Do you want it? Then you must show your support for it otherwise they won't even consider it. if this game is to live then they must do this, otherwise FF11 shall fade out as FF14 fades in.
Listen, abyssea was made for level 80-90. When we are all level 99, we will be super powerful and there won't be anything fun for us to fear. If it has to end, let it end with an expansion made for level 99 that opens up the rest of the ff11 world to us.
What is left to explore in the world of ff11?
1. south of Windurst and Kazham is the great southern continent home of the Mithra empire ruled by their Mithra queen. It was here that the avatar Shiva had an ancient empire before she was banished to the north, here that giant wild beasts roam the lands. To the east of the southern continent is Naja's home island country under influence from the near-east empire.
2. North east of San d'Oria and the ice zones is the great Gigas empire. It was from this empire the Gigas migrated to the Middle-lands to aid the Shadowlord in his war. Over at the Gigas home is a settlement of Vikings who live and make war with the Gigas giants.
3. The far east is just a journey east from the near-east empire. The far east is in chaos from continuing war with the near-east and monsters attacking their lands. It was or is the resting place of the avatar Phoenix as well has the home of the Ninja, Samurai, and Monk. I would imagine it looks like ancient Japan or China a lot.
4. The far west continent, far west of San d'Oria and Bastok nations across the sea are native Indian like people. Very little is known about these people.
What jobs are left to add to the game?
1. Mystic Knight.
2. Time Mage or Sage.
3. Geomancer.
4. Shaman.
5. Necromancer.
6. Viking or Berserker.
7. Mime.
8. Chemist or Engineer.
9. Whatever else you can think of.
Eh, i'd probably buy, and come back for an expansion, but really, i don't see it happening this late in the game's life. It's clear that ffxi is not SE's main focus right now, and i can't see them putting the resources into a full expansion.
Nothx on those jobs though. Bacon mage or gtfo, really.

Someone's forgetting the ancient Galka civilization in Altepa. Also, we have Mime. We call it Blue Mage.

Several years too late.
You need a viable Square-Enix to keep this game alive, and with what's been happening in their other MMO, there's no real guarantee that exists at this point.

I would *love* to see this. It has been mentioned many times in CoP and Aht Urghan, I'm very interested in seeing Tenzen's homeland!

After the FAILTASTIC XIV they would be wise to try to keep us happy and playing. Most of the people who tried it that I know are now back on FFXI. Another expansion would be a good refresher to the game imo and I am not talking about some crappy add-on for a single piece of gear that I found to be a waste of money. Level cap debates aside abyssea was a great addition to the game and gave us a whole new dynamic to play with. I would personally like to see something else creative like they pulled out of the hat with Abyssea with new areas not just the same map disguised as a new place.
As far as story line and zones go yes please let us explore ancestral the homelands of galka and mithra.

1. Gimme single shot skillchainable sword nukes and the ability runic and I'll love it.
2. Just no. To many overlapping mage abilities, we don't need a second scholar job.
3. Scholars abilities are about as close as we'll get to that.
4. Shaman. Eh, I dunno.
5. Last time they considered it we wound up with pup. Let it go.
6. Call it barbarian and make it NOT war 2.0 and I could tolerate it.
7. Mime...How do you make that work in an MMO without being either useless or overpowered?
8. I don't get the attraction. It's just not that special and there aren't enough buffs that haven't already been thought of already to build a job around using potions. Besides if you really want to use 30k/stack items to heal your tank try beastmaster.
As far as expansions, we should at the very least have these zones for those parts of the world added even if there is no major plot to it, just to explore them and see more of the lore involved and at least 1 last large full scale expansion before the condemn us to endless $10 mini expansions would make me happy.

While I doubt they'll go for new jobs anytime soon, and it wouldn't even really be needed imo, I would love to see them explore the mentioned, but never shown lands and continents. There's so much story, so much history and land to be explored still, those the OP mentioned and the far east, maybe even a new land. I'm very sure there'll be another expansion that will finally make Abyssea what it already is, AF3 farming ground and nothing more. And I hope, pray to the dev team, to not make it another knockoff of existing zones. Wings of the Goddess and the Abyssea expansions already demonstrated a lack of effort that I found kinda unsettling, although they made up for it by new ideas, battle and gameplay wise.
I don't know how much effort they wanna put into it, with FFXIV out now, but FFXI still has a solid playerbase and they have to do something after abyssea. As I said, I just hope this old game is still worth the effort to them, to not make more copies of existing zones, but explore some of the already mentioned but yet unavailable areas of Vana'diel. I still think FFXI has a lot to offer, and I hope they take advantage of that to keep their user number high, instead of slacking off and losing members to either FFXIV or, which sadly is more likely, other MMOs (including RL).

i would personally love to take a trip to the mithran homeland. should totally have an expansion there. and they could have a little tarutaru outpost! Maybe Shantotto will be involved, she took a vacation there!
but seriously, i think boxed expansions are done. i think they going to keep doing the add-on thing. The first 3 sucked if you consider what they should have been (although i liked ASA, i have a shantotto thing), the abyssea ones are pretty awesome, so i think SE could realistically do maybe an expansion in 3 parts, with new areas, mobs, etc (all the goodies a new expansion would bring). And at least this way, we wouldn't have to wait 3 years for the end of the expansion we bought at the onset (hey you Wings of the Goddess).

I don't see any need for more jobs, I don't see any obvious 'gap' in the range of jobs now that would give a new job any reason to exist, there's already considerable overlap in all 'class' roles among the jobs we have.
An expansion though certainly would be nice, or I'd be happy to see content that's back in the 'real' world of Vana'diel and not yet another time/space dimension like Abyssea.
Yes, know the concept behind Abyssea but I don't feel it relates much at all.

