View Full Version : Next tier SATA ~ "Killer strike"

I mentioned this idea somewhere else I forget, but the basic premises is the next tier of a Thief's SATA series of attacks(sneak and trick). Basically, either a "death strike" or an extremely critical strike(think SATA x2...possibly x3), with appropriate recast timer 10-15min(debatable, 5-10min ok also).
Death is already a part of the game whether we're talking Doom, Twilght scythe, or Odin's 2 hour. If this is too much a "game breaking concept" then change it to an increase damage to SATA. Being a lvl 90-99 job ability for thieves, we wont have to worry about sub jobs getting this ability.

This is not useful.
I'd rather have an ability that forces a critical hit on your next WS with a 20 second recast (basically like how SA from /THF works only from any angle) That would actually be useful.

I think something like a Vital or Killer strike might have some use or fun to use at least. It could be an ability, working from any angle, that guarantees a quadruple strike with the chance to vitally wound a mob resulting in a K.O.

It won't be able to K.O. an NM (No, shut up. It won't)
Epeen damage on NMs every 15 minutes is useless.
Being able to K.O. normal mobs every 15 minutes is even more useless.
RNGs have a merit ability called Flashy Shot that causes the next attack to ignore level difference. Nobody ever merits it because a big epeen WS every 15 minutes is worthless and the merits are better spend on things that are actually useful.
I'd rather not have the devs waste a THF update on useless crap like this and give us something that will actually make a difference instead.

Merit it to a 5 or 3 minute ability with t3 merits? And no I don't think it would KO an nm the same way twilight wouldn't proc on an nm. But it would still do quadruple damage.

Wait, now you want THF to have an insta-kill with a 3 minute cooloff? That would be completely ridiculous.
The problem I have with this is that if they gave THF this it might make them reluctant to give THF additional updates that are actually useful. e.g. "we already gave THF a quaduple damage attack with possibility of KO, we don't want them to be too powerful so we better not give them any more DD abilities"
It could give the devs the perception that THF is now a strong job when all they've really done is give them a toy that has limited usefulness.

agrees with atomic. this isn't what thf needs. a new "thf attack" type skill wouldn't be bad but it would need to be on par with SA and TA, just maybe only usable in front of the mob to help with tanking, but even then we wouldn't need it.
for our dd boost i still think they just need to make SA hit for only 50% dmg from the front of the mob and add 5% dmg to the next SA that lands behind the mob (50% increase total cap), and make TA increase hate and evasion by 5% (up to 25% total) when not landed behind a pt member. these would help thf in dmg and tanking ability. just my opinion though.

I never said it was 100% instant kill. I did say 100% quadruple attack that is usable from any angle making it stack with SA or TA.

I agree, and yet most other THFs still merit Assassin's Charge ;p

Yes, I never meant to say 100%death but a chance of mortal wounds(triple or quad damage or whatever) and chance of death for "normal" mobs. Notorious monsters are another subject and realistically would fall under the same rules just as they don't with Odin's move.
The timer I proposed was definitely long and could be reworked depending which option would be chosen. If increase damage over SATA them yes small recast. If death, a 10 min window would decent-good chance to kill a mob(even-IT). If players prefer a mob modest "spread" then as mob difficulty raises the chance if death lowers by a factor of X.
Or rework the critical rules for multi-hit strikes to include multi-critical chance for each additional strike?.
