I just wanted to say thanks for all the hard work you guys put in. I find myself logging onto these forums less and less because of the constant flow of complaining, whining, trolling, and overall bad attitudes of a good chunk of the people on here. I am sure what you guys are doing is, for the most part, a thankless job. People complain when they don't get updates and then they do when the game is updated. People ask questions and then complain when they get answered in a way they don't like. You guys get asked to read the same threads over and over and over again because people don't take the time to look for the previous 10 threads dealing with the same topic. I just wanted to say thanks to all you guys who deal with it everyday. There are some of us to let you all know that there are still some of us out here who appreciate what you do and, even if we don't like the answers we get, will continue to show you guys the respect you deserve. Thanks again.

I kind of wish Bayohne spent a bit more time here than in the xiv forums, out of all the mods he seems like the one that deals with the sarcasm and generally all around sour moods the best.
What if it slipped a day? You'd want my head!
"What is a Bayohne? A miserable little pile of secrets!"
His responses always crack me up.
I extend my thanks to the devs as well because god knows they have to deal with a lot of insanity.

Hey guys, what's goin' on in this thread? lol
But seriously, thanks for the kind words. We're a pretty tight-knit team here on the Community...Team. Don't forget, it's not just the Community Team working hard, but also the Development & Operations Teams that specifically set aside time in their busy day to try and address your questions/concerns/comments. We appreciate you guys keeping the forums active with your questions and discussions (maybe not so much the trolling), and as long as you guys are here, we'll keep striving to bridge the gap between players and the devs.

I understand your concern and I'm sure in the eyes of a lot of fellow players I am viewed as those complaining and whining. However I hope everyone realizes when these forums were established it has become an official portal for communication so players to inquire issues and concerns as well as share ideas with the developers. They should be ready to accept both positive and negative feedback as that is what you get as a result of open communication.
The day that the relic and mythic adjustments thread got a response in March I was so excited that someone is listening and something will be done. However 3 months have passed. From the time of announcement to 5/9/2011 you can imagine adjustments should not take this long if it is just simple damage output, but it did not happen.
Lets talk about the facts here-
The atma listing update was addressed before 5/9 and got proper status announcements when it was not completed by 5/9. i'm happy with that update, but it does not alleviate my concern on what was done as far as relation to relic and mythic adjustments? A buff to aegis and burtgang with no further explanation on other plans or status on what is left.
Many argue that "it's still being worked on", however have we been even told that? no.
Many also argue "its simply by fact it is not priority", well have we been told that? no and if so, when can we expect implementation?
Recently a fellow poster responded to a thread answered by a developer requesting to give attention to his thread which they did answer. I did the same thing, what did I get? not the same common courtesy.
So like Jack, I want to give community reps and development team members the same respect however after constant ignoring of inquiries how can you expect a smile out of the customer? At this point I have no disrespect, but surely my respect can be much greater if inquiries are give proper responses in a customer service courteous manner.
By the way, wowzers on 2 responses in one thread.

Back in the olden days the best we could hope for information-wise about FFXI was "The person in charge of that isn't here today", "We'll take that back to Japan with us", "It's working as intended", "We cannot answer questions about that", or if we were really, really lucky, we would get a really vague answer that didn't really answer the question. (Was anyone else around back when Steam Cleaner wouldn't pop, and Raise III was driven up to 4-5 million gil a scroll because Kirin was the main source for it? "We changed the pop conditions", indeed.) The amount of communication that we have now has floored the people I know who quit back in the CoP/ToAU days when it was like pulling teeth to find out anything about something or something about anything.
I consider the Community Team to be saints, because I would have yelled at everyone to get off of the forums and told the Devs to shut down the game because everyone is obviously incredibly unhappy with it if I had to deal with a quarter of the whining that they have to read. (Except with a lot of swearing peppered in. And I mean a lot. Possibly in exotic, foreign languages to be able to get more variety.)
My point is, be happy with what we have here because the Community Team is actually listening. Sure, things could be better, but things were a lot worse not too long ago and they got better because the people in charge decided to listen. If they hear nothing but "everything sucks and you will never make it any better ever", there is no reason to keep the the lines of communication open.
Also, if I ever meet the Community Team, I will give them cookies.