I want to see Tavanazian Safehold in the past, why is there no Tavanazian safehold [S]? ( on the topic of expansion)
for a real expansion you have to drop the PS2. The real question for FFXI is if SE is going to drop FFXI or drop the PS2 so the game can expand?
I don't see the need for new jobs. Allthough new areas/storyline would be nice.
I think new jobs wouldn't hurt, just because now it is so easy and quick to get one to 90, that people will max out pretty quick and get bored. New expansions will help, but certainly new jobs would as well.

I think we need a job which wields a big club that smacks everyone still stuck on timemage. FF11 is FF11 is FF11. It's not FF1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,12,13 or 14, however much sepiroth clones may exist.

Time mage is more reasonable than necromancer. At least a time mage would be useful, just look at Scholar. Necromancer would just be a BST clone. Instead of charming a mob, you'd just bring one back from the dead. Why do so many idiots want a job that's already in the game?

because if you could control dead players instead of raising them it would be lol, horrible but still lol
new jobs would be nice but not needed there are so many jobs i still want to play around with, a new expansion with new area's and an epic story like CoP yes please but in all honesty for any of this to hppen SE needs to grow a pair and end PS2 support (and sort out the failbox 360 issues) i know a lot of ppl still play on ps2 but really its time to move on and stop holding this game back

A new expansion on the scale of ToAU would be phenomenal, but I'm not holding my breath.
New jobs? No.
We have plenty now and I'd rather them work on balancing those.

I am all for new jobs/new content, but mostly a new expansion would be awesome. Like so many before this post have said; it would breathe new life into the game and give us all a chance to explore the unknown. I too think SE took the easy way out with WoG and Abys by using the same zones/maps. At any rate, the one thing that would help SE as a company would be to expand the game, eliminate PS2 support, and advertise for Titan's sake. Advertise this game and the players will come, I have never understood their thinking about having only a cult following. IMO ffxi has so much to offer and is by far the best MMO out there, that is why I have been around forever it seems....and I will continue to be as long as they pump energy and life into this game.

It only makes sense to have a brand new expansion pact on the scale of TOAH. They just started this forum after all this time, they made a twitter account for FFXI responses, and for the first time ever they have been doing bi weekly update responses to the most asked questions. Also not to mention the maintences they have been doing more often now.
So yeah it would make sense, why start support on a 8+ year old game only to just leave it where it stands. FFXIV was a flop and I think they will give us something else. Abyssea was coming out before FFXIV, then FFXIV failed, and then all this FFXI support and community addons showed up. Its not just for show. I think aby was there just to shut us up and then to heard us over like sheep to FFXIV, and then when we didnt do that, whats left for SE to do?
At this point they only have 2 options: Continue FFXI and add to it in a reasonable way, or just end it. They expected us to move to FFXIV, that didnt happen and they came back to show support to the FFXI players. So I doubt it will be the end of FFXI.

Final Fantasy XI player base is getting smaller & smaller. Square Enix knows this and its why were getting server merges. Square Enix know bringing out a new expation pack would entail them to do another 3-4 years of updating missions for it. Not just that but also expations only really do is hold the public that already on the game. What Square Enix need to do is redo Final Fantasy XI to make it fresh to the public.
This would mean redoing the game in graphics, adding new areas, new jobs, Getting rid of Abyssea EXP game breaking easyness and adding a hole new story that doesnt relate to the beastmen what so ever.
Why replay the game for its Story? Specially a MMORPG.
Square Enix knows FFXI is nearing its end because of the lack of people registering for the game. The boxed game is 5 bucks now which is sad. Sooner or later its gonna cost them more to keep the game running for whoever is online then what there getting back in return. The Ps2 is getting old and them redoing the dat files for space so they can keep the game running is only to ensure the remaining public the game is fine.
This game needs PS3 graphics.

Destroy Abyssea to keep the game alive. Yes, yes.. partying in Abyssea rocks, we all know this. But allowing people to level jobs that are only level 30 and letting them leech up to 90, especially to get Maat's Cap, has ruined the game. Those of us that levelled our jobs in 6-man parties gained skill as players. People levelling low level jobs in Abyssea gain no skill at all. And thus, to save the game, you don't need more jobs or expansions. We need to destroy Abyssea or perhaps raise the level of entry into an Abyssea zone. Maybe ~60 or so?

I don't understand why people keep asking for unrealistic things, like a graphics overhaul. It's simply not gonna happen with the state the game is in, plus PS2 limitations. Or asking for the Mime job... really?
I also don't understand why people keep saying that Abyssea needs to be over... it IS over. Seriously, Storyline is done, everything is all wrapped up. There will be new content for 95/99, they've even already said they were making new content.
Seriously, argh.

I would love to see more *new* content to play in this game, but I doubt it will happen. Apparently a lot of JP players still use PS2, and that about nearly ends the discussion right there.
Despite our declining player population, I don't think SE will shut down its servers anytime soon, it's still a cash cow for them. Just look at Everquest.. still going.

Funny how over 50% of the FFXI players jumped over to FF14? Reason? Because Graphics & new story. Of Course FF14 is still currectly kinda shity but there working on it with a dev team 15x the size of XI. Once FF14 is good players will jump back which will be probally be this december (FF14 PS3 Release & Major Overhauls on its battlesystem). Players should keep playing XI till then but id like to see something quite BIG in the future of XI or it will be XIV instead for alot of people.
