Hello everyone. I played FFXI for about 6yrs or so and finally cancelled in August of 2010. I am debating if i should reactivate but am confused on these addons. I have all of them up to the 3 scenarios crystalline prophecy, d'Etat, Ascension, so i would just need the battle areas or w/e they call them. What confuses me is that SE did not release a physical game discs for these (i played on XBox mostly) why is that? Also on the main FFXI screen where the "play" button is, all i see is Heroes of Abyssea and it says it's $10. Is that $10 for just Heroes or is that including all Abyssea content, or only this one is available currently with the rest coming out in the future?

So confused  lol

Thanks in advance!

All of the mini-expansions are downloaded with your standard version updates and then activated when you buy the IDs for them. Heroes of Abyssea is the last of the three Abyssea expansions and is $10 on its own, but you can only access Abyssea content if you have Visions of Abyssea (the first of the 3 addons) so if you were to pick up just one of them I would get that one for sure.

However, I would highly recommend picking up all 3 because the majority of the game's EXP content and all of the AF3 content takes place within Abyssea. They are $10 each, so it's $30 for the set. I'm not entirely sure on the details for buying the previous two Abyssea expansions now (since I just bought them when they were on the front page), but I believe it's under Purchasing Optional Content or Additional Content or something like that. I'm sure someone who has had more recent experience reactivating can give you better information on that.

thanks for the quick reply GreatGuardian. I was searching the web just now also and i only see that they released the Abyssea Collection for PC only and it's only available via digital download/purchase. i also read that all registration codes since classic ffxi are all universal? is that true? if it is true, i might buy the abyssea collection through the gamestop website which sale for $20 digital download.

also debating if i should start fresh with a new account. the only drawback is i will lose 6+yrs of content advancement >.<

A lot of the more recent codes are universal (in terms of expansions) and will just unlock all of the content up to the most recent expansion/addon that comes with the set. All codes have always been universal in terms of Console/PC/etc as far as I know, they're just codes. If you have an account, you can use it on both the PC and the Xbox interchangeably.

I'd wait for confirmation before acting on this since I'm not 100% sure, but I think you can just pick up the Abyssea collection, use the code on your existing account, and get access to all of the content that you don't already have in the Abyssea collection.

awsome. well i have two people now that say the codes are universal. you and an ingame ffxi friend i messeged through POL messenger just now. if indeed it is true they are universal, then i wasted a lot of money throughout the yrs. i have about 4 collectors hard copies on xbox360 and another 3 collectors on pc..... /faceplant! lol

yeh... just need the collection code to unlock all the aby content. I nabbed the $5 deal a while back to unlock the ASA add-on I never got. All I did was goin into the Content ID section and add the Ultimate Collection code in the slot for ASA and it unlocked it. I'd imagine it would do the same with abyssea too, but you may have to manually apply the code to each add-on in an existing install, unless you were planning to reinstall from the new collection media you download.