Ah "working as intended" I remember that. The new found responsiveness of the devs etc is great, even if the answer is no or that's too complicated to do. I'm very glad that we can get answers more often then the occasional interview or Vana'fest Q&A (speaking of, what happened to Vana'fest this year?). Kudos to the community team.

No saying complaining is bad. Constrictive complaining is great! The key word being constructive. I just get tired of logging on here and seeing the same complaints from the same people every time I log in. I can't even imagine having a job where I would have to look at these repeat threads of the same old same old every day. I would go insane! Just thought it would be nice to have a thread to let the team know that some of us here still don't think the world revolves around what we think and that we appreciate all the hard work they all put in. That is all.

I like the new direction of the game and i like how there is specifically someone that reports stuff to the dev team and that talk to the playerbase from the inside. It's a bit late maybe, but not too late, it's something really hard to handle, not everyone would have done it, especially for a game that most people consider old and dead. Companies usually don't open these type of communication channels even for new games...
So i think the ComTeam deserves a lot of galkan sausages +2! How lucky!

You can only blame the community reps for it. The same complaints will stay around until they actually reply to it.
Like Summoner spirits. I've e-mailed bug support, I've e-mailed suggestions, I've called GMs, I've posted in the bug forum, I've posted in the general forum, I've asked people going to vana-fests to bring up the issue, etc. Ignorance at all fronts.
How the hell can you let half a job remain useless for 10 years and not even comment on it? Even Pankration gets more attention than spirits. And yet all we really request is ONE response from the community reps or developers. ONE in TEN years.
What bothers me the most, is that I have a larger chance at getting a communty rep to reply to "what did you have for lunch?" thread, than a spirits post.

What exactly do you expect? People really love this game and as such want it to be everything it can be, most don't complain to be asshats they just want to be playing this game for a long time to come and would like to see it improve. I think most of us agree the staff on here do an awesome job and they try to accomodate us and our (sometimes stupid) questions lol It's really cool to know square now genuinly care what we want and our ideas are passed along to people that implement stuff, don't take that a lot of people seem to complain as a slight against the staff here or Square themselves...they just care about the game. I play quite a few MMOs off and on and XI is unique, there is nothing like it on the market now. If WoW shut down tomorow I'd be miffed but I would ultimately just go play Rift or one of the other clones, if XI closed I would be mortified as it's really unreplaceable.
Idk about you but I much prefer the forum as it is right now (minus the retarded trolls) than either being dead and no new posts or everyone saying how awesome everything is (fanbois suck), the forums were added for a reason and that wasn't it.
These forums right now are the most important ones assosciated with FFXI, in terms of your ideas meaning a damn when you post them to the cool staff that moderate them. I hope everyone keeps in mind just how good things are right now in terms of communication, just a few years ago the current situation would of been laughed at as never happening.
Also one of you guys should have a moogle avatar with shades or an eye patch :P

Cut the Devs a bit of slack. With the cap increase and Abyssea all semblance of game balance and the basic framework on which to build content has been destroyed. They have to try to add new content/tweak existing content, but everytime they do someone either figures out a way to solo it (by some method Devs were never able to consider) or else it could turn into another AV nightmare (does anyone else remember all the flack they got in the news for the time it took to beat him? SE still gets grief from parents groups for that). Coupled with limitations on the various platforms that need to be accomodated and all the breaks in various jobs they are trying to find a way to fix and they've got a pretty full plate. I know I wouldn't want to have to deal with everything on their whiteboard.

If i'm paying them for a service, yes.
You aren't paying them to buff Summoner. You are paying for the ability to play the game that Square Enix and Hiroshimi Tanaka designed. What changes when you stop paying? You are no longer able to play the game. If you feel that the service that accompanies a product is subpar, that's your own business. But your payment is for the product.
Now let me be clear, of course the proceeds from FFXI go towards funding the development, community, and GM teams (And they are awesome!). However, they are absolutely not obligated to provide you anything other than the service you are paying for: FFXI. Community reps aren't required to talk. Developers aren't required to update anything. And GMs are not required to say anything more than "That's working as intended" if your call is anything short of "Help, I'm stuck inside a wall".
Now, is that the case right now? Obviously not. The Community reps are a lot of fun, and post a whole lot on these forums. It's obvious that there are very strict limitations on what they can/can't talk about, which likely affect where they choose to post. But quite a few times, No answer is better than a "No" answer.
Can you imagine what would happen if Camate were to walk into one of Mellowy's threads and say "I'm sorry, but the Development team thinks buffing Spirits is flabbergastingly preposterous and would move Summoner into an even more hyper-ambiguous position in the job field and thus will not be making any adjustments to the Spirit system." ?

