Recently got this game, and started playing. I love it so far, but windowed mode looks...well unappealing. I heard of a program called Windower, but before doing ANYTHING with it, I wanted to ask here about the legality of it. I don't want to get banned, and all I want is to make my game look nice, and less pixelly. I can run it fine on my computer, and I have a 20" screen.

I am not sure that it gives any substantial increase in graphical quality over what you can obtain using the FFXI config utility:

It is ban-worthy to use programs that interact with FFXI in any way. However, from the same link that Shirai posted:

May simply need to adjust your foreground/background resolutions. At the very least, they should be the same settings, but to improve quality you want to set the background (3D) higher than your foreground (actual display resolution), preferably 2x. Any higher may bog some older systems down and kill the frame rate bbecause of all the extra oversampling.
