I know the level caps are in the far far future with 99 being that top but i think SE should take one more step and allow every player to take 1 job only to level 100 with a final slew of new moves and abilities only for that level.

I know they said 99 is to go with tradition but with crafting you can go to 100 so why not atleast 1 job, make it a quest from one NPC where you choose the job you want to level up to the final rank and the NPC will not allow you another quest.

Its just an idea but would be cool that you are awarded new atleast 1 new job trait, job ability, a different 2hr ability and a new merit class even if its only 2 different merited things to choose from its awards you and your favorite job.

If I can recall no FF has ever had a level cap increase to 100.

tbh, I wouldn't want lvl 100....99 prevents those annoying deaths and petrifications due to us being at a level that's a multiple of 4 or 5 or w/e...it's really irrititating at 75 or 90 or w/e for a pissant little floating eye to petrify you because you're at the right level ; ;

There is a Level 5 Death spell?

knowing SE it'd take "too many man hours" to change the system from 2 digits to 3.

Sruon has it right. IIRC, the system SE uses for recording our levels is based on a 2-digit max system. Thus why we won't see level 100 for any job. It'd be nice, but I'd rather keep 99 as the cap for all jobs.

Even if only 1 byte was used to store it would be able to go up to 255, so I don't see why they couldn't go past 99. I think they did it the way they did to keep with the common cap of the previous Final Fantasy games, but I could be wrong.

Actually this is somewhat justified. The English client (and possibly others) have their GUI's designed a very particular way, and fitting that extra digit in everywhere would be.. a bit of a hassle, especially considering it needs to conform to the PS2 version of the game (running at a very low resolution)..

And therefore the argument is invalid

didn't SE say they weren't raising the 75 cap too?

This pretty much is why lv100 will never happen.

A rhetorical statement? That's cool and "ironic" I guess.

Display limitations would prevent 100 from properly showing up in search and many game windows.

It's also probably intentional to block lv50 abilities from being subbable.

lvl 99 is fine them eyes that use lvl 5 petraife move is annoying and at lvl 99 any ability that effect jobs of multiplier of 5 is great when it will never land when you hit cap at lvl 99.

For those that didn't know, the game does go up to 255. I remember on the Auction House, they had listings for spells like Dia V.. (/drool). I think someone used a private client to raise their level, and it caused their 255 Dark Knight text to wrap around the box, looking a bit funny.
And in a way, if we're staying at 99, I sort of hope they change L5 Petrify to L3 or L9 Petrify.. Just because it's sad to have such a staple become useless just because we hit a cap.

Sounds awesome. Would add more personal customization to the game

Nah. 99 is the classic FF cap. I like it.

They could always bust out some classic Chrono Trigger, make the 1 job you Level100 display the level as "Star star" instead of 100 xD

While i'm not keen on the level 100 thing...picking one job to master above all others appeals to me. I know quite a few people who have 15,16 or more jobs max leveled and are dressed in perle, aurore and teal for just about all of em. If I could take mnk to "master class" status it would be a way to differentiate it from the 90 pretend mnks. All SE would have to do is allow each player to choose 1 job to take to "master status" and open up new merits to only that status. It might even be able to give plds new life by giving them some awesome abilities but restrict it to dedicated plds.