I actually don't give a shit about summoner or relic/mythic weapons
You are paying for the ability to play the game that Square Enix and Hiroshimi Tanaka designed.
I am also paying for bug fixes and periodic content updates.
What changes when you stop paying? You are no longer able to play the game. If you feel that the service that accompanies a product is subpar, that's your own business. But your payment is for the product.

I'm not saying they should change everything about the game so that it's in a form I enjoy. But I do expect them to fix shit that's broken/imbalanced.
Community reps aren't required to talk. Developers aren't required to update anything. And GMs are not required to say anything more than "That's working as intended" if your call is anything short of "Help, I'm stuck inside a wall".
I disagree, but this is more a matter of opinion.

Technically, no you're not. You're paying to play. you can say "i'm paying them so i can jump up and down and sing a song of lollipops" and it just as true as that quote.
You literally pay for nothing outside of the right to play. If they decided to take your money and blow it on blackjack and hookers they could technically do it.
GG is only trying to explain that the rampant whiny ungrateful behavior on these forums is a bit extreme, because frankly it could be Fu*ktons worse like it was back in the olden days of getting 1-2 interviews a year with vague answers that were completely worthless.
The team is doing a wonderful job answering threads. It could be faster but I'm also pretty sure its not laziness, they probably have a few channels/things to go through to get a response back from the Dev team.
What happens when the game stops updating and bugs never get fixed? People stop paying.
While this is true, The only point GG is trying to make is they aren't obligated to do anything for you. They could stop fixing everything and let the game die right now and they have no obligation to fix the "bugs". They do it because we still play and I'd like to think they care about FFXI, they don't do it because we have to.
I'm not saying they should change everything about the game so that it's in a form I enjoy. But I do expect them to fix shit that's broken/imbalanced.
We all expect bug fixes, So does GreatGuardian, He's just saying they don't have too. They really do not have too. It would kill the game for the most, sure, he's not arguing anything more than "If they wanted to they could drop everything and delete the servers, they owe us nothing"
He's only trying to correct you when you said "I pay for bug fixes", when in fact, you only pay to play the game, If you think you're paying for updates/fixes, you're wrong. Nothing more nothing less. We all want updates, but we realize if they decided they're closing the servers tomorrow, they could.
Oh sure I don't have any beef with the community team, it's more the development team I think needs to be more responsive.
back in 2003~ As Septimus said the best answers we ever got were "We'll take it back to japan with us" and of course we never heard back from it. This forum is such a drastically large step up from what we used to have... They answer as many threads as I'm sure they're allowed. They don't ignore/slack off. If they don't respond to the 20th thread about "x" they probably don't have an answer yet.
I don't think they just ring' a call over to the Dev team and ask them "Hey, Thread about SMNs, whats the plan?". I'm sure it goes through a few channels and sometimes takes a while to get back.
I could be wrong.
I can't speculate on how an individual user will respond to a particular answer, no.
I can for you :D! It would be the same as every time someone gets a no to their thread. Raging butthurt, crying, name calling, angry responses to the Rep, etc.
It would be hell and back and people would whine about how much this game sucks/etc. This isn't a shot in the dark either, its more of an educated guess based on previous experiences.

But seriously, despite the fact that you're wrong as has been pointed out, (And just fyi, only assholes think that if they're paying someone they can therefore be an ass to them) if you feel you're paying SE so the community team will answer any and all of your questions, why don't you stop paying? Seems pretty stupid on your part to continue paying a company when they aren't rendering what you think is a service they promised(they didn't) to provide.

I'm not sure, what do you imagine would happen? As I see it, the worst thing would be that I'd get angry, and I promise you that being ignored for 10 years have already made me reach hate cap. (I'd have to punch a developer to lower their hate levels, in accordance to FFXI rules).
It is more likely that my faith in SE would increase, from rock bottom that is. Currently I'm forced to be paranoid that everyone I talk to are anti-SMN and do not send my information to SE, but just deletes it. Considering SMN is usually not even on any of the new good items, but on all junk items, I'd almost dare say someone is officially trolling the job. Someone who lost their mother to a Summoner once, I'd assume.
