna work if one or more of your Monks just microwaved MNK to 95 in Abyssea over a few days and has low H2H skill or bad gear or no Asuran Fists.
Winning party was PLD THF THF WHM BLM MNK. I was the BLM. Everyone seemed to have so-so gear. We had 3 Olde Rarab Tails but only used 2. I think we fought normally for a while. I tossed some backup cures when the PLD got critical, but mostly stuck to throwing low tier nukes (Stone, Stone II, Fire, Fire II) which did around 90 damage each and some stuns. Subbed RDM for Refresh and Convert, though by the time I needed the MP from Convert, it was right after Reraising so it wasn't gonna do me any good.
I think the MNK used Hundred Fists around 80%. PLD might've used Invincible around this time too, I forget. I know that he did use it at some point. The taru used Hundred Fists a little later (maybe 50%) and we used the first Rarab Tail. When this happened, I used Manfont, ran to the center of the arena, and just went nuts with Comet and some high tier nukes (I think I just cycled through the -ja nukes, not really paying attention). That took off a substantial amount of his MP. After tail wore off, I had built up a massive amount of hate so he walked over and made short work of me.
No big deal, he was down to about 5% at this point. Someone used the 2nd tail and I reraised. I tried to finish him off with one more big nuke, but panicked a little when the game said "Not enough MP." Luckily our quick thinking WHM saw what was happening and gave me Devotion for some quick MP which was just enough to finish the bastard off with Aero V.
Fun, exhilarating experience. I find it appalling that some people scoff and say "the fight is easy, you just suck". It's not easy. Easy is a quest BC like the WOTG fight "Bonds of Mythril" in which you can take 3 people and win without breaking a sweat. This is difficult, but not unwinnable.
I still think there is a major problem with making something that's gonna require a balanced 6-man party, when a month or more down the road most people have done this and it's gonna be harder to do with pickup groups. A solo version, like they did with avatar prime fights, would be nice. Also might be nice to make the Rarab Tails sellable on auction house.
While I don't argue your logic, honestly has no one ever heard of the term "pay it forward"? This is a Multiplayer game after all.
-See the big thing about making a solo version of this fight, is the same argument you are giving about the team fight. Only specific jobs will be able to solo it and that just defeats the purpose. Is a WHM suppose to be able to solo the fight? If a WHM can solo it, any job will be able to solo it, and easily too. Sort of defeats the purpose of having an ultimate limit break, doesn't it?
Or they could make it scale with party size or what job but that would take money away from FF14.

So, you're part of the problem, "Pink set = no," so basically "Level 99 should only be allowed for those with end game linkshells that whore out gear for people." Yep, this game really is doomed.
Empyrean armor +1 seals are all questable. I spammed the silly description matching quest to finish my Est. body and it took a very long time and I had enough BLU seals to finish 3 Mavi bodies in the interim, but getting the Empyrean AF +1 gear is only a matter of time.Quote:
As opposed to what since in SEs brilliancy they made most high level gear R/EX that requires you either already have good gear to solo to obtain it, or multiple people top help.
Stop making excuses for why you still use Aurore or whatever.
Oh I agree with the principle of "pay it forward" and often do, but I'm just one guy.
You make a decent point about a solo version, but let's not forget Beastmaster. The job was specifically introduced for people who prefer to solo. Now granted a new BST will have to get outside help for limit breaks 1, 2, and possibly farming testimonies for 5, but there he would need only one helper and not 5.
Bst wasn't introduced for people who liked to solo. SE did such a good job of completely fucking up bst in the first nerf that bst has never recovered since.
For those who dont know Killer effects used to give atk acc crit rate and haste which of course affects bst alot more.
It didn't help that SE considered (and still considers?) the ideal party/exp fights to be against waves of DC with the occasional Em. Nor did the jug pets cutting into exp help. nor did charmed mobs cutting into exp if you got one high enough level to actually do something. Now that I think of it we have GOV now so it took them nearly 10 years to actually make thier misguided assumptions about thier own playerbase halfway accurate?(I wouldn't know since i've never been in a bookburn)
I did it with 5 too, (3 of which were mules) all 95, no tails and without PD. The point was never that it was an impossible fight..it's generally accepted it wsn't that bad for people with good gear. People are complaining cause it was difficult for the majority of players with no af3/no emps etc etc.Quote:
