Aspect ratio not working?

So Im on day two of setting up this game -.- I still cant get my game to display in 1680x1050. No matter what I try I still get ugly black lines either side of the screen and compressed image.

Ive changed the options in the Config in and out of the game and manually changed the background resolution all to 1680x1050 but it still doesnt work. Not to mention the HUD still seems to be huge.

Does anyone have any help on how to do this? setting this up so far has been frustrating to say the least :/



Oh and I also have an issue where my XBOX 360 gamepad works in the POL but not in game, if anyone knows anything about that please help me! D:

Windower config overwrites your registry/polcfg. Check there.

I think there's a seperate config utility for POL and FFXI. You probably have your gamepad set up in one but not the other. Also if you're using you 360 controller on windows your trigger buttons won;t work, you'll have to download a hacked driver. Google XBCD.

sounds like you're only setting one resolution....what is your foreground resolution set at--that's your main resolution that the game actually gets displayed at. Set both to the same values to start with. Background is what the 3d elements are actually rendered at before being sent to the display resolution. This allows you to force a full screen anti-aliasing by setting background to 2x the display resolution if you have the horsepower to support it. Make things look really nice if your system can handle it.

Yeah I got the aspect ratio sorted out fine now its just the controller thats the last hurdle. It works fine in the test and in the POL windows but as soon as it hits the game it doesnt work. I mean every button not just the triggers. Will XBCD fix that too? Ive seen posts on other forums with people who have the same problem but there werent any replies.

Edit: I installed XBCD and it didnt do anything D: It didnt even get the triggers working.

SOLVED: !!!! Turns out it was Steam being a douche all along. It auto loads the US config and Im in the UK so I needed to search in the folders for the EU pad config and boom it worked :D
