I was thinking, and even posted some ideas about this in an old thread awhile back. The idea of refining the graphics and gameplay and releasing a sequel to Final Fantasy XI, calling it Final Fantasy XI-2. This wouldn't be the first MMO to make a sequel, and the game is slowly becoming outdated, so why not a new title?
IDEA 1: GRAPHICS UPDATE
(6/14/2011, by KorPoni)
Monsters will have graphics based on name, not just species. No more copy/pasted then resized, but completely remodelled.
(6/14/2011, by KorPoni)
Different armor of the same type will have different graphics, even if it's just a slight color difference. Would like to see more drastic changes than that, but won't complain either way.
(6/14/2011, by KorPoni)
The obvious suping up of current graphics, with more shadow detail and environmental variations. Just cosmetic, not affecting gameplay.
IDEA 2: USER INTERFACE/MENUS
(6/15/2011, by Karbuncle)
If they gave us a revamped FFXI, I'd like improved Graphis, a Much better UI (Displaying Acc, R.acc, R.atk, Eva, Critical hit Rate, critical hit damage, Magic Accuracy, Magic Attack, and total haste somewhere.)
-I'm guessing they mean in the menu, where they display Equipment, Attack, Defense, and Elements, they should include Acc, R.acc, R.atk, Eva, Critical hit Rate, critical hit damage, Magic Accuracy, Magic Attack, and total haste. I'd say Acc, R.acc, R.atk, Eva, Magic Accuracy, Magic Attack, and Delay personally.

Status effects are viewable by the whole party in the party list. Not spread out like 14, but maybe right behind the character's name and hp/mp bar.
IDEA 3: GAMEPLAY
(6/27/2011, by KorPoni)
Fire, Blizzard, Thunder, Aero, Stone, and Water are all the same level and strength, along with higher tiers of these spells. Maybe all spells are the same tier matching what is now tiers of Stone, Stonega, and Stoneja spells. Such as Blm would learn Stone, Water, Blizzard, Aero, Fire, and Thunder at level 1, and Stone II, Water II, Blizzard II, Aero II, Fire II, and Thunder II at level 26.
==========
Post what you'd like to see in a revamped Final Fantasy XI. If it looks like a good idea, I'll add it to OP and give you the credit.

They're morphing 14 into xi-2

Nah, they're wanting to. Alot of it is going to be similar to xi, but it's still going to function differently than XI.

What does XI have that you fear XIV is going to leave out?

Considering this is a concept thread, you're not being on subject bumbeen.

Delete my posts then. Oh wait.
So far though it's looking like XIV fulfills the concepts you've posted? I don't know about the monsters one, but it definitely has for the other two. Looks like XIV is the game you're looking for them.

I've played XIV, and I quit because the levelling system sucks, the monster camps suck, and the environment is one big board of copy/paste. So no, XIV is not the game I'm looking for.
Oh, and since you're obviously trolling, I'll just ignore anything else you post. You're welcome to post more on here to keep it toward the top of the list though.

They are changing the leveling system somehow. I can't remember exactly what though.

They are adding in jobs that have linear abilities to the classes. Kind of a specialization system. It won't bring me back though because it'll all still be single zones with 1-50 levelling and alot of repeated environments. It'd be like if Jugner Forest, La Theine Plateau, and both Ronfaurs were one big zone, and it all looked exactly like Ronfaur, including the same hill 40 times, the same tree pattern 40 times, and the same river break 40 times. Oh, and if each city was halved in size and turned into the exact same thing: the same building 10 times, and maybe another building 10 times, then some narrow pathways to make it take longer to get from place to place.
By tree pattern I mean the exact same spacing and placement between trees.
Edit: The person in charge has made mention the zones need a huge overhaul, but as far as the schedule goes, it's not even in the schedule yet.

This thread is to share ideas of what you would like to see in a newly updated version of Final Fantasy XI, not whether it would be a good idea/liked, or not.

So you don't want any real discussion, You just want people who will agree with you and pat you on the back and in turn give out their ideas to be patted on the back?
You may as just wrote "DONT TROLL GUYS IM SUPER SERIAL"
What fun is a topic if you cannot discuss the pros and cons of such a topic? When making a thread you have to accept the good bad and ugly of making a thread. Including constructive Criticism, Praise, and not so constructive Criticism.
Its what makes a thread, a thread! Being able to discuss any and all ideas presented!
Limiting people on their ability to discuss something and sentences like the above are going to make this thread die because no one will take you or it seriously.

As to not stray to far from the 'topic'.

Outside of that. nada

I completely agree with the idea. And I'll agree if anyone thinks an idea someone posts on here would be a bad idea I don't see why they shouldn't use that go ahead.
I also removed the anti-troll post from OP. It won't stop people who want to troll from trolling, but rather encourage them anyways.

Personally I'd wish they'd port XI to the PSVita.

Yeah, splitting development resources and focus yet more would be the best thing to do at this point...

They made a wise choice to replace the team that was working on FFXIV. Personally, I don't like that they're turning it into another FFXI, as every Final Fantasy may have a similar theme, but they've always been their own games. But the game was butchered at release, so it is in need of a ground-up like reinventing. An upgraded version of FFXI I would like to see, with more up-to-date graphics and gameplay. It'd probably bring everyone back who got tired of the same old FFXI from over the years. But there'd hafta be various changes made so it'd appeal to everyone, not just graphics, but various other things like redone equipment list, menus, UI, ability list, storylines, etc.
Before I post this, what does everyone think about a whole new spell list, completely revamping which jobs learn the spells, what lvls, and even what some spells do? Just something to change the pace of things so it feels more like a new game, but still FFXI (hence FFXI-2).
Ex. would be WHM learns these spells in this order: Cure, Cura, Cure II, Curaga, Cure III, Cura II, Curaga II, Cure IV, Cura III, Cure IV, Curaga III, Cure V, Cure VI, Cura IV. Cure would be the same, Cura would be self-target with aoe party and slightly more potent than Cure, and Curaga would be any party member target and aoe party effect and be slightly more effective than Cure and Cura. Of course MP cost would be dropped to match the effectiveness of the spell for Cura and Curaga.
Another example would be RDM would learn En-status spells inbetween the two tiers of En-Element spells. Not ridiculous en-status like Enpetra, but realistic ones like Enblind, Enparalyze, Ensilence, Enslow, EnDrain (unless DRK learns it instead).
Don't be shy to elaborate on what changes would make FFXI-2 a more unique and balanced experience from FFXI.
