View Full Version : Perhaps it's time to shorten the delay between Spell Casts
I would like the opinion of the Pup community on this subject.
I believe it is time we see some sort of reduction in delay between spell casts.
I think it a bit unusual that the time between spell casts does not change for us since level 1. I personally think that there should be a slight progression as we gain levels that reduces this time.
Do you think this kind of adjustment will overpower of spell casting matons? I would personally like to see this time halved by the time we reach level 99 with some sort of progression for certain levels like a trait. I personally don't think this would be OP because individual spell still have their respective recast timers, this would allow for a more fluid and conscious Automaton play style.
Anyways, i would like to hear reasons for and against this idea. And what do you think would be a suitable reduction in casting delay?

It isnt entirely correct to say it doesn't change for level 1.
Level 1 pet has a cast time of: 37 seconds
Level 10 we can get storm walker with a cast time of: 27 seconds
level 50/60 we get the whm/blm heads with cast times of: 25/27 seconds respectfully.
Add in mana booster and your at -2/4/6/8 seconds with ice maneuvers.
A nuke every 19 seconds for the blm helm is roughly half the initial 37 seconds.
That being said:
I completely agree with you that the mage needs to cast faster in some form or fashion. I don't personally care if it is just adding separate timers so it can enfeeble, heal, and cure all 2 seconds apart, then you wait the 25 seconds. Same for blm, if it could aspir, then 2 seconds later nuke, i wouldnt mind the bad ai.
Same goes for the ranged frame, a single ranged attack every 22 seconds is completly lame and should be every 5-8 seconds at 90.
Well Dfoley, i understand what you are saying that there has been some sort of progress, however you really can't include attachments into the mix as you can get and use them at level 1, So the only real change is when you use mage specified matons. At the same time i change to a level 1 job / sub pup and in effect i would get the reduced spell casting time. which by what you've said, hasn't truly changed since level 10 when you get you stormwalker body.
and I totally agree with you on the Sharpshooter frame, an increase in ranged attacks is needed aswell

It doesn't need to be a drastic change, but a little tweaking in this area couldn't hurt. A shorter spellcasting delay would also help when your automaton is wanting to cast drain and aspir, so that they can squeeze in other spells without drain/aspir hurting their ability to nuke as much.
Different timers for different spell categories is a good idea- though I have to say it could be a challenge to manage.
