I am a returning player from 2003 and was wondering where some good spots to exp are using grounds tome or field manuals. Im at lvl 32 sam/war and have been using the gusgen mines tome and it helped alot following through page 1 and 2 but now the ghouls are checking too weak to be worthwhile so it is time to move on to greener pastures. Where are some other spots that can get me more levels without having to travel a long distance to get back to the tome? If you have the knowledge I would appreciate a breakdown of good spots that i can use that will take me to level 75 :) thank you for your time.

Friendly advice, before you get to far with samurai and then realize its basically useless now pick up another job to main. Ninja, warrior, monk, white mage, blackmage, and thief would be my suggestions. Can throw bluemage and redmage in there to but they're not really needed.

In abyssea they dont have a crit based weapon skill and due to epeen's being top priority for most people, that makes them useless. Never mind that they can churn out 3-4k ws every 5 seconds, because it cant crit for 4-5k its considered too weak.

Honestly a Fudo SAM can keep up nicely with a VS monk because of how often it can ws in comparison to the monk.

Play a job you like, and ignore the haters.

Sam used to be a bandwagon job about a year ago. All those people who were on the bandwagon have moved on to new bandwagons today. A year from now they may be proclaiming their beloved jobs of today to be suck jobs too--war, mnk, and thf have been called suck jobs in the past, because they weren't rng, which is a job you only play ironically, for laughs these days.

There's nothing inherently wrong with sam. If you have fun playing it, then keep playing it. Until you get a few good atmas, and some respectable gear, your job in Abyssea is going to be standing off to the side, and out of the way anyway, at least on NMs. To my knowledge you can do that reasonably well with any job.

Use the book's Repatriation to move you to your home city. From there, outpost to Xarcabard, Valkurm or Buburimu. They all have cavernous maws close to the OPs.

That's the best way to use GoV/FoV for exp.

Yes, but for the new players who can't afford 100k/hour party leech spots they should do the next best thing and join a page burn party in Crawler's Nest or Garliage Citadel.

Bostineaux is very good in the 60s, but wherever you go be aware that after 50 it's really important to sub a job that has access to sneak/invis if you play solo. Bostineaux is amazing but it gets really awkward if you don't have a form of Sneak to get around.

Dancer is a wonderful solo sub for melee in general and Samurai in particular; getting it leveled should be an immediate priority for anyone trying to get a melee to 75 in this day and age.

I did this with my dancer. Using 5 charges novenial ring and 3 emperor band so far i got lv 1 - 64 in about 4 days playing 3 - 4 hours per day.(I was afking, chatting and wacthing movies, etc, i think i can do it better)

This is what i always wanted in FFXI, a way for lv up solo, duo max trio, without have wait for build a party or ally, and keeping capped the skills and enjoying the game.

1 - 5 -> Worms in south G. Stone eater

5 - 13 -> Wadi page 1

15 - 20 -> wadi page 3

Lv20 - 25 -> Maze of Shakhrami page 1

Lv 26 - 29 -> Maze of Shakhrami Page 2

Lv 29 - 34 -> Maze of Shakhrami page 3

LV 34 - 37 -> Gusgen mines page 4 (Here you can try another choices i liked this one because i love gusten mines, This is the more dificult part lolz lv 34 - lv 46)

lv37 - 40 -> Gusten mines page 5

lv40 - 46 -> Gusten mines page 6

lv 46 - 57 -> Crawlers' Nest page 1, usually here a lot duo - trios parties. You can ask them join and sync.

The exp in this point start be insane, when you cap the book 2320. (Get ready with a lot of food and gear for several levels because i recomend you dont zone up until you are done)

lv 57 - 61 -> Crawlers' Nest page 2. Maybe you will have a bit problems for find soldier crawlers.

LV 61 - 69 -> Crawlers' Nest page 4 in this point is where im atm. I dont know yet if i will stay until lv 73 here and then move Zeruhn Mines

lv 69 - 72 -> Crawler's nest page 5 or page 6. Wiki say the page 5 caps at lv 90. So maybe you can stay here until lv 75.

lv 75 - 80 -> At this point i think you will be invited abbysea, but if you want get lv 80 and finish your LB quest Zeruhn Mines page 3 , 4 and 5. Here usually a lot of people is playing ask them for party. The exp i was getting here, at lv 75 with other job was 39k per hour with the book exp capped and the area semi empty, not comparable abbysea, but is a lot exp.

I say level what you want. With the massive inlux of thf/mnk/nin/whm/blm/war around SE will eventually toss a nerf somewhere or create something they're not so great at if we look at the history books. If anything just know that abyssea is simply dynamis but with exp. Once you cap exp and merits (shouldn't take long) and get your +1 seals which should take a week if you organize yourself then you'll notice that abyssea can be completed in 3 months.

Just know there's also life outside of stoner zones.

*edit* not everyone in abyssea can even hit 4k. the damage mentioned is common for those with stuff like emperyean/relic/mythic and not your average user tbh and this update will allow a emperyean nq/hq sam to light and relight easily with emperyean/relic/mythic so go for it man

Don't be discouraged by the naysayers. You asked valid questions in a pleasant and courteous way. Welcome back to the game and play whichever job or jobs suits you best. Experimenting with them is the way to find out which you like and should not be based on what other people think you should do.

As has been said GoV or FoV earns you tabs which will get you back to your Home Nation, apart from that gather all the op's you can. Use Explorer Moogles when they are one of the Kupowers (something added a couple years back) to travel between cities, Mhaura and Selbina. GoV is pretty cool, moves quickly and racks up the xp. :)

One other thing I would add here is that if you are going to level a job that has multiple skill levels involved (enfeebling, enhancing, divine, dark, summoning, blue magic and ninjutsu etc), take the time out to keep those skill levels capped because you will find yourself levelling faster than you can keep up with skill levels.

Hope you are enjoying the game again, that's a long time to be gone!

It's actually pretty easy to hit 4k damage for many jobs without empyrean weapons.
