View Full Version : Re-ordering the character select list

Many, many moons ago, I started this game with the full intention of being a Tarutaru WHM. One main job change and 69 levels later, I decided "God I am so sick of seeing a Tarutaru and Maat can burn in Hell." So I made a Hume. I loves my Hume. But knowing that I can be fickle sometimes, and I have an incredible ability to be guilty over deleting data (It's like murder!), I kept my Tarutaru on hand.

My Tarutaru is still a RDM69. My Hume, on the other hand, has four jobs 75+. Because the Tarutaru was my first character, she is first on the list. I've mostly gotten into the habit of selecting the second character in my character select, but then I move onto the other issue.

I made a second account for the entire purpose that mailing, switching characters, picking up, and switching back to mule was too tedious, and I had the ability to dual box with a second computer. Around maybe a year after creating that account, I decided "I am so jealous of all these people with WHM mules that just follow them around." So I made an Elvaan WHM. The problem there, though, is that she is third on the character select screen, after my MNK-like gear mule Spharai and my WAR-like gear mule Bravura.

As it stands, I have to remember to go down two characters on one account, and three on the other.

My proposal is that a method to allow us to rearrange our character lists be created.

Now I know what you're thinking:

"Your character is linked to a specific content ID, sorted by date created."

I admit I am not a programmer, let alone anyone who understands the minute details of the game and its code, but I would think that there must be some kind of algorithm that could be created to let us rearrange that. I could be wrong though.

Thank you for listening to another one of my minor requests. =)

Found out that Hume > Taru too late I take it?

I managed to do this somehow at one point in time. After a couple of hurricanes rolled through Louisiana and SE (very respectfully) cancelled the effected ID's for that month, when I reactivated them they popped back in a new order. There may have also been a POL reinstall involved, I forget. Either way, I've tried and been unable to duplicate it...but I think it's possible.

It should be more possible though, yeah.

I completely agree. I'd love to put my characters in order of importance, and would love the option to change that at any time.

Actually I'm starting to love the Elvaan a little. I'd probably be interested in a Mithra if it wasn't for the fact that the tail movement would distract me from being able to play at all. No, not the butt. The tail. Just wanted to make that clear. D=

Unfortunately, I've decided I have too much invested into my Hume right now to change a race again. But that was what the topic of my last suggestion thread was about.

I would be a mithra too, if it wasn't the whole sexual questioning part of being a man. I'm too macho to be a girl.

Also, it wouldn't be the tail that would get my attention, if you know what I mean.

I could use this feature too, although I'm so used to selecting my second character that it would probably mess me up for like a week.

Yes! I want this so badly. This is causing me a ton of trouble right now preventing me from...well, basically playing the game. w

I want to remake my character, yet linkshell members want to burn my remaining seals because you can't transfer them, and they're pretty much running on their own time. It's a real pain.

Maybe I should be like, "Screw you guys; go pay the million AH price for Utsusemi: Ni!" wwww

Wanted this for a while, especially having some inactive mules after Sack/Satchel implementation.

I just want them to change the background and up the resolution of the character select screen.

guys and gals please try to remember why they put the like feature in place, they look closer at the ones with more likes as possible suggestions, so I suggest you hit like on the Original Post to get it noticed if you want this feature added, I did it

hitting "like" won't do anything. All it shows is how many people agree on the same thing. That is all.

Anyone who thinks that "liking" a post here would help create change is strongly mistaken. Because Square Enix isn't a company that listens to their customers, they only listen to what their story writers say.

I can't attest to the comment about how much "liking" a post will make SE look at it better, but I have to disagree on the second part. I think SE's been better over the last few months about listening to their players. Sure, they may have never listened in the past, but I think they've learned.

My opinion, though.

SE isn't who looks at the posts, mods, devs and players look at the posts

mods, devs and players look at the posts

Barring "players" from the list, mods and devs are official representatives of SE and any word they say is a reflection on the company itself, and can be used against them if need be.

Therefore, SE reads the posts. Unless you can find me a section that says "any posts made by official developers and board moderators are not representative of SE."

It might be more realistic (with technical limitations in mind) to have the client remember the most previous character that has been used, though, I can easily imagine even this being a troublesome task. :\

It's not that I'm against being able to re-order them either, just thinking some thoughts 'out-loud' and I'm sure some players would indeed like this as I know several of them have many a character they use at different times.
