Back when you first get your Traverser Stones and whenever you try to get more, Joacchim mentions that spending prolonged periods inside Abyssea could have detrimental effects on you, but no such effect is really present.

People want to live in Abyssea and I am beginning to feel that the threatened "detrimental effects of prolonged exposure" need to be implemented to Abyssea to get people out of those areas and back into the rest of the world.

I personally would like to see more consequences to spending time in Abyssea. Maybe something like for every hour beyond the first two you spend inside Abyssea, you receive a penalty to your character (A reduction in stats, possible reversal of Atma effects) that will last until you leave Abyssea for a period of time equal to the amount of time you were there.

By that same token, he also states that the purpose of the timer on the stones will boot you out before any harmful effects begin to take place, so kinda kills the whole point of your argument.

Keep in mind that the ingame lore is likely based on the Abyssea people crossing over into Vana'diel and suffering devivication penalties as well as eventual forcing in the realm, whereas Vana'diel people somehow gain double or more their natural strength when they cross over. Your character has exceeded all levels of strength, awakened and slain the Gods themselves, crossed time and space itself as easily as walking across the street, and all hints point towards being specially favored by the Goddess Altana herself in alot of feats...

I really don't think there's any fear or risk they'd put in besides the fact that running out of stones causes your character's body to be unable to cope with dimensional crossover for a single Vana'diel day.

The detrimental effects are the gimping of skills from getting exp so quickly :P

I thought the effects were that you start to hate the real world. I'm sure that in the next expansion, we'll get the choice to be evil and destroy it!

If you had paid attention, the detrimental effect of staying too long is being stuck in the wrong dimension forever.

If you had paid attention, the detrimental effect of staying too long is being stuck in the wrong dimension forever.

Wouldn't that be funny if it were the case for PCs.

Maw Cutscene: [NPC approaches after PC tries to exit.] "Congratulations! You have mastered yet another adventuring profession! You sure are something, saving our decaying world from destruction, and all... So... um... we don't have Mog Houses here. And... uh. So... bring any cards?"

PC: "What?"

NPC: "At least you are a hero here!"

PC: /helpdesk

GM: "What is the nature of your problem, fair adventurer?"

PC: "I am stuck in Abyssea."

GM: "Exploring all our wonderful content, I see. How long have you been in Abyssea - La Thiene?"

PC: "About 16 hours? I was in a worm party and got so many time extensions I just AFK'd in the corner and woke up and joined a new party."

GM: "16 hours? You have remained in Abyssea far too long. Joachim had warned that if someone is not careful they can lose the ability to return home."

PC: "What? This is total BS!"

GM: "Abyssea is working as intended. Is there anything else I can help you with?"

PC: /item "Scroll of Instant Warp" <me>

PC uses a Scroll of Instant Warp.
The Scroll of Instant Warp fails to activate.

perhaps they could make it where after a certain amount of time in abyssea has passed all recast timers and casting timers get lengthened? would definitely deter ppl from staying there all day

Maybe if you stay too long upon exiting, you'd be stricken with a powerful curse. (-MHP, -movement speed and mega slow)

Except the NPCs say that based on the fact they got weaker, but the longer we stay in abyssea the stronger we get (aka lights)

Therefor, staying too long in abyssea should slowly ascend your character to god mode. Which could basically be considered the brew.

stay in abyssea for 40 hours you start to see the random abyssea bug, that removes all your cruor buffs atma and visitant status and reapplies them instantly. gets really annoying when it happens every 2-3 seconds.

saying that i have had this problem meny times, just log out > log in > get cruor buffs > examine a new chest for 1-2 mins and solves problem

Traverser Stone system is actually implemented to protect the players' eyes.

True story from a Customer Support member, and I think they're friends with Joachim and the rest of the NPCs who are saying things like it's bad for you to be there for a long time (while you can virtually stay in there forever if you can obtain time extensions fast enough).

Just a little tidbit. \รถ/
