There's not really much great gear that's buyable. Mostly some Evasion pieces like Antares Harness, Scouter's Rope, Slither Gloves, etc.
THFs gear for various situations. Do you mean best gear for Evasion? Or for dealing damage? Or a mixed solo/survival set? WS set? Which WS?
In general, good non-AF items to DD in are Aurore gear, Dusk gear, Swift Belt, Rapparee Harness, Tiercel Necklace, Bravo's Subligar (or the new ones, whatever they are called), Walahra Turban. Try to maximize Haste and Accuracy when you can. Once you cap your skills, you'll find Accuracy to be less needed, so you'll want gear with Critical Hit Rate and Double/Triple Attack, possibly Store TP.

These are the ones I use most often:
General DD/tank (http://www.ffxiah.com/item-sets/205523)
General SA (http://www.ffxiah.com/item-sets/218050)
General WS (http://www.ffxiah.com/item-sets/218049)
I use the same ones for soloing, occasionally swapping to evasion gear, depending on what I'm soloing.

At first glance I wondered why you were stacking 32% haste, until I noticed that that's not Twilight belt. I can't find any info about how much Dual wield that gives. Any idea?

Wiki says 5%, I've always geared under that assumption.

If you dont have the money for +1 items. Get the normal ones that works.
A few tips i can give you. Dont be scared of AF3 +1 by thief the NMs for Head, legs are very easy. You can quest the items for Hands and body.
If you have 40 + stones. You can quest all your THF AF3 seals. Just take it easy and keep working slowly at least 90 mins of seal quest per day, in 2 weeks you will be surprised for almost finish your sets.
Try get a abbysea LS for get the good thief atmas. I did told you already good atmas and i did analisis for you the two best Deal damaging atma combos
Try get as fast posible triplus dagger and rapidus sax. Both are easy to get. For now blau/rapidus can work until you can get the triplus and twlight knife
A quick note i want add. If you see in a few weeks you cant get help for Triplus dagger, rapidus, or your progress for gain shinryu access is slow.
Just start work in two attack kila + 2. You never will be weak with two this babies. a combo kila +2 / kila +2. Can keep up with all Dagger combos, if you get at least 1 fire day per day. In 2 weeks you can finish 1 ^^
Kila + 2
DMG 43 Delay 190
STR + 9 attack + 20

Body seals are a fairly moderate to easy solo as well. I did shaula for mine.
Hand seals are also soloable via that Bluffalo NM in [A] Uleguerand Range. Although, just starting out, he may be frustrating because he has lots of HP and defense. Definitely doable though. Ususlly though, people will see you soloing it and ask if they can help kill it if they are waiting. Speeds things up nicely (just don't sit there and make them wait and most groups will be quite helpful)
Ideally you'd wanna grab a WHM and a BLM to low man them. Less risk if you are new to tanking/soloing and more yellow procs.

I fail to see how Bullwhip is more 'ideal' than twilight belt.

Yeah twlight belt is better. But i wanted give another option, to the new guy. Bullwhip can be obtaned very easy, the ovni can be low manned and the point is have 7% haste But i will update now the belt ^^
I agree with you Nebo. the gargole NM can be soloed he is easy and the buffalo can be solo/duo too. I hope the OP read all our replies

well what i really meant was what gear is best for someone who solos the game and cant get the gear from nms unless there soloable.

Soloing in abyssea is very easy, but it's a catch 22. In order to solo easily in Abyssea, you need to team up to kill zone bosses and other NMs to get the atmas and abyssites to use more atmas, etc.
Many of the quests are soloable though so you can get some of the AF+1 solo at least. Just might take some time.

Been so long since I had no atmas, but I can't remember just how easy any dom ops are to solo if you have no atmas at all. (which he won't if when he says "Solos the game" he means 100% never joins a party"). Will even take some time to get 200k cruor solo with no atmas already.
Also, Rewdawg, have you even finished CoP or Zilart missions? If not, then recommending raja's ring, Brutal Earring and Suppanomimi Earring won't help you much.
Edit: oh and it was CrAZYVIC that recommended BD... Rewdawg is the OP.

Well if all he plans on doing is "soloing the game" then he will not be able to do solo almost any NM in abyssea w/o atmas(which you NEED help w/ for the more potent ones) and w/o some atmas/abyssite the nms that he plans to solo will become incredibly difficult.
What he needs to do is Join a party is Heroes zones and exp/get Dominion points from there. He'll end up getting a good amount of Dominion Points by just doing the Nms(if he joins a /sh or friends help) in the Heroes zones(Raja/Rani/ 3 Mega bosses etc)
to the OP: And what exactly do you mean by "solos the game"
One can really get anything solo if desired.
If you want to get the good atmas solo, you can do a couple of things that I've seen work:
Farm gil by yourself until you have a reasonable amount to offer a group thats killing the NM that drops your atma (This also applies to actual NM drops).
Hang out around the pop areas for the NMs that give the atmas you need and see if you can't find a group nice enough to let you have a slot just for the atma.
After a few good atmas and a bit of experience with THF soloing, you shouldn't have any problems with soloing the seals you need for AF3+1 gear.
If you are intent on soloing NM's on THF, just starting out , I'd say finish one or two evasion Kila +2. They will make things more relaxed for you in the beginning.
