Is there an easy way to check how much gil you have in your inventory? I've looked online for an answer but I can't seem to find the answer.

You should be able to find your Current Gil displayed in your Equipment menu/screen.

Yeah, it's a bit odd, but you can only see it in the equipment screen, or when you're in a shop or at the auction house. At least, officially. >.>
